Lukyan felt cold. He was chilled to the bone and moved to warm himself, but the sound of chains made him open his eyes suddenly, shivering him. Now he was frozen not with cold, but with panic. The hard, rough metal encircled his wrists, squeezing them. Memories of when she had been in the same situation came flooding back.

-How’s the situation,” a very familiar voice stopped him from moving.

Carefully he turned his face to look under her hair to see where she was. Starting with the fact that he was lying on an uneven stone floor, chained again, the other thing he discovered was that a cave loomed above him and outside the colour white was all encompassing. For some reason unknown to him it was snowing.

His heart stopped. Before he was attacked there was not a drop of snow all around and now everything was covered in it. How many days had passed? His hands began to shake. Matias, Dante.

-Everything is fine for the moment, there is movement, but it’s all under control.

Lukyan seethed with rage at the sight of Ryan kneeling in front of the man who had once been her husband. His head was lowered and he was staring at the floor as if he was afraid to look at his former alpha. Even his voice was hesitant.

-Sylas stood up and at that moment a small girl squeezed his arm.

-Father, let’s hurry, I want to get there,” Laira’s voice was a dagger in the wolf’s chest.

-Quiet, my child, and stay still.” He pushed her away and went outside, though she followed him.

-Are you awake,” Ryan turned to him.

Lukyan looked at him menacingly from his position, barely sitting up.

-I had to keep you unconscious for three days, otherwise he would have taken advantage of you,” he said.

With those words he seemed to think he could trust him, but it only took once for Lukyan to break all expectations of a person. He growled at her, showing his fangs protruding from his gums.

-My queen, I recommend you really calm down or you may end up like him,” he nodded at the body next to him.

Lukyan recognised him, that was one of the Council and if he wasn’t mistaken he was the alpha of the iron pack. That he had killed him and still had that body indicated that he wanted to reclaim his place in the pack.

But when had he killed him and how?

His condition appeared to be almost a week old and if I did the maths it coincided with the end of his wedding. So he must have been killed in that time. He swallowed dryly, Sylas was still incarcerated at the time.

-It was you,” he narrowed his eyes.

-I had no choice, my queen. Sylas was threatening me.

-Threatening?” she roared. “What could he have done inside the dungeon?

-You have no idea what he’s capable of?

Lukyan reached up and grabbed his clothes, pulling her to him.

-Do I have to remind you who was her husband for so many years, I know what he is capable of?

-Laira’s voice echoed in the cave from behind Ryan.

Lukyan kept a serious look on his face even though he wanted both to strike the spoiled brat and weep for the betrayal of his own b***d. He saw her stand in front of him and look down on him with arrogance.

-The word whore is too short for you, mother, you abandon my father and open your legs for another alpha, you should be ashamed of yourself.

-Laira, watch your words,” Ryan asked only to receive a resounding slap in the face from him.

-I’m talking, don’t interfere, you lapdog who is good for nothing but fulfilling my father’s wishes,” Ryan didn’t answer, but his faint scent was a faint one.

Ryan didn’t respond, but his faint scent told the omega that he was upset. Ryan had been with him for many years and thought he knew him, but now after this, there was only a stranger.

-Now move, father wants us to get out of here as soon as possible, we are very close to the edge of Lucian’s pack. If the snow subsides they can track us down, there are several wolves behind us. The sooner we get to the iron pack, the better chance we have of taking power and me being queen,” the cub turned and left.

Lukyan heard Ryan sigh before he stood up and ordered someone to do something. Out of the shadows came two wolves that he recognized as two of the guards of the dead wolf next to him. He thought at first that they had betrayed him until he noticed their pupils, fully dilated to the point where the irises were no longer visible. He was confused for a few seconds until he realised that they answered to Ryan.

-Ryan, you…control them?

Ryan nodded his head in surprise.

-But I can’t give you any more details now, my queen,” he turned and smiled at her, “I promise that when the time is right I will.

As he finished saying this the two wolves grabbed him and lifted him up. As those old chains weighed so heavily on him and considering that they would delay the journey, Ryan decided to tie his hands behind his back with what looked like a rope that cut off the b***d circulation to his fingers. Lukyan understood that he thought he couldn’t convert, he hadn’t done it during the wedding, so he could try, but refrained from doing so for the moment.

-Ryan, you were the ones who poisoned Dante and Matthias,” it wasn’t a question, it was a statement.

This made him pause and she turned to him with an indecipherable face.

-Sylas stopped beside the wolf with a macabre grin, “Matias was out of the question. Thank Ryan, he was the one who worked everything out perfectly for them to be in that state.

The omega didn’t flinch, at least he didn’t show it, he hated that wolf with all his being.

-Why did you capture me?

-It’s not logical,” she moved closer to him and wrapped her fingers loosely around his neck, moving them to the centre of his chest, “I have to admit that of all the wolves I’ve had s*x with, you’re the one who really makes me o****m. If I can have you, why wouldn’t I, you were my husband, why can’t I claim you?

Lukyan was thoughtful.

-Is there an antidote,” he tried.

-Why would you want to know, those two must have died days ago,” he heard him chuckle and it hit him inwardly though he saw his hand shift and tighten its grip on a small pouch hanging from his belt. If there was one thing he had learned in their time together, it was that when he lied he touched the place where he hid something.

She looked up quickly lest he realise that he had discovered it. She had to look for an opportunity to steal it and try to escape, if there was a hope she couldn’t let her husband and son die. At least she hoped they were still alive.

Laira went inside and tugged on her father’s arm.

-Come on, what are we waiting for?

Sylas growled and pulled her away.

-Laira, behave yourself.

-Why should I, now because you’ve got that whore you’re going to leave me aside,” he shouted at her in a scuffle. She looked at Lukyan with bloodshot eyes, “What the hell do you see in him? He’s not even beautiful.

-Sylas threatened him by raising his hand.

He clenched his fists and pouted and turned around and waited for them at the entrance. Ryan approached Sylas and whispered something in his ear. The former alpha’s face transformed into an angry grimace and he turned his eyes to where his daughter stood. A low growl came from his throat.

Lukyan couldn’t hear them, but whatever it was, it wasn’t good. He was left with only the option of being dragged away by one of the guards while the other carried the body. His mind fixed on one thing, getting the antidote.
