Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 15
Chapter 15:.
During this recovery period, Louise would often visit me for a chat. And every time, she would bring me a nourishing soup. All the wounds in my body could heal, but the void left by my failed marriage could not heal so easily. Even if that wound would heal someday, it would still leave a scar on my heart.
Shane called me several times, but not once did I respond. Every time I saw his name flashing on my phone screen, it felt like my wounded heart was being wounded all over again.
The truth is, I didn’t want to remember what that bastard did to me. Every time I remembered it, it felt like my heart and soul itself was being torn apart. It was a very painful process for me, almost akin to torture.
And since he couldn’t get through to me, Shane came straight to my house.
The moment I opened the door and saw him, I was about to throw him in his face without a word. But then, he reached out to hold the door.
“Eveline, we have to get a divorce. It wouldn’t be good for either of us to delay this.”
He was wrong. He was the one who would suffer if this divorce was delayed. After all, his damned wife was pregnant.
The more anxious he got, the less he did. Just the thought of upsetting him instilled joy in my heart.
“Shane, if you want to have fun with your shitty wife, have at it. But don’t even think about convincing me to sign the divorce agreement. Once her belly grows, we’ll see who people will despise; me or her.”
After that, I slammed the door in his face. Shane kept calling and calling my name for a while, but I ignored him completely. Later, Louise came in and I told her how it turned out. She praised me for what I did.
“Eve, stall him as long as you can. After all, you’re in no hurry to marry another man. You can do whatever you want. Make him mad as long as you can. That bitch is dying to marry Shane, but you’re going to make her suffer. Don’t give her the satisfaction of being able to wear a wedding dress. If everyone replaces out she’s destroyed another woman’s marriage, she’ll be criticized by the public.”
Louise’s words made perfect sense. It was true that she had to be tough. When I thought about what had happened, I realized that, apart from the fact that I had no powerful family background, another reason why Shane and Vivien were pushing me so blatantly was because I used to be a coward.
So, whether it was for revenge or just so they wouldn’t bully me again, it was time for me to change.
During Valentine’s Day, Louise visited me and brought me some new clothes. She told me she wanted to take me out for a walk. I actually preferred not to go, but I couldn’t change her mind, so I had to put on the clothes she had bought me.
Once I was almost done, I heard a knock at the door, followed by Louise’s cursing.
“Shane Hayes, what the hell do you think you’re doing here, did you come here to get your ugly face pasted on?”
Right after I said that, I heard the sound of a face being punched. Hastily, I zipped up my dress and stepped outside. That’s when I saw Shane, crouched down and turned to the side, motionless.
Louise had studied taekwondo, and it wouldn’t be surprising if she landed a powerful punch on him.
“That punch was for Eve, Shane. I’m telling you, I’ve trained my fist just so I can punch scumbags like you.”
Shane finally stood up, wiped the blood from the corner of his lips and gave me a look. Time to settle the matter.
“Eveline, it’s a disagreement.”
He was pretty good at picking a date, I must say. He had chosen to talk to me about our divorce during Valentine’s Day.
“Fuck you, Shane, get the fuck out of here and stay as far away as possible!” growled Louise.
Then, she pushed me away from Shane, and shoved Shane.
“Stay out of my way!”
That’s when she put her arm around my shoulders. “Come on, Eve! Let’s go have some fun. We’ll replace some handsome men to play with. If you end up liking any of them, get a room and sleep with them! That scum won’t be able to stop you anyway.”
Naturally, I wasn’t going to do what Louise had said, but her bold words had turned me on, especially when I rounded the corner and saw the disgust written all over Shane’s face. I couldn’t have been happier.
Later, Louise took me to a hairdresser to get my hair done. I looked in the mirror and saw that they had waved my hair half-length. It gave me a very modern look.
As I looked in the mirror, Louise commented, “Look at that! I knew you would look beautiful with a little sprucing up. You’re going to make all those men notice you today.”
Then she took me to a bar called Blue Sky.
I rarely visited such places. The sound of the raucous music and flashing neon lights made me very uncomfortable.
With her arm around my shoulders, Louise passed through the dancing crowd.
Occasionally, people whistled at us.
“Try to be more open, Eve,” she told me as we walked. “You can even do the same thing that jerk did to you! Have some fun. If you like any man here, go and flirt with him.”
Awkwardly, I walked as I paced around uneasily. Suddenly, I was stunned when I caught sight of a familiar face.
There were two women and three men sitting in a nearby VIP booth, and one of them was Derek.
