Osborn

The party is loud, and I can't help the tension I feel in my shoulders from how loud the sound is. I wanted something classy, and this sounds like it will be a rager.

I shouldn't be surprised, Peelle was a part of planning and he's the easy going party boy. The only thing I hope is that the party is big with plenty of girls. I need to replace my mate. My dad wants me to have her before he will give me the Alpha title. There's a soft knock on my door and I mumble, "Come in."

Mom walks in with a smile on her face and says, "My, you look handsome, Ozzy."

I smile at her, "Thanks mom."

She walks over to me and puts her hands on my shoulders as she looks me up and down and asks, "Are you ready for this, bud? She could be out there tonight."

I smirk, "That's what I'm hoping for. I'm ready, mom."

She nods and says, "Okay, well come by the balcony when you're ready to be presented to your pack. Your father will wait until both you and Peelle get there."

I follow behind her as I say, "I'm always ready, mom."

As we walk, Peelle comes out of his room, and I'm surprised to see him dressed up. His hair is brushed back and in a small ponytail to keep it out of his face and he wears a suit. Sure, the suit is quirky because it's a green color and has some design on it, but at least it's a suit.

Dad looks at us as we walk near and he smiles as he says, "My boys! Are you ready for tonight?"

I state, "Born ready."

Peelle nods along with me and dad nods as he takes mom's arm, and they walk out on the balcony to address the pack.

Peelle and I stay behind the curtain as we wait for my dad to announce us. Peelle glances toward me but never says anything so I breathe in as I wait for dad.

Finally, I hear him say the words, "I now present my sons and your future Alpha, Osborn, and his brother Peelle!"

We walk through the curtain and onto the balcony where the applause is roaring. I look around, pleased by how large the crowd is. But I hope that maybe some girl will catch my eye. We wave to the crowd before my dad says, "Enjoy the party everyone! Thank you for celebrating with us!"

We leave the balcony and both Peelle and I rush down the stairs to go outside. It surprises me how fast Peelle moves as he gets in front of me and rushes outside. He moves straight to the dance area set up outside and gets together with his friends. They whoop and holler in an obnoxious way and I resist rolling my eyes. This night isn't about fun. It's about replaceing my mate. Time to get her.

As I make my way through the crowd I'm stopped by many people. The adults wanted to congratulate me for receiving my wolf and wanted to know when I would officially be taking the Alpha role and if I plan to implement any changes.

No boy my age approached me, but there was a sea of girls coming to me. Most of them were wearing short dresses, had on too much make up, and way too much perfume. The perfume was so overwhelming at times that it was hard not to cough from the scent. Some of the girls would push their breasts toward me and bat their eyes in a seductive manner trying to keep my attention.

No one could keep my attention. I was on a mission. I needed to replace my mate, now.

I'm out all night and by the time I drag myself home the sun is rising.

I never found her. How is it possible? So many people were here... how could she not be?

I growl lowly as I enter my home, now I can't be Alpha.

Peelle

The party was fantastic. Mom really outdid herself with the planning. Once Osborn and I got to the crowd he disappeared, and I went off to hang out with people my age.

It was fun and the perfect way to celebrate my 18th birthday. It was 3:00 a.m. by the time I went back to my room, but I was happy, even if I didn't meet my mate tonight.

I trust in the moon goddess and her divine timing, and I know I will meet my mate when I'm supposed to.

I breathe out happily before I fall asleep.

What I wasn't expecting was to wake up at sunrise to the sound of my brother and my parents.

Osborn snaps, "I've been out all night looking for her! How long am I supposed to wait to take the title that is rightfully mine?!"

My mom snaps at him, "Osborn, you watch your tone!"

My dad attempts to settle them down, "Everyone breathe!"

I sit down at the top of the stairs as I continue to listen to them. Alita's door opens and she crawls toward me. I put a finger to my lips, and she nods understanding that she needs to be quiet. Osborn says, "I'm supposed to be Alpha. Do you know how many people asked me when I would be taking the role?"

My dad responds, "That doesn't matter, Osborn! Trust me, the role is hard on your own. It would be much better if you waited."

Osborn lets out an annoyed growl then he yells, "Why are the two of you listening and watching like I'm on display at the f*****g circus?!"

My mom screeches, "OSBORN!"

He growls and runs out of the pack house, and I can hear his bones c***k as they rearrange into his wolf, and he takes off. Alita and I walk downstairs and Alita murmurs, "His mind is so dark."

Mom looks at us with her arms crossed as she asks, "And just what do you two think you were doing?"

"His yelling woke us up, mom." I answer as Alita nods her head in agreement. Mom breathes out and looks toward dad and he says, "Go back to bed, kids, everything will be okay."

Alita and I turn back to the stairwell and Alita whispers, "He's lying."

I ask in a quiet tone, "What makes you say that?"

She follows me to my room and says, "Osborn's behavior concerns him. He's uncertain if everything will really be okay."

"Hmm," I mumble. Alita walks to my door and opens it and puts a finger to her lips. I roll my eyes at her nosey nature, but I have to admit, I want to hear what mom and dad are saying too. I sit on the other side of the door as I hear my mom say, "Evan, his mind is like yours whenever we got together."

Dad huffs, "But... why? I know that whole k********g thing happened when he was young, but was that truly so bad that it has caused him this much mental anguish? I just, I don't understand, Claudia. We got him a therapist, we've tightened security, none of our family has ever been at risk again. But his mind is still so..."

Mom sighs, "Different. I know. I don't know why. But we must have faith my love. The moon goddess will heal whatever is darkening him. We just need to have faith."

Dad says, "You're right, Claudia. We've done the best we can as parents, it's out of our hands now."

We hear their footsteps and Alita quietly shuts the door and looks at me. Neither of us have any words to say and even if my parents have faith for Osborn, we don't. He's been secluded and cold for as long as I can remember. I don't know if there is any way to save him from what he's become. Osborn

I'm angry at this overall situation. It's ridiculous!

I'm eighteen, I have my wolf, and I have been trained my entire life to be the Alpha of the Scarlet Pack! Now, suddenly, I can't have that all because I haven't met my mate.

I push my wolf, Belos, as hard as I can. He seems happy to be out and moving so fast. As we run, I see some rogues trying to come across the border and I run over and allow the animal side of me to come out and I s*******r them.

I hate the rogues. They took me from my home, they made me have to be this way! I can't be close to anyone, or I risk them getting hurt!

No rogue can be trusted, and they all deserve death.

Once I killed the last of the group, I allowed myself to shift back, and I can't help the choppy sob that slips from my mouth.

I hate them. I hate what's become of me because of them!

I'm sorry Peelle, Alita, mom, and dad, I'm sorry I keep you at arm's length. But it's the only way I can guarantee your safety...
