Lukyan hugged his big wolf as he made him whimper. With constant movements that could be stronger but the broad back was tense holding back. Even when he had told her he couldn’t hold back she measured her strength so as not to hurt him. Her thick arm wrapped around his waist taking care not to hurt his wound and keeping her position on the edge of the table while the other rubbed her thigh down to his buttocks, leaving her fingers fixed on the white skin.

Her scent enveloped him, her mouth devoured him, her hands marked him. He could only surrender to it. To feel wanted, loved, protected.

Dante abandoned her mouth to direct it to his neck, licking it eagerly. His teeth scraped the skin and Lukyan shivered. The omega threw his head back as he felt his body crest next to his husband. He dropped his head onto the male shoulder trying to catch his breath as the knot grew and tightened inside him. It didn’t hurt at all, it was different than before, it felt pleasurable, perfect. This time the wave of o****m assaulted him, but more faintly, moaning constantly hugging Dante.

The alpha was stroking his head with his eyes tightly closed. He thanked everything that could be prayed to for giving him back his wolf, his omega, his wife, his queen. He brushed the tousled hair back from her temple and kissed her.

-Was I my brusque,” he whispered against her skin.

He denied, still hiding his head against her shoulder. She tightened her arms, tighter around him before the wolf could hear a sob coming from her throat.

-Lukyan,” Dante tried to break away to see what was happening but his grip was firm, “Lukyan, baby, what’s wrong,” but his sobbing only increased.

His body trembling violently, and the pain in his chest spread to all of Dante’s senses and he could feel the agony of what he had been through.

-Calm down, love,” she put a hand on the back of his neck and touched over the mark enveloping him with her scent trying to soothe him, “I’m here, no one will ever do anything to you again. Cry all you want, let it all out, I’ll be here.

Dante held him against him. Taking everything from him, his pain, his worries, his pain, his anguish. Always holding him, caring for him, comforting him.

Falco entered his alpha’s office an hour later to replace him lying on the couch with one arm behind his head. His queen was sleeping soundly on top of him with only her lower garments on. The beta made a sign to leave but Dante opened his eyes and motioned for him to come in.

Falco sat looking at his queen’s bare back and the wound that lay there. He frowned before lowering his head.

-Alpha, I apologise.

-For doubting him?

-And for not protecting you when you were poisoned, it was my mistake, I deserve to be punished.

-Dante asked looking up at the ceiling, having his wolf’s chest over him, breathing steadily and hearing his heartbeat, made him feel calm in the midst of the chaos.

Falco was surprised by the change in the topic of conversation.

-They are safe, my alpha, Bastian has taken care of them so far,” he said.

-That’s fine, you don’t have to worry about anything else, but there won’t be a next time,” he looked at him out of the corner of his eye, “I trust you with my life Falco, so I don’t want to lose you from my side, if you know what I mean.

The younger wolf stood up and bowed, his closed eyes wavering.

-Thank you my alpha, I promise not to fail you again,” he sat up, “Alpha, I also have another piece of news. The other alphas of the Council will be arriving shortly. Lucian sent for them and gave an emergency howl.

-Understood, let’s wait for them all to arrive, prepare the hall.

-The Beta nodded and turned around to replace Edgar entering.

-You fuckers,” his face was set in a grimace, “You just give me trouble, you don’t take care of yourselves. You’re always full of wounds, please think a little of me,” he walked over to where Dante was standing, “But this is worse than I imagined,” his face turned to one of astonishment as he leaned down to examine the wound more closely and looked at his first and second in command in alarm.

-How bad is it? Dante’s heart pounded against his chest.

-Bad enough to tell you that with all the medicine he might have I can’t help him at all, the mark will be permanently in the skin, besides, what the hell did he do to that wound,” he ran his finger along the edge receiving a low g***n from the wolf, “It looks like it hurts and badly.

Edgar turned away to fetch something from his bag and handed it to Dante.

-Edgar walked away and handed it to Dante, “Make sure you rub it on him at least three times a day, I don’t know how much of an effect it will have, but it will help with the pain temporarily. Now if you’ll excuse me, alpha, but there’s nothing more I can do for the queen even though we owe her a lot.

-Don’t worry, Edgar,” Dante sighed, running his hand through Lukyan’s hair, “I’m sure you’re doing your best.

The alpha watched him go and sighed deeply. Turbulent times were ahead. He only hoped he was strong enough to protect his pack and his family.

Bastian couldn’t hold them back any longer. In that room, Sacha, Axel, Fallen and even Matthias himself looked like they wanted to jump him upstairs to get him out of the way. As soon as they had detected his mother’s scent, they had gone crazy. They wanted to see him, to know what had happened. They wanted to know why there was a hollowness in their chests, as if an important member of the family had left their sides.

Even though the situation had been explained to them they couldn’t, they didn’t want to believe it. They needed to see their mother. Finally, the door opened and Falco stood before them. The four of them calmed down and stood still looking at the beta who didn’t speak. He ran off to the side and left the way clear for them to go straight to their destination.

Sacha ran faster than all of them. They rounded the corner and found him there, next to his current foster father. They stopped. Fallen grabbed his younger brother’s arm and pulled him behind him. Matthias stepped in front of him as well. Axel wanted to protest, but stayed by Sacha’s side.

Lukyan turned when he smelled them and turned slowly. His face didn’t show the chaos attacking his body, but Dante laid a hand on his shoulder. He was able to sense it and would give anything to help him, but this was something his mate would have to work out on his own.

The four wolves stopped in front of their mother. Unexpectedly Lukyan smiled in relief and his eyes softened.

-I’m glad you’re all right,” he took a step towards Matthias and raised a hand, straight to his cheek but stopped it a few inches from the skin to pull it away. He remembered the look his sons had given him and from the way they acted he was sure they were still afraid of him.

But before her hand returned to the side of her body, she was grabbed by her eldest son.

-Mother,” she called him that way for the first time, “Are you all right?

Lukyan opened his eyes savouring his son’s voice calling him mother. He smiled again.

-Yes, puppy, I’m fine.

-Ma, you hate us?” Sacha came out from behind Fallen with her head down and stood beside her brother.

-Ma, we’ve been no good,” Axel copied his brother, “That’s why all this happened. Is it true about Laira?

Lukyan was the one who lowered his head this time.

-His bones now rest in peace, I’m sorry, I couldn’t protect him,” his voice trailed off, looking utterly destroyed.

A hand was placed on his head and he was pushed against someone’s chest. The smell of his son Fallen filled his nostrils.

-It’s not your fault, Ma, it’s not your fault.
