Chapter 101:.

Not long after Aaron had left, Shane arrived bringing breakfast. “Eveline, I brought you something to eat.” He then placed the food on the bedside table.

I looked at him like he was a beast. After all, this man had never been so considerate of me.

Shane probably understood what I was thinking based on my reaction. A slight smile appeared on his face. “What’s the matter, are you surprised? Eve, I’m serious about starting over with you.”

This time, I gave him a look with mixed feelings in my heart.

If he had treated me like this when we were together, we never would have ended up like this. Unfortunately, he had already hurt me beyond recovery. My love for him had now turned to hate, and I would never change back.

“You must know that Derek has bad intentions toward you,” she added.

“Don’t talk about him in front of me,” I replied sharply. After that, I said nothing more.

“Eveline, please think about my offer. I’ll wait for your answer for as long as it takes,” Shane said.

I continued without saying anything. Once he had left, I still couldn’t calm down.

He told me that Derek had bad intentions, but whatever Shane was doing right now was no doubt just for revenge. I wasn’t stupid. I could tell that was his intention all along.

It bothered me to have been caught up in their pathetic feud. It made me wonder what they must think of me. Maybe to them, I was nothing.

After I was discharged from the hospital, I moved back to my old house in Louise. Derek didn’t come to see me and never logged back into his WhatsApp account ‘A cat who likes to eat fish’.

Now, apart from our marriage certificate, we were like strangers.

On the other hand, I was meeting frequently with Aaron. After all, we now worked at the same hospital. I would always run into him when I went to lunch in the hospital cafeteria.

He would always sit with me, which made a lot of women hate me. He would even help me pick the cilantro off my plate without saying a word. Normally, something like that would only happen between a couple. But still, he did it so naturally.

“How did you know I didn’t like cilantro?” I asked, visibly surprised.

Aaron smiled and said nonchalantly, “Most women hate the taste of it. I was just guessing.”

Your imagination begins with gαℓησν𝒆𝓁s﹒ç𝗈𝗺

“You guessed right,” I muttered.

When I looked up, I noticed that many envious and hateful glances were directed at me.

If things went on like this, I might not be able to continue working here.

So, the next day, I made sure to go to the cafeteria a little later.

Fortunately, there weren’t many people left.

Once I bought my food, I headed to the drink counter to buy a drink.

“What do you want to drink? My treat.” A familiar voice reached my ears. When I turned around, I saw Shane standing behind me with a plate in his hands. After he said that, I didn’t take anything.

The moment I sat down, someone put a bottle of cocaine in front of me. It turned out to be Shane, and he sat down across from me.

Two nurses at a nearby table had just finished eating. As they got up and took their plates away, one of them walked past me. That nurse’s plate swayed and some leftover food splashed on me.

“Oh, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean for that to happen,” the nurse said.

She sounded sincere. Even though I knew she had done it on purpose, I couldn’t blame her for what she had done. So, I told her it was okay.

Shane got up, came over to my side and wiped me with a tissue.

“I can do it myself.” I’d rather he didn’t touch me.

But Shane kept insisting on helping me clean my clothes. However, the oil stains were not like water. The stains on my clothes were too obvious and it was difficult to clean them.

Suddenly, someone handed me a white coat. When I turned around, I saw Aaron.

“Here, put this on,” he said.

I took the robe from him. Then, he put down his plate and sat down next to me. Then he took the bottle of coke from me and replaced it with a bottle of milk.

“You shouldn’t drink too much soda. Otherwise you’ll get osteoporosis,” he commented.

Shane returned to his seat, frowning.

Moments later, Aaron began to eat his food. I glanced sideways at him, wondering if he knew I was hiding from him.

“Why are you so late?” I asked, making it sound like a casual question.

After swallowing a mouthful of food, Aaron chuckled. “Yeah, it’s a coincidence, isn’t it? You’re late too.”

Shane seemed to feel uncomfortable and left out, so he immediately went on his way.

During the meal, many nurses were putting fruit in front of Aaron. Soon, grapes and apples were piled up in front of him.

I was sitting next to him, but everyone ignored me. The fact that I was being treated like air made me feel very depressed.

Moments later, Aaron handed me one of the apples. Afraid of the consequences, I waved my hand in refusal.

“Please don’t do that. I’ve already made too many enemies because of you. Doing that will be the nail in my coffin.”
