Auctioned Mates Revenge -
Chapter 80
Matt's POV
"H-Hello?" Renda's voice came through the speaker.
I shuddered with relief, "I'm coming to get you Renda. Get out of the house if you can."
"O-Okay. Okay. W-We'll do our best."
"Teagan is here," Emoni said.
"We can't leave yet..." Renda said.
"Why not?" I hissed into the phone, but I heard nothing. She hadn't been speaking to me. "Hello? Renda?"
The phone disconnected and my heart lurched. I heard Felix come up behind me.
"If you want to stay, you'll need to replace a way home," I said.
"Thank the moon," Felix said. "Quick. Mordecai left the floor a few minutes ago."
Felix and I slipped out of the party telling someone on staff that there was an emergency I needed to take care of. There was no way I was going to stay at Mordecai's party like this. Warhammer Guard might get there soon, but I would be right behind them. A car that wasn't mine pulled in front of me and the window rolled down. Mordecai looked up at me.
"Your guards called Midnight's police to report a kidnapping. I thought you might be ready to go and in no state to drive."
I didn't agree with him, but I got into the car, climbing into the passenger seat as Felix slipped into the back. Gordon was seated in the back looking pale.
"I've gotten a report that they're following Warhammer Guards to the place where the tracking beacon on one of your cars is. It's Justin Ashbrook's house." I nodded, "Grace-"
"Emoni," he corrected. "Did you know that she was his daughter?"
"Yes."
He chuckled, "Then, his request for my help?"
"Did he request it or agree to let you search in front of the woman who has him on a leash?"
He let out a hiss of breath, "You know, little Matt. If I didn't know better, I'd say you were f*****g terrifying."
"Just because you aren't terrified of me doesn't mean I'm not terrifying."
He laughed, "I guess not. You were saying about Emoni?"
"She called to say she was going after them."
"Really?" Mordecai asked, "It seems I learn more and more about you with every moment."
We arrived and Gordon clamored in the car just as my phone began to ring. I answered it.
"Grace?"
"Matt?" Renda's voice came through. Lucas seemed to deflate with relief as I sat back in my seat and closed my eyes. There were so many questions to ask, but I could get them out.
I didn't want to freak her out.
"Are you hurt?"
"... a little."
"You don't know what that means. And Grace?"
"... a little."
I grit my teeth, "I'll kill him."
"They're dead," her voice was hollow.
"What?"
"Justin, Andrew, Teagan, and Calvin... Megan too. G-Greyson's here."
What the hell had happened? I rubbed my head, "We'll be there soon. Mordecai is driving us. Gordon is with us."
"Okay."
"I'll be there soon, Renda."
She sighed a little, "Could you... stay on the line please?"
"Whatever you want."
She sounded cold. I heard the sound of a paramedic's voice. I heard Emoni and another voice as well, but Renda didn't say anything. I didn't need her to. It was such a relief to hear her breathing and know that maybe she simply needed a connection to me too. When we pulled up, there were Warhammer Guard cars and paramedics there. Midnight's police officers were hanging around looking as though they didn't know what to do.
"It's a f*****g bloodbath in there."
I saw Chloe seated in the back of a Midnight paramedic's truck, wrapped in a blanket and staring up at the moon. Greyson was seated in the grass, staring up at the moon as well. But I didn't see Emoni or Renda. "Where are you?" I asked into the phone, scanning the area.
"In a Warhammer truck," she said. "Grace is with me."
"Take this man to see his daughter," Mordecai said behind me. "Emoni. She goes by Grace."
The officer nodded and escorted Gordon away. Mordecai came up to me and place a hand on my shoulder.
"I'm sure you want to go and replace your Renda, but I'll need your presence for a bit."
I clenched my jaw wanting to tell him to f**k off.
"Stay," Renda said. "Gordon's here. We're fine."
"Are you sure?"
"It's important. It's not over."
I didn't like her priorities, but I agreed. It wasn't over. Lucas wanted nothing more than to go replace her. Her scent was strong enough that I knew she wasn't far, but the smell of blood and gunpowder still lingered in the air. I turned to Felix, "Find Renda and Grace for me."
He blinked and startled looking at me before flashing me a nervous smile and nodded.
"You got it."
A car pulled up and Ben stepped out, his brow furrowing as he charged toward me. "What have you-"
"Ben," Mordecai said calmly, leaning against the hood of his car. "Do remember whose territory you're in."
He turned and looked at Mordecai. He glared at me before going towards Mordecai.
"I got a call from Megan that got cut short. She said Teagan was hurt.""
"They're both dead," Mordecai said coolly.
"Dead?" Ben almost sounded horrified before he glared at me, "This doesn't concern you."
