chapter 5
What’s more, there was only an elderly person in the house who posed no threat to them, so they became even more unscrupulous.
The scars on my body were always getting new ones before the old ones healed.
I didn’t dare tell my grandma about this, for I was afraid that if I did, she would think I was a bastard and abandon me. As time went by, due to the long–term bullying, I became sensitive and lacked love.
At that time, I really hoped to meet someone who loved me wholeheartedly.
So, I thought Sheldon was that person.
We got together.
However, he said that he was currently in the rising stage of his career and it wasn’t convenient for him to make our relationship public.
“Cynthia, wait for me a few more years, and I will go public with our relationship and marry you.”
So, for this promise, even though we had been dating for five years, I was still the little assistant who served him coffee, stayed up all night, and ran around for him.
Only then did I realize how wrong my original decision was.
Our relationship was wrong from the beginning.
The next day, I went to the market and bought some daily necessities.
Then I saw that the door of the house had been knocked open.
Grandma loved cleanliness when she was alive.
But then, the house I organized had become a mess.
Especially her room, where all the drawers and cabinets were rummaged through – it was unbearable to look at. Lindsay stood in the middle, still ordering people around.
When I witnessed that scene, I felt the blood rushing to my head.
I was so angry that I shouted, “Stop! What are you doing? Breaking into someone’s house is illegal! Believe it or not, I will sue you!”
Lindsay raised her eyebrows, “Ah, my earrings fell here yesterday.”
“That was given to me by Sheldon. I couldn’t bear to lose it, so I came here to look for it myself.”
“I love them so much that I might have offended you a little, Cynthia, I hope you don’t mind.”
I was not bothered to argue with her, so I turned on my phone and called the police while saying, “Get out of here with your people!”
The phone was taken away, and a cold voice came from behind, “Lindsay’s earrings are made of pure natural jadeite, worth tens of thousands. You chased her away like this, you must be feeling guilty, right? You must have found those lost earrings.”
“Cynthia, call the police if you want, but are you prepared to deal with the consequences?”
By the end, Sheldon’s voice took on a chilling, callous edge.
