Auctioned Mates Revenge -
Chapter 87
Matt's POV
She looked up at me. Her jaw dropped open at the frustration in his voice.
"Until then, let's hope we don't continue like this," I sighed, "I swear, the next thing we know, we'll be walking in on Mordecai." She grimaced, "I don't think I would enjoy that."
I lifted an eyebrow and her face reddened. She looked away, "Well, I meant..."
"You said what you meant," I smirked. "I'll be sure to... arrange more voyeuristic opportunities for us in the future."
She went to the door, "I'm going to change clothes."
"Let me know if you need help."
She looked back at me, "Help?"
"Your shoulder. Isn't it still tense?"
Her eyes widened. She had likely forgotten about it. She nodded.
"I'll... try to replace something easy to put on."
It wasn't warm out, but there might be a button-up sweater somewhere in her closet. As soon as I changed, I went to replace her.
I knocked on the door and she opened it, grimacing up at me.
"Too much?"
She nodded and stepped aside and I realized she hadn't even been able to open the heavy dresser drawers.
"Sit. I'll replace you something."
It was new that she was accepting my help and amazing. Glenda Fluorite was my mate. I found a pair of jeans and a warm sweater and helped her into them.
She was oddly shy, flustered about us being so close. I tried not to make it worse, but Lucas revealed in her scent and the warmth of her skin.
I pulled her close as gently as possible and turned my face into her neck. She leaned into me.
Mark her.
I pressed a kiss to her neck and pulled away.
She was in no position to be marked. The bruises on her face were still there.
I wish I had been the one to kill whoever had put them there.
Now that I thought about it, no one had said much about what had happened that night.
"Let's hope they're done."
She laughed as I threaded our hands together and led her out of the room.
Touissant wasn't there but Tzipporah was lounging on the couch freshly showered, glowing, and in workout clothes.
"Any chance we'll start training soon?" Tzipporah asked.
"We'll talk about it... Among other things."
Touissant came down the hallway, drying his hair. Our gazes met. His eyes flashed and for the first time since I met him, I realized that his eyes were always flashing. "Matt..."
"Stop suppressing your wolf before you kill yourself."
His eyes widened, "It's... not like that."
"Oh?"
"Yves is..." he chuckled, "A real character. You think Lucas is bad? Yves has two settings: horny and furious."
"Sounds like you two were made for each other," I quipped and looked at Tzipporah. "Can you shift?"
"Of course."
"Not just for show?"
She smiled, "There's nothing just for show about me."
Touissant growled, "Z, please, don't get him started."
Tzipporah wiggled her eyebrows and stood, "I take it we're going to Club Heaven to regroup?"
I nodded and pulled out my phone to call Emoni and we headed out.
When we arrived, my phone rang with a call from Mordecai. I cursed, I'd forgotten about that part of the plan. "Hello?"
"Are you headed to Club Heaven by any chance?"
"Yes."
"Great. I'm sending Stephen in my place to talk next moves. There are some things I have to take care of. Be nice to him and try not to let him hype you up on chocolates."
I scoffed and hung up as he cackled. It had been a long time since Stephen had been caught slipping Joel and me chocolate. My lips twitched with a fondness for the memory.
It wasn't often I could think back to my childhood and laugh.
Emoni, Grayson, and Gordon were already there. I told the staff to show Stephen up to the conference room when he arrived and got everyone settled around the table. Stephen arrived a few minutes later.
"There's a lot to do and not a lot of time to do it in. Emoni, I'm sending you to Frost Pelt with your father and Grayson. Warhammer Guard has already secured the territory, I just need you to figure out the state of affairs up there." Gordon grinned, "You're my favorite obscenely rich person."
Emoni snorted, "Yes, yes, Dad. All dreams do come true."
"Tzipporah and Touissant will head down south to Blooming Vibes. I think it's about time to unseat that idiot and get someone sensible as alpha."
"Touissant?" Emoni asked.
His lips twitched, "Long story."
"Glenda and I will head to Skyfall with Mordecai."
"Sounds solid," Tzipporah said. "Though I'd like at least a few hours with Emoni and Glenda."
Emoni laughed and Glenda scowled at her.
"You've got it. There's an empty room down the hall. I'll send a guard to meet you."
She jumped to her feet, "Let's go, ladies."
Glenda and Emoni followed Tzipporah out.
"Be careful of your injuries."
Glenda nodded, bashfully and I heard Tzipporah coo at her.
I sat and looked at Touissant, "Start from the beginning."
His lips twitched, "Flooding is the name of the game in Gulf Waves, but we always had preparations. There's no way to prepare for a full-on invasion."
He sat back and pulled out a cigarette, lighting it. The scent of his calming blend filled the air. I had always thought he had anxiety. I had never guessed he was just fighting to stay calm.
"They came and killed everyone. My Dad put me on a boat with a few other kids. They shot at us. The boat capsized. A storm came, and now I avoid the ocean at all costs."
He took a long drag, his eyes were glowing now, "Fireashe took over my family's businesses and land and everyone I've ever known is dead. I registered with a different first name and did my best to survive. I didn't plan to meet and befriend you, Matt. I didn't even know who you were until Ben showed up at graduation."
I remembered how quickly he'd turned pale and ducked his head. I thought it was just nerves. Though as far as I was concerned, there was nothing worth being nervous about when dealing with Ben.
The alpha of Fireash, Xavier, was a nervous wreck from what I remembered, but knowing that he was basically on a short leash made sense. He didn't have the guts to do what Ben had done. "Revenge was never on your list."
He chuckled, "I'm a lover, not a fighter. Yves, however, wants to rip Fireashe's alpha to shreds."
"You might get your chance."
Tzipporah, Glenda, and Emoni returned a few hours later. Glenda looked exhausted and practically poured herself into my lap, panting.
"She has no mercy."
"Mercy is the enemy of survival."
I cradled her in my lap and smiled, "I'm sure you did fine."
"She did better than I expected with those injuries," Tzipporah said. "She's a quick study."
I could only imagine.
Glenda leaned into me and started dozing off. When Stephen said that Mordecai would meet us at the airport, we headed out.
Glenda was still asleep so I carried her onto the plane. Mordecai's gaze followed me, but it didn't feel nefarious. I didn't know what to think of it. It seemed almost warm, paternal. He'd always had a strangely paternal disposition towards me even if I did think he was insane. Glenda remained sleeping for most of the flight and we didn't speak.
When we arrived at Skyfall, I didn't know what to say. In place of a city, there were just a bunch of warehouses and a plant with no machinery. The airport looked more like a cargo plane hanger. Maybe it was and the real Skyfall was somewhere else. "Well, isn't this interesting?" Mordecai asked looking around. "Not what I'd expect from a pack capital."
It was weird. We headed to one of the warehouses with a rolling door. Mordecai grabbed the handle and lifted it. Something creaked and snapped before the door rolled up. I stared at him, shocked by the casual show of strength. He didn't even break a sweat. There was no way I could take him in a fair fight. I was stronger than Ben, so why would Ben even try to pick a fight with him?
I supposed Ben never intended to play fair.
He dusted off his hands as we peered inside. I left Glenda at the entrance and walked inside to look. It looked a bit like Blooming Vibes' warehouse. "Glenda?"
There was no answer. I turned back and she was gone.
"Glenda!"
