5 Puppies For The Alpha -
Chapter 66
Edgar roughly grabbed Lukyan’s wrists and pulled them away from the nearly full container, quickly wrapping a towel around her to stop the bleeding. She had stopped tending to him for a few moments and she had practically bled to death cutting her other limb as well.
-What are you doing, my queen? Don’t you value your life?
-Is that enough?” she asked softly.
Edgar looked up from his wounds and then looked down at the vessel with a frown.
-Yes, my queen, I think we can manage,” he had told her he would need a lot of b***d, but he never imagined the wolf would open his veins to give them the necessary amount.
-That’s good,” she wobbled in the chair and one of the wolves rushed to her aid, but she shook her head, “I’m fine,” she said, “nothing could be further from the truth.
He now had six deep grooves in each arm equally distributed that hurt considerably, though he didn’t show it. And I could have sworn his face was pale, highlighted further by his hair. Seeing the container had given more b***d than he could afford so that his vision was unfocused at times and just sitting there made him dizzy. But he didn’t feel bad about that fact. If her b***d could prolong that of her husband and son and she could get another wound right then and there.
The wolf bandaged her arms tightly after healing them. They would heal quickly, but not as quickly as they should, so he had to care for them thoroughly. Lukyan leaned against the backrest and sat up when it released him only to lurch dangerously forward.
-My queen,” Edgar reached out to support him, but he took a step back and stood on his own two feet.
-I’m fine,” he panted lightly, his surroundings spinning and he felt terribly weak.
-He should at least get some rest and eat, in his condition he shouldn’t be walking.
-Edgar, sleep in this situation is a luxury I can’t afford,” he tossed his hair back, “I promise to eat something, but now there are things I have to do and supervise,” he looked towards his family, “Take care of them,” he said.
The wolf watched him go with an attempt to stay upright, but every third step was unsteady. He worried, but the omega had business to attend to and he had said so himself. Inwardly he felt sorry for him. When he was that age all he thought about was running with the pack and having fun with Kaiser, the former alpha. But he, as young as he was, had a weight that could crush her at any moment.
Lukyan stepped outside and had to hold onto the door to catch his breath. The floor was moving or it was him, he didn’t know. He felt like throwing up. His whole body was telling him to rest. He would do it later if possible.
He resumed walking, holding on to the wall to keep from falling, even the light from the windows was annoying. Falco and Bastian must have been obeying their orders so he made the walk alone, until one of his knees gave out and he fell forward.
Arms caught him before he fell and he lay for a few seconds against the body in an attempt to regain his strength. He was exhausted.
-My queen, are you all right?
-Ryan,” he murmured slowly as he held on to her arms so that he could pull away.
-My queen, your condition, you shouldn’t exert yourself so much, it’s not worth it,” his former beta, as always, was attentive to him.
-Ryan, you’ve known me for years, when I’ve sat and watched everything around me fall apart. It’s the same now, I can’t let my family perish without me doing anything.
-Is Dante that important to you? Even to put yourself in that state?
Lukyan narrowed his eyes.
-The pack is my family, not just Dante. He’s my husband and my mate, of course I care about him, but that doesn’t overshadow the rest of it.
-Do I include myself in that, my queen?
He softened his gaze. His insecurity was normal, after all they had been together for years and after he was imprisoned they had barely exchanged words.
-Of course Ryan, I was worried about you as well.
The wolf smiled slightly as he helped him up and hugged him without him being able to resist.
-I will always be by your side, my queen, even when you don’t want me to be,” he said.
Lukyan patted his back. He wasn’t used to so much contact of that kind except from his husband and some of his children, so he felt uncomfortable and rolled over to be released. Ryan was unapologetic and looked disappointed.
-My queen also came to talk to you about something, I’ve seen strange movements in the cells after Sylas escaped, we have a traitor,” Ryan said.
-Did you see who it is, did you notify Mitya,” he ran his hand over his temple. More worries.
-Yes, my queen, but he ignored me on the grounds that I don’t have the authority to be in those parts.
Lukyan frowned. Mitya was loyal to Dante, he was his twin brother. Surely he was upset with him, and that must have extended to all of his people.
-Take me there Ryan,” he said, taking a deep breath and searching for strength within himself.
The wolf nodded and helped him by holding his arm even though he refused at first. The walk was quite torturous for Lukyan. The time he had gone Dante had taken it upon himself to carry him so as not to strain his body. Just remembering it made his chest ache. Worry was eating him up inside and yet he longed for her touch. He missed the way she kissed him with or without his consent. The caresses she gave him and the way she traced his body with her fingers.
-My queen,” Ryan called after him, realizing his mind was elsewhere.
He shook his head and they walked on. It may have taken them a while, but they finally reached the entrance to the dungeons and just being there set off all of Lukyan’s alerts.
-My queen, stay behind me,” Ryan told her when he saw no guards standing guard and no Dmitri himself.
Lukyan focused his scent and searched. There were wolves inside, they were not empty.
-Ryan, inside,” he nodded.
He nodded and walked slowly with him behind. Lukyan analyzed his every step so he wouldn’t fall, he felt a little better with the air he had taken, but that didn’t take away from the fact that he was weak.
Walking down the first three steps he could see Dmitri lying in the middle of the corridor leading to the deserted cells, around him there were at least four more wolves, unconscious. The wolf’s first impulse was to run to him, seeing him like this reminded her of her husband’s condition, but she shouldn’t be reckless.
-My queen, besides them I can’t smell anyone else,” his companion reaffirmed, “I think it’s safe,” he said.
After that statement he approached the group cautiously and shook Dmitri by the shoulder.
-Rei…na,” he murmured faintly, which if it weren’t for his hearing he couldn’t have heard.
-What happened?” but before she could get an answer Ryan’s body fell at her side with his eyes closed, startling her.
And soon after a loud thud landed on the back of her head. Being so weak, she hadn’t seen it coming. She had lowered her defences for a second and that had happened. That was why he was always alert. She cursed as she felt her body being dragged before she completely lost consciousness.
