A Relentless Pursuit for Love -
Chapter 530
Chapter 530
This colorful enamel bowl was not the same as the four bowls Sage purchased at the charity dinnera long time ago.
Sage's eyes lit up as soon as she placed it inthe pal of her hand.
“Was this from the ancient golden years?”
Jace's eyes twinkled. He knew Sage loved antique goods, but he did not expect her eyes to be thatsharp
He said with a smile, “Yeah.” Then, he asked, “How did you know?"
Sage slowly turned the small bow! with a white bottom in her hand. While she observed it, bouts ofinformation flashed in her mind
The colorful enamel bow! had plum blossoms and peony patterns. It was probably made in theancient golden years. It had a bigger mouth, a beautifully curved wall, and a round bottom. Thebowl was even painted with a white glaze inside. The enamel drawing outside depicted two plumblossoms on the old branches, in full bloom.
She muttered subconsiouly, “The enamel bowls from the ancient silver years were less decoratedand simple, but the enamel bowls from the ancient golden years always came with paintings offlowers, landscapes, and figures. It also came with poems inscriptions and seals. The crafter lovedintegrating traditional arts in all forms as one style. Besides, the enamel bowls from the ancientsilver years usually has a darker bottom, but the enamel bowls from the ancient golden years mostlyhas a white bottom.”
“That's a good observation.”
Jace showed admiration for her in his eyes. He explained, “This is the colorful enamel bow! withplum painting from the ancient golden years.”
Jade read out the poem as soon as Sage saw the poem-inscribed on the side of the bowl. “After ahundred chirps and a thousand voices, new flowers and grass will arrive once again.”
Jace smiled gently, “This is for you.” Sage was still in a trance when he told her that it was for her.She suddenly remembered something that had happened at the charity dinner before. They wereboth competing to win the bid for the four colorful enamel bowls. He kept raising the bid againsther and finally won the bid. He was so determined to win the bid back then.
“This is for me?”
Sage put the bowl back into the box, but her gaze was still fixated on the precious bowl. She saidwith a small smile, “Mister Jace, when did you become so generous? Why are you gifting such atreasured item to me?”
She gently closed the wooden box and said, “I'll take it.”
Jace was so afraid that she would not take it. He looked relieved when she said she would take
it
However, what she said next surprised him.
Sage added, “Name your price.”
Jace became nervous again. His eyes widened in shock, “What?”
“I don’t know how you got this, but I'm sure it must've been a lot of work.”
Sage said softly, “You can never do a loss -making business. I know. This is such a treasured item. Ican't let you lose money, can I? Do you have something you're interested in? If I can offer you inexchange for this, I will not object to it.”
She treated his gift as a business trade. She refused to accept his feelings and directly requestedhim to name a price.
The way she dealt with him felt like a cold piercing knife had just stabbed into his back.
Jace's throat felt dry. After a short moment of silence, he said reluctantly, “I-I didn't give it to you formoney. I don't want anything from you either. I just want to make you happy.” “I am happy.” Sagedid not hide her emotions. “But I can’t accept this without giving something back. Even brothershave to settle their debt carefully. Besides, we're not even friends. We're just a divorced cou...” Shejust could not say the word couple. It was ridiculous to say it out loud.
They were only a couple in name, but it was not real. How could she say it?
"Anyway, I have to pay for it.”
Sage's beautiful eyes remained emotionless. Seeing that Jace refused to speak, she continued,”Alright then. I'll have Hunter write a check to you based on the market value. Otherwise, I'll give youa gift in return...”
Jace interjected before she could finish her sentence. “I want the pin that's on your hair.”
Sage was stunned. When Jace pulled the wooden hairpin out of her hair, her moderately long blackhair draped over her shoulders.
“I'll take this,” Jace said and held the wooden hairpin in his hand.
Sage frowned. “This is just an ordinary wooden hairpin. It's not worth much.”
When she was shopping with Laura, she bought the wooden hairpin from a stall. The wood qualitywas great, but it was just a plain hairpin. She was bored staying in the ward and had nothing to do,so she carved her name and a rose onto the hairpin, making the hairpin look slightly nicer. Even so,the difference between a three-dollar hairpin and an antique enamel was far too great of an equalexchange.
