Alpha Queen
Chapter 28

Liviana’s POV

There was a knock on the door and it opened revealing Dante.

“Hey” he said as he stood by my door.

“What’s up?” I said

“I just wanted to check on you” he said.

“Are you sure it’s just that?” I said with a raised brow.

I knew he wanted to talk about something.

“Come in. Let’s talk” I told him. He sighed and closed the door.

“You want to talk about Luan, don’t you?” I said as he sat down on the couch in the corner.

“You mean, your excuse for a mate?” he scoffed. I raised a brow at him.

“You hate him that much huh?” I pointed out crossing my arms in front of my chest.

“I don’t hate him. I just don’t like him” he denied and I chuckled.

“Why? You barely even know him?” I asked curiously.

“Exactly. That’s also why I don’t trust him. Specially not with my niece” he said with a serious look on his face.

“There’s something more to it, isn’t there?” I said and he just stared straight into my eyes.

“Tell me” I demanded. He sighed.

“He’s the known heir of royal family” he started.

“And so?” I said. He raised a brow at me.

“That should be you, Liviana” he told me. I shrugged.

“I don’t want to have to do anything about the throne though” I admitted. His brows furrowed a little.

“It’s your fate” he said. I raised a brow at him again.

Fate?

“You believe in fate?” I asked. He didn’t seem like the type to believe in such things.

“No. But I believe in you” he told me and we stared at each other for a moment. I sighed.

“How much do you know?” I asked curiously.

“As much as I need to know” he answered which didn’t answer my question much.

Of course he wasn’t going to go into detail about it.

“How did you replace my father? I was told that they were captured so how were you able to get to him?” I suddenly asked.

He hadn’t told me that yet.

“I have my ways, little wolf” he only said. My brows furrowed.

“Tell me” I demanded. He shook his head.

“Not tonight” he said making me sigh in disappointment.

“Why not?” I asked persistently.

“In time, I will” he promised. I sighed again and let it go.

I knew I wouldn’t be able to get it out of him.

“Do you love him?” he suddenly asked.

“I don’t know. The mate bond complicates things” I told him. He nodded.

“Does he know?” he asked again. I knew he was talking about me being the lost princess.

“He’s the only one who knew before you came along” I told him making him close his eyes in frustration.

“You trust him?” he asked. I nodded.

“I do” I said confidently.

“Why?” he asked again.

“He’s my mate after all” I said.

“But he’s the son of the King who replaced your birth father” he said.

He is.

“He wasn’t even old enough to understand such things when it happened. Do you expect me to blame it on him?” I said making him sigh.

“He’s not a bad guy. That I can tell you” I assured him.

I haven’t known Luan for long but I know that I can trust him.

“How are you so sure?” he said. I stared straight into his eyes.

“Because he’s my other half” I stated. We stared into each other’s eyes for a few moments.

Yes, I did not agree to be mated with Luan but I’ve accepted now that he’s my mate and I see that as progress.

Although I still don’t see myself being mated to him anytime soon.

Not in this situation.

Everything is still a mess.

“Do you have a mate?” I asked before I could even think of it. He gave me a sad smile.

“I don’t have one. But I had a fiance” he told me.

“Had?” I asked.

“I had a human partner before you were born. She was pregnant with our daughter” he told me. It was a big revelation.

“Where is she now?” I asked him.

“In the afterlife, Liviana” he told me with a small smile.

She died. They died.

“I’m sorry” I immediately said. He gave me an assuring smile.

“I would’ve loved to see you grow up too. I did. But I was afraid that if I stayed anywhere near you or my brother, you’ll both end up like them” he told me. I stood up from my head and approached him.

I hugged him.

“I’m sorry, uncle” I whispered. He hugged me tighter.

He’s in pain.

“I can’t lose you too, Liviana. I hope you understand why I’m being so protective of you now” he said. I nodded.

“You don’t have to worry about me. I can take care of myself well” I assured him.

“I know. But it still terrifies me” he admitted. I caressed his back a little.

Whatever happened to them, it wasn’t good. I had this gut feeling.

There was something darker about this loss.

“Aren’t you going ask what happened?” he muttered. I shook my head.

“I wouldn’t want you to think of what happened again” I told him and I felt his breathing quicken.

“They were murdered” he said shaking.

“They killed them, Liviana. They killed my family” he said as his voice broke. I kept rubbing his back soothingly.

“I shouldn’t have left that night. I should’ve stayed at home and protect them. I could’ve saved them, Liviana”

I hugged him tighter as he broke down.

“She died in my arms” he sobbed.

My heart clenched and I felt anger burning inside of me.

I wanted b***d.

I wanted the b***d of the killer.

They took away my uncle’s partner anf unborn child.

“We were going to have a daughter. She would’ve grown up beautifully. We would’ve been a family” he said weakly.

Red.

All I could see was red.

How can someone be so cruel.

How can someone kill a pregnant woman along with her unborn child.

My eyes glowed gold.

“Who did it?”
