Alpha´s curvy bullied human mate
Chapter 49: The Next Moon

Penelope

"But she's... human."

"Luna, I think there must have been a mistake..."

Stares and disapproving comments, just as I had imagined. The guests saw me widen my eyes and I could feel them tense up, as if their wolves were doubting what was going on, as if they couldn't trust their senses.

During my years in Moonstone, there had been many, many people who had mistreated me, and frankly, there were not many distinctions - men and women, warriors and workers, Omegas, and even children.

But undoubtedly the worst were the people closest to the Alpha's family, who had more power... and therefore could hurt me more.

And of course, there were Roger's father Robert, his daughter Regina, as well as the group of important men who had hung around with Nate when he was a teenager - the children of former warriors, the strongest girls, the Alpha's friends... a whole entourage of terror for me.

I was just paralyzed. I would like to say that I had already overcome these things, that maybe I had bounced back, learned from it, and become a little stronger. But the reality was that I had never prepared myself to come back here. Everything in me was in denial, and so I had not forgotten the horrors I had lived through.

They still lived in my nightmares, and I was reliving them as a terrible sequel, and no sequel was ever good.

"Moonstone wolves, show a little more respect!" Harriet chastised them, unable to believe her ears. She took me by the arm in a mostly protective gesture.

"I had already told them that our guest was human and that she deserved all our consideration and attention because she was a very special person," said Ruth, who seemed to be getting out of hand. I wondered what she was expecting. "Yes, a human, but not... her!" exclaimed the son of a warrior whom I remembered liked to make a mess just to see me clean the floor. Collin, I think his name was.

He had noticed that I was not just any human, but someone they already knew. When everyone seemed to have forgotten me.

"Luna Harriet... I think it's best if I just left..." I whispered, as Roger's sister, Regina, got up from her seat and approached me with an incredulous face.

"But we don't know any humans, not after what they did and what we lost. Never again will a human set foot in Moonstone territory," she said, upset. "Everyone, please! We have a guest, and we have to treat her with respect," Ruth said, now trying to bring some kind of order.

The rest of the guests didn't know what to do. It was like being invited to a party, but realizing it wasn't what they expected.

The room was nicely decorated and arranged and the food was getting cold. Ruth must have put a lot of effort into the brunch... but it was for nothing.

'I should never have accepted this invitation, I should have never come here,' I thought to myself now, terrified.

"Come on, Regina! I know you can use your head!" Collin said, but the girl continued to approach me as Naomi stepped out to mark the distance. "I suggest you don't take another step."

"Ah, the human has a bodyguard. Don't be ridiculous, Naomi. Another one who hangs out with humans, pathetic woman," Regina replied, and Naomi growled. "Watch what you say," Naomi responded. But by the look on Regina's face... she seemed to have solved the riddle.

"You are... Cinderella! The human who served us in the pack house!" she said, raising her voice in surprise and excitement at having understood who I was. Now I heard murmurs and expressions of disbelief. Harriet is astonished.

"Please, everybody behave!" cried Ruth. But to me, it seemed to all be in vain. My heart felt like a wild, frightened horse.

"But Luna, what is the servant doing here?" asked another woman, while Regina looked at me in disgust.

"Not only was she a servant, she was also a traitor! She gave us to rogues! Moonstone suffered so much because of her!" Collin shouted, and now everyone was horrified. Regina covered her mouth, as did the rest of the women, while the men roared and controlled their wolves. "What is she doing here?!"

"She's been completely banished from the pack!"

"She's a curse and a traitor!"

"Did she go from cleaning floors to being welcomed back, like nothing has happened?!"

They all shouted in a cacophony of noise and rage, while I wanted to hide in a hole under the ground.

"Silence!" shouted Ruth, imposing authority. But the damage was already done. There would be no turning back after this.

"Her Alpha is giving protection because she discovered important facts about her involvement in this attack, facts that many of you already know. She has done more to expose the lies of our so-called Crimson Fangs allies than what a human teenager might have done here, especially since her family lives in this pack!" she said loud and clear, as Naomi continued in front of me in a defensive position.

"She has no family here! She was never really one of us! She was just a lost girl!" said Robert, and I answered immediately.

"They are my family! Don't you dare say that! I was taken from my home, the only thing I knew, because of a mistake and incessant gossip, when I did nothing and lost everything. You never treated me right and destroyed my life!" I shouted desperately, and everyone stared at me as if they couldn't believe I had spoken.

"How dare you talk back to us, you're filthy and a disgrace to everyone!" an older woman said to me.

"You slut!"

"The Alpha should have killed you immediately!" yelled Collin, and I saw Naomi turn into her wolf and show her roaring teeth.

"Stop it! Have you not understood a word I have said? She is welcome and an important person for Moonstone!" Ruth shouted as Harriet grabbed my shoulders.

"What have they done to you, my child? I can't imagine what has happened here..." she said, looking at me with compassion and horror.

Ruth keeps trying to bring order, but the supposedly happy brunch has turned into a shouting match.

"What is the point of her being here? We shouldn't be forced to be in her presence, let alone pay respect to her as if she were someone important. There can only be one reason, and frankly, I think it's impossible," said Robert, the previous Beta, a man very loyal to Nate's father, who wasn't here. I thought that was a wise decision.

"Tell us, Luna, why is she here?" asks Regina.

"We have a right to know! There is already a human mate for this she-wolf, and he is only accepted because he is her destiny's mate," said the former Beta Robert, pointing at Naomi, who growled. "And we know the humans have information... but this is... a scandal!" declared another woman.

"Enough! I am your Luna, and you must trust your Alpha and what we say!" roared Ruth. For a moment, everyone was silent. They cannot go against their Moon. They had shown enough disrespect already.

But if I thought things had calmed down... I was very wrong. Suddenly, someone appears, undoubtedly the person who shouldn't be here.

The man entered like a cyclone, throwing open the door and entering the room with huge strides. I could never forget Alpha Ivan... Nate's father.

The man had hardly aged, and his strength was palpable. While Ruth was doing her best to remain calm, I knew that from that moment on, everything would come crashing down.

"What is this filthy girl doing here? What is this damned human doing in my pack?" the man shouted with fury, his voice booming throughout the house.

Everyone fell silent, except for Naomi, who continued to growl and didn't seem to mind confronting the Alpha.

"What is this, Ruth? Tell me, damn it! Because it was my understanding that we were protecting the humans... but at no time was it mentioned that it included this traitor!" he roared. I was shaken, and even Ruth faltered. But Harriet, a woman who was much older and not even from this pack, was certainly much braver than many who seemed to be horrified just to see him.

"This human girl whom you all seem to have treated like trash... is the next Luna of this pack. She is your son's mate, the destined and true mate, chosen by the Moon Goddess herself!" she exclaimed proudly.

I could see the exact moment when the impact of the news hit the man, and I could also see his anger. There were gasps and growls from the others. The tension in the room was palpable and desperate. "What are you saying? No, no! There must be some mistake. This ordinary woman cannot be the heir to the Moonstone, I will not allow it!" Alpha Ivan roared back, still stunned.

"Neither you nor anyone else can go against the wishes of the Moon Goddess. We just have to be grateful and..." said Ruth as the man roared.

"I will never allow that human bitch to be with my son! Never!" he shouted. Harriet screamed and Naomi growled even more.

Then we all heard an angry roar that caused some people to fall to the ground, and I felt it practically in my bones.
