Chapter 66 Who Is Trapped?

“The Infernal Group’s manager just called me,” Drake said, showing to the crowd the caller ID on his phone and drawing gasps of admiration. Only someone as talented as Drake could get the Infernal Group’s project manager to contact him personally. Many of those in the crowd wished they could be half as gifted as he was.

As they harbored such thoughts, they soon recalled what a contrast it was to the ever–arrogant Lucian.

He still made bold declarations and acted so haughtily in front of Drake even though he was already a dead man. What an embarrassment.

Picking up the phone, Drake smiled and asked, “Hello, Mr. Bishop. Is there something I can do for you?”

Mason shouted through the phone, “Mr. Hoffman, from this moment on, your partnership with the Infernal Group is terminated. Moreover, you shall be drafted into the Infernal Group’s blacklist and can no longer be one of our partners.”

What?!

Drake was completely dumbfounded by the sudden revelation, looking blankly ahead in shock.

I’m drafted into the Infernal Group’s blacklist?

Drake anxiously asked, “Mr. Bishop, what is the meaning of this? Why did you suddenly terminate our partnership and draft me into the blacklist? Did I do anything wrong?”

Mason explained in a cold voice, “You didn’t do anything wrong. However, you were too quick to judge a book by its cover and pissed off the wrong guy. Besides, the Infernal Group does not make a habit of working with useless idiots. I’m referring to you, Mr. Hoffman.”

He immediately hung up the phone afterward.

Drake simply stood there in shock, listening to the disconnect tone from his phone.

From what Mason told him, Drake was able to surmise that Lucian had something to do with his partnership with the Infernal Group being terminated.

So Lucian wasn’t just bluffing?

Martin sensed that something was wrong, so he asked, “Drake, what happened?”

Still somewhat dazed, Drake replied, “The Infernal Group just drafted me into their blacklist and terminated my contract with them.”

The crowd was completely stunned. They fell deep in thought, looking in the direction in which Lucian had left. They finally understood that he had not been bluffing and was actually capable of doing all those things.

But how? How is Lucian able to get Mason to lose such a big project with a single phone call?

As Lucian entered the banquet hall, he noticed many familiar faces.

All of them belonged to the upper echelons of Sioux. It was evident how significant the Gray Group being publicly listed was to the entire city. However, the heads of the two most prestigious families–the Lowe and White families–were not present. Instead, they got some of their younger executives to attend.

This made it clear that both families did not regard the Gray Group becoming another first–tier family as an important affair.

As a third–tier family, the Harrison family was also attending the party.

“Grandpa, it’s Lucian. He’s here!”

Nadine had quickly noticed Lucian as he was standing nearby, so she immediately leaned over Dax’s shoulder and whispered in his ear.

“I can’t believe that brat is actually here.”

Dax was extremely surprised to see Lucian, as half the city knew that the Big Five had declared they would not rest until Lucian was dead. However, the man in question was still bold enough to show his face here. Was he not afraid of death?

Dax brought the rest of his Harrison family members over to Lucian and said, “Lucian, I can’t believe you didn’t run away.”

Lucian was seated in the corner with a glass of red wine. He smiled, “Why should I run away?

Dax placed his hands behind his back and mocked, “Don’t you know that the Big Five has already declared they will not rest until you are dead? Not to mention, the Gray Group has also announced that the day they get publicly listed is the day you will perish. And in about half an hour, the Gray Group will be listed on the public market. When that happens, you won’t have anywhere to run.”

Lucian sipped his red wine and smiled, “Don’t worry. As long as I’m sitting here, the Gray Group will never be publicly listed.”

Eleanor sneered, “What a joke. The Gray Group has already made ample preparations. It’s only a matter of time now. Once the clock strikes twelve, the market will be open and they will rank

among all the other public companies. And with the support of the Big Five, how could they possibly fail? Just because a worthless fool like you said so?”

Lucian simply smiled and continued drinking his wine in silence.

Nadine said coldly to Lucian, “Don’t say I didn’t warn you, Lucian. The Gray Group and the Big Five has been waiting for you to walk into their trap. They’ve secretly hired a lot of fighters and brought them here, ready to cripple you as revenge for Marcus”

Lucian smiled and said playfully, “Is that so? I wonder, am I the one that’s trapped, or are they?”

“Arrogant bastard.”

“Ignorant fool.”

“Shameless buffoon!”

The crowd was calling him names when they heard his response, judging him as nothing more than a greenhorn who was completely out of his depth. After all, the Gray Group had hidden over a hundred fighters in this party for the sole purpose of avenging Marcus.

“Let’s forget about this little bastard. It’ll be terrible if the Gray family gets the wrong idea and thinks we’re with him.”

Dax shot Lucian a cold glance, his gaze full of animosity. Over the last few days, every time he recalled how Austin had poisoned him, he would feel a burning sensation inside. He wanted nothing more than to see Lucian die a horrific death today and satisfy his thirst for revenge.

The Harrison family ignored Lucian and went back to where they were seated, eagerly awaiting his eventual execution.

“Lucian, you son of a bitch. How dare you take advantage of Freya’s connection to the Infernal Group to have me taken off the project!”

Suddenly, a rageful voice erupted amidst the merry atmosphere of the banquet hall.

Everyone’s eyes fell upon Drake and his friends as the entire hall immediately fell silent.

“Who is he?” Gareth, second eldest of the Gray family, frowned and asked.

Gareth took over a lot of the matters relating to the Gray Group being publicly listed ever since Marcus got crippled and had to receive medical care in the hospital. Naturally, he was angered to see someone cause a scene as he didn’t want any problems happening during the celebration party.

“Uncle Gareth, he’s my friend,” Tom quickly went over and explained.

“Go and ask him what’s going on. It looks like there’s a bit of friction between your friend and that little bastard Lucian.”

Gareth had also just noticed Lucian sitting in the corner, and was fuming with rage. He never thought that the kid would be brave enough to actually show up. But since he did, there was no better opportunity to settle all their past grievances.

Tom approached Drake and asked, “Drake, what happened?”

Drake got even angrier just recalling what happened. He pointed at Lucian and said, “Tom, that brat is an absolute menace. He used Freya’s connection to the Infernal Group and ruined the project I had painstakingly worked to get. You have to help me.”

Tom glanced at Lucian, then said to Drake, “Don’t worry. Today is the day the Gray Group gets publicly listed, and we have many important figures at this party. I’ll help you ask them to get your project back for you!”

“Are you serious?!”

Tom looked around at all the important figures and felt a wave of excitement and joy. With such bigshots helping him out, he could get Drake’s project back with a single phone call. Moreover, there was even a chance that the Infernal Group might offer some additional assistance upon realizing how influential he was.

“Yes, I’ll talk to them for you.”

Tom despised Lucian to the bone, so he definitely didn’t want things to go his way so easily. He immediately brought Drake over to Gareth and said, “Uncle Gareth, this is a good friend of mine. Because of Lucian’s interference, he lost a project with the Infernal Group. Can you help him out a little?

Gareth pointed at Henry, who was nearby, and said, “Your Grandpa is close with the Infernal Group’s president. You should go talk to him. He can solve your issue with a single phone call, and he might even be able to get Freya’s project terminated too.”