"I say it does," Mordecai said, "As the owner of the business where Miss Renda was kidnapped, Grace's employer, and the owner of the car parked over there. Matt is a witness and part of the negotiations as head of Warhammer's industry. I'd think you want him here." "Negotiations for what?"
"Grace, Renda, and Chloe all say that Teagan, Calvin, Justin, and their associates got into a fight after abducting Renda from Club Heaven. Teagan was planning to kill Grace to ensure a hold over her father, Gordon Zima. Justin assisted in kidnapping Renda and Calvin ordered it in retaliation to Club Heaven's rising popularity."
Ben's eyes widened, "What?"
"They said that they were working on your orders," Mordecai chuckled. "Though it got a bit messy when Teagan realized that Calvin had plans to take Blue Ice from her, and possibly her territory as well."
Ben's jaw dropped, "That's ridiculous. I-"
"Justin however mentioned Wade, which I can only assume is where this issue stemmed. "
"Wade would never," Ben said shaking his head. Though I could hear his heart starting to race in fear. "Teagan has lost her mind."
"Oh, I know," Mordecai said, "She lost her life too, but as you have the closest political ties to both packs, it becomes a negotiation. They've committed several crimes in my territory. While they're dead, that doesn't undo what's been done."
"Of course not," Ben said, shaking his head. "I would expect nothing less."
"Interpack Issues are best resolved between the nearest alphas," Sean said. "It would be a big help if it doesn't have to go to court."
"I agree," Ben said a bit stiffly. Watching him squirm was more satisfying than I thought it would be. "What seems reasonable for all of this trouble? I'm more than willing to take your lead on it, Mordecai."
He was full of shit, but hearing him have to backtrack his plans and being so caught off guard was the highlight of the night. Mordecai's smile was almost serene.
"Let's see... Murder, multiple counts, conspiracy against an alpha, assault, and kidnapping... Disrupting a perfectly good evening otherwise? I think I'm in standing to annex Skyfall and Frost Melt as it is currently." Ben went stiff as Mordecai looked at me, "Of course, I'm not entirely sure what the hell is up there besides the whiskey. Matt, about that consultation contract, is it too late to expand it a little farther? I'll throw in Sinner's Haven and whatever you think will be useful to your endeavors here on the west coast." I nodded as Ben looked at me pointedly, "Seems fair given how much I stand to make. I'll get the contract redrafted, and of course, I'll keep said endeavors and whatever they may be separate from Warhammer."
Mordecai nodded and looked at Ben, "What say you, Ben?"
Ben clenched his jaw before giving a slow nod, "It is reasonable given the trouble Teagan has caused. What of the murder charges?"
"Self-defense as far as I'm concerned," Mordecai shrugged. "Kidnapping and all. Matt, would you mind taking care of Chloe? I don't suppose you'll mind another waitress or something?"
It seemed like Sinner's Haven would be mine. It was the least he could do given how it all turned out and it probably irked Ben to death.
I grinned at him, "I'm sure I'll replace a job for her."
"Good to hear," he looked at Sean, "Draft it up how you need to and we'll settle it all officially in the morning. For now, my officers will finish with the basic clean-up."
I turned and lifted my phone, "I'll make a call to get the Warhammer Guard up to secure and survey the area. They should be there by Wednesday."
It was a lie. They were already on their way and would get there before Mordecai would let Ben escape his presence to hiss orders into a phone. I shook hands with Sean and Mordecai letting them know to call if they needed anything and walked away with a grin. Finally free of them, Emoni spoke, "That was cleaner than I expected."
"Where's Renda?"
"Still here. You can't miss us."
I rounded a few vehicles and found Emoni and Rena seated in the back of a Warhammer paramedic truck. Felix was leaning against one side of it, speaking to a paramedic. Gordon had his arm wrapped around Emoni's shoulders as if letting her go would mean he would never see her again.
I did my best to walk to Renda. She looked up at me with sad hollow eyes. Within a few moments, she was plastered to me, wrapping her arms around me and crying silent tears. I stroked her hair and held her gently. "You're safe now," I said, gently.
I wanted to hope that she would want to go back to Warhammer and let me handle everything from here, but I couldn't speak. I pressed a kiss to Renda's head. She looked up at me and leaned up, brushing our lips together and I lunged forward, kissing her desperately as the fear of knowing she had been taken seemed to gush out of me. She let me, clinging to me and for a few moments, everything was perfect.
I looked at Renda in my arms. she was the best presence in my life. We have been through so much together. She has changed her hatred and suspicion of me into love and tenderness. We got through a lot of difficulties, but it still wasn't over. We still believe that we can go on forever.
