Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 10
Chapter 10:.
“Good night, Eve. No matter how good yesterday may be, you can never go back to it.
And no matter how hard tomorrow may be, your only option is to move on.” This was Seagull’s good night message to me.
He had been supporting me ever since my family met with terrible misfortune. Until now, I had no idea who he was. But every day he would say goodnight to me, accompanied by wise words.
In those difficult days, his constant comfort and wise words gave me warmth and courage.
And what he said today totally matches my current state of mind.
He was right; no matter how difficult tomorrow may be, I must keep going.
“Thank you, Seagull,” I replied. I didn’t mention what had happened to me today.
Unexpectedly, she replied, “It’s very late, why are you still up?”.
I looked at the time and realized it was already two o’clock in the morning. Indeed, it was late.
“I went to a friend’s birthday party, took my time and came home late, what about you?
Why are you still awake?”
“I didn’t get a reply from you, so I was worried,” he replied.
Holding back my tears, I sent him a smiley emoji. “I’m fine. Good night.” He then sent me a sticker that said “good night.”
But even after I said goodnight to him, I couldn’t close my eyes for the rest of the night.
Everything that happened tonight was like a nightmare that I wished I could forget.
But even then, those horrible scenes kept replaying in my mind like scenes out of a movie.
The thought of Shane’s cruelty when he aborted my child, his cruelty and his hurtful words, broke my heart into pieces.
After several hours of mental struggle, I decided to go to the hospital today. Even though I felt very uncomfortable getting up, and even though I knew I might meet Shane there, I had to go to the hospital. Avoiding him forever was not a solution. I had to face the problem head on. Besides, between the two of us, I wasn’t the one to blame. I wasn’t supposed to be the one hiding.
As Seagull said, no matter how difficult tomorrow would be, I had to move forward.

Regardless of what might happen with my relationship with Shane, I had to keep visiting my mother. I might lose a husband, but I would never allow myself to lose my mother. She was the only family I had left in the world.
She used to be a nurse who worked at Virtue Hospital. When I walked in, my former colleagues, who had grown accustomed to my bulging belly, looked at me in surprise. “Eveline, have you given birth yet?” one of my colleagues said.
“But that’s impossible. I seem to recall that your due date is supposed to be in September,” commented another.
“Oh, no… it could be that…”
I wasn’t in the mood to deal with these hypocrites, so I said nothing. I merely smiled weakly at them before stepping into the elevator.
When I came out of it, I saw a bunch of pregnant women. I realized that I had pressed the button for the third floor out of habit.
The third floor was the obstetrics and gynecology department, Shane’s office was there too.
It was still before business hours, so his office door was closed. However, some people were already lining up in the hallway with registration forms. There was a young couple sitting on a nearby bench. They had their heads together and were looking at the B ultrasound report in the pregnant woman’s hand
“He only weighs 1300 grams. It’s very small.”
The man touched his wife’s belly and smiled. “Our son is still small right now, but he will grow. In time, he will.”
Seeing this, I felt as if my feet had frozen.
I really envied them. Although I had mentally prepared myself before coming here, seeing such a warm scene still shocked me.
Not wanting to expose my vulnerability to people, I ran to the bathroom and locked myself in a small cubicle before my tears could fall.
Not long after I entered the bathroom, someone came in as well and closed the door.
“It’s almost time for work! We shouldn’t be doing this!”
“Oh, come on, Vivien! I miss you every second I can’t see you. I’m so addicted to you,” a man said.
I was petrified listening to him. The man was exactly Shane.
When he said the name ‘Vivien’, I finally knew who that bitch was!
At Virtue Hospital, there was only one woman named Vivien. She was Vivien Gentry, from the anesthesiology department. The anesthesiology department as well as the obstetrics and gynecology department worked hand in hand, so it was no wonder they became friends. But I never imagined they would be close enough to have an affair.
“Shane, where do you think Eveline is now? She’s been missing, hasn’t she?”
“Not a clue. But sooner or later, she’ll come to this hospital. After all, her mother is still here,” Shane said.
He knew me well. I grimaced.
“Ah, that’s right! Shane, there’s no need to be afraid. Your family is not powerful. There’s nothing he can do to you,” Vivien commented.
“Yes. What he needs from me is money. As long as I pay him alimony, I’m sure he’ll divorce me.”
“I’ve been waiting a long time, Shane! You can’t make me wait any longer. Divorce her as soon as you can,” she pleaded.
“Don’t worry, Vivien. I won’t let you down,” he replied.
Such a firm promise! It was ridiculous that he had told me the same thing.
Were men’s promises really that shitty?
Not long after, they started having sex like animals.
I clenched my fists, wanting to storm out of the cubicle and embarrass them. But seeing something so problematic would also make me feel ashamed.
So I had no choice but to endure the sound of their horrible moaning.
At this point, I really wished I was deaf.
Suddenly, my phone started ringing and I was frightened by it.
