Chapter 598 Jace sat on the bench outside the ward. He was awake all night. The blue under-eyebag was showing on his face. Yoel just had a phone call with his father. After a long explanation ofthe series of questions, he could finally retreat.

He strode over to Jace. “Why are you sitting outside? Didn't you bring the lunchboxes to eat withSage?”

Jace's voice was raspy. “I'm not hungry.” Yoel glanced into the ward and understood. He snorted,"Why are you not hungry? Did they kick you out?” “No.” Jace grimaced, “I'll make the air tenseinside.” “Right. Looking at you, I don't think Sage’s brothers can eat.” Yoel laughed at his friend'smisery from the bottom of his heart. As he sat down on one side of the bench, Jace suddenly got upwithout warning. Yoel almost tumbled over with the bench. “Holy cr*p.” Yoel steadied himself with agrimace, then glared at Jace. "You're too vengeful!"

Jace sat down again with a stern face.

Yoel looked at his grim face. He made Jace upset, so he had to coax him. “I'm just kidding. You mayhave wronged her before, but you're a great hero this time. Shouldn't their impression of youchange?”

Jace pursed his lips. “I don't know.”

He was exhausted, so he leaned back in the seat with his eyes closed. Whenever he remembered thescene where Sage lay on the driver's seat with her head covered in blood, fear consumed him.

He was stiff and cold, and his hands just kept trembling. He was in a car accident once. It almostkilled him. The accident had changed his character and also his life.

The pain he experienced was something he would never want Sage to experience.

When he carried her to the hospital, she was lying softly in her arms. She was so light that shewould just melt with the wind.

He kept calling out fier name. At that moment, he had an unprecedented fear of losing her.

When she lay weakly in his arms, calling for her parents in a daze, his heart ached for her.

It was then that he finally understood her fragile side underneath her strong shell. She had a softheart, but she had put on her armor to hide her most vulnerable side.

Yoel hunched over to peek into the ward. When he saw the few men who surrounded Sage, heshrunk in fear.

Yoel bristled, “No offense, but if you do get back with Sage, you'll suffer from so many difficultbrothers-in-law.”

Jace opened his eyes upon hearing what he had just said. He glanced at him and asked, “Are younot pursuing her anymore?”

Yoel glared at him. “I want to, but can 1?”

He sat back with a resentful face and crossed his legs. He said breezily, “I'm just a backup. If youreally can't do it, I'll fill in for you!” Jace fell silent and simply ignored him. When Jace looked atSage's reliance on her brothers, he felt envious. If he had loved her well back then, she would haverelied on him as much as he did with her brothers. She would not have turned away from him. In theafternoon, Nigel went to help Sage get discharged. When he came back, he brought Sean with him.“Sean.” Sage hurriedly greeted him when she saw him. She eagerly asked, “How's it going?” Seanhad been busy since his arrival in Salem City.
