Alita

My brothers are receiving their wolves tonight. Or... well... I know Osborn will. But I wonder if Peelle will. My mom still had a wolf even though she had elf tendencies so hopefully he'll end up like her. Osborn paces as the full moon continues to rise. Every one of us are sitting outside waiting for the shift to happen.

Mom, dad, Uncle Ken, Aunt Abigail, Uncle Leon, Aunt Raf, and my cousins Laila and Lauren. Aunt Alena and my uncles Breda and Solomon wanted to be here, but for some reason they couldn't make it. Uncle Ken and Aunt Abby's baby is already fast asleep upstairs. I glance over at Abby as she rubs her baby bump and breathes out. She only has about two months left before the baby is born. Laila is only a couple of months younger than Peelle and Osborn and I can see her nervousness. Her thoughts are loud, she's fearful of how the boys will respond to the pain of the shift. This is the first time she's watched someone shift for the first time and it scares her knowing that she'll experience is in a couple of months.

A low groan causes everyone to snap their heads toward the boys and I notice that Osborn is looking at Peelle. Peele's shift is happening first. Osborn's jealous I can hear his roaring thoughts, "I'm the oldest! How is he shifting before me?! This will make everyone think I'm not meant to be Alpha. He can't take my place. It's my birthright."

I bite my tongue to force myself from speaking out. Peelle isn't even interested in the Alpha position, he never has been. I hate that Osborn only seems to care about himself and isn't concerned about Peelle's wellbeing.

Peelle falls to his knees as the shift begins. The cracking sound of his bones rearranging makes me wince and I can hear Laila's thoughts as she's panicking. I need to remember to check on her later, but I can't right now. I'm too focused on Peelle. Apparently, Peelle forgot to leave his animals in their cage in his room because Scrat and Stitch scurry out of his pockets and rush over to me. They climb my body until they reach my shoulders and then they stare at Peelle as he continues in his shift. Suddenly, Osborn lets out a low growling groaning noise. I watch with wide eyes as he falls onto his knees as the shift continues. He looks like he's glaring at Peelle like he's daring him to shift before him.

I hate his attitude towards Peelle. Peelle says he remembers having good times with Osborn, but I've never seen them. There are small moments that I remember being good like celebrating Christmas or a birthday, but otherwise, he's always been cold and distant. I used to wonder if he even liked me, but I've been able to tell based off his thoughts that he thinks fondly of me.

Suddenly, patches of golden fur pop up along Osborn's body and we all watch in adoration as he bursts forward as a giant wolf. His wolf is huge and is at least as tall as our father's.

His whole body is gold like our dad's wolf, but it has one white tipped ear and one white paw showing the slightest bit of our mother's wolf's color.

He stands proud and everyone claps for him and dad is bursting with pride. Then Peelle shifts, but he is the opposite of Osborn. His wolf is white like mom's except for a small gold patch in the center of his chest.

His wolf isn't as big as Osborn's, but they both are very large. Osborn lets out a loud howl and Peelle follows suit.

My dad asks, “Are you boys ready to go for a run?"

Both of them nod their huge heads and my dad looks to everyone else and says, "Whoever wants to join is welcome to."

My dad quickly shifts and it's crazy seeing the size between him and my brothers. They're so similar, but Peelle is the smallest. My uncles shift immediately, and my Aunt Raf does too. Mom looks over at me and even without reading her mind I know she's questioning whether she should leave me.

I smile at her and urge her, "Go!"

She grins as she shifts and my Aunt Abby walks over to me and wraps her arm around my shoulder and then cranes her neck to look over at Lauren and Laila and asks, "Do you girls want to watch a movie?"

We all nod our heads and follow her inside. I hope my brothers are enjoying their first run as wolves. Osborn

It is liberating being in my wolf form. As soon as I shifted my wolf grumbled to me, "My name is Belos."

I smirk, "I'm glad that you're finally here, Belos."

He surges our body forward making sure that we are keeping pace with my dad. I can feel Belos exuding confidence as he wants everyone to see him to know that he is the new Alpha.

My brother is right on our heels and behind him is anyone else who joined us. It feels like I've waited my whole life for this moment, I'm so grateful that it's finally here.

Peelle

I was shocked when it seemed like I might shift first. And although I know it wasn't personal, my brother did not look happy that I might shift before him.

No one will ever know, but I forced my wolf to wait. I could tell that Osborn needed this more than I did. When my wolf came forward, he complained, "Don't you ever hold me back again."

I chuckle at him, "Sorry about that. What's your name? I'm Peelle."

"I know who you are. I have been with you your whole life I've just been dormant. My name is King."

I ask, "King? What are you the king of?"

"King of demons... I don't know! My name is King."

I laugh at his response; I think I'm going to enjoy having a wolf.

He follows behind Osborn the whole time careful not to run faster. Even though I haven't told him anything, he already knows that Osborn needs to remain the best in every way. He wonders if Osborn is even trying to run because we could go faster than we are. But we remain behind.

I don't want the Alpha position; I don't know how King feels. I'm sure on some level he wants to be higher ranked because everyone always does, but he respects the way I feel.

As we head back the pack house, I feel relieved. This night is over with, I have gained my wolf, and now I don't have to worry about whether or not I have one.

Our birthday party is in a few days and who knows? I might even meet my mate.
