Alpha's Little Vampire Mate -
CHAPTER 126
Chloe's POV:
Astonishment! That was all I could feel, apart from Marcus's eyes which had not left me the whole time. He was probably scared that I was going to react, as he had gone against my wish and thrown me a party... a surprise one at that! I was going to give him a react, but not one he was hoping for.
I let my eyes roam around the large hall, that was lit up by bright lights. I would say that they had outdone themselves, Lily most of all and I felt really embarrassed as I had refused to talk to her earlier, when she had come to help with my makeup. I could not be blamed, could I? I thought my best friend had forgotten to wish me a 'happy birthday' and even when she came over, she had not bothered to ask where I was all dressed up to go to. I would have figured that they had something schemed!
Our eyes met across the room and she scowled, while I fought a smile. She had come to say hi to me earlier and I had still snubbed her, not because I was angry but I was too embarrassed to talk to her. She was going to rub it in my face and I was not ready for that.
"Hey beautiful!"
I was caught off guard, when Titus jones us by my left, flinging one large arm around my neck. I turned to him and grin, loving how his actions made Marcus growl beside me. We started talking, which made Marcus all the more irritated. The issue of Titus's drawing had popped up again, and my husband had decided to continue his torture on Titus, if I had not asked him to bury the hatchet. But the way I was seeing things now; it seemed like Titus was still going to get that torturing-
"Get your filthy hands off my wife!" Marcus snapped, growling under his breath. I knew he had had not attacked yet because he was trying to play the good host and not create a scene. "Did you not hear me, you idiot!"
I giggled, when Titus let go, raising his hand in mock surrender. He leaned in and dropped a peck on my cheek, before walking away. "Stop growling," I said, nudging him in the ribs with my elbow. "You are going to scare the guests away if you continue to frown so much..."
He scoffed, pulling me away to greet the next couple. "I will make sure to unman Titus the next time I see him," he said in a low but dangerous tone of voice. "That is a promise!"
I shivered at his tone, but decided to ignore it and tried to meet up with his fast strides. The night was a chilly, which would normally have not been a problem but what with me pregnant and all, the heat had become intense and I was warm almost all of the time. My temperature gave me a perfect feel of my wolf side(since I was usually always cold), which made me contemplate if my mother might have been ring about my baby being a vampire child. It had taken a lot out of me and also, my wolf and demon had been put to rest as not to disturb it and I badly missed them. It felt like something inside of me had been removed and if not that I had been prepped already, I don't doubt that I would have felt I lost them. "Alpha Hansel," Marcus nodded to the next person we approached to greet for the night. My eyes flickered over to the blond woman that was perched on his arm and I was taken aback by the glare on her face. She looked to be having a problem with me, either that or she just liked to glare for fun. "Juanita, fancy seeing you here..."
I turned to look at my husband, feeling him tense up as his attention shifted to the lady. She was short, with a round face, pointed nose and very thin lips. Her high cheek bones looked ready to pierce into her forehead but all in all; she was a beautiful one.
"... my wife, Chloe," I heard Marcus say. Everyone one was looking at me expectantly and that was when I noticed that I had probably missed out on most of the discussion. A nudge in my ribs made me look up at Marcus. "Say hi to Alpha Hansel and his girlfriend, Juanita."
"Hello." I put on my most dazzling smile, concealing my embarrassment perfectly. "Nice to meet you Alpha Hansel," then I turned over to the glaring lady, sizing her up. "And you too, Gretel," I said dryly, the smile disappearing from my face. "It's Juanita," she said in a clipped tone, giving me an even colder glare.
"Oh!" I said in mock embarrassment. "Forgive me, Josephine!"
Juanita realized then that I was out to rile her up, and decided to avoid me. She then shifted her eyes back to Marcus and that was when I noticed that she was was checking my husband out. "You don't look bad, Marcus. It's been too long since I last saw you," she said.
I was not the only tensed person, I noticed the look of suspicion on Alpha Hansel's face, when he looked between Marcus and Juanita. My husband was shifting uncomfortably, like he was in a hurry for us to leave and go unto the next couple. "How did you both know each other again?" I asked, my eyes narrowing, when Marcus gave me a side glance. I raised a brow at Juanita who was smirking at me and never had I felt like screwing out someone else's eyeballs and feeding them to the owner. I scowled back, my hand tightly clutching Marcus arm untill I heard him wince. I no longer needed some prophet to tell me what was going on. Given my husband's infamous reputation, I should have figured that she was one of his past conquest! "If you will excuse me," I gritted out, no longer bothering to hide my irritation. I was no longer interested in knowing how they met, as I started to pull Marcus away. "I would like to snatch my husband for some minutes!"
