Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 160
Chapter 160:.
When we got home, Aaron had already prepared dinner. Since I was uncomfortable during dinner, I went back to our room after a few bites.
Just as I was starting to fall asleep, I was awakened by someone’s weight on me.
When I opened my eyes, I saw Derek leaning close to me. He was kissing my forehead, eyes, nose and lips.
I wasn’t in the mood for sex, so I pushed him away. “Stop it.”
He ignored the fact that I was resisting his advances. I started to feel anxious, so I pushed him away harder. “Derek, stop it! I said no.” I coughed and said awkwardly, “I’m on my period.”
Derek was stunned. He looked like he couldn’t believe it.
“Really?”
“You think I’d lie to you about this?”
He got up from me, scratching his hair in frustration. “I’m going to take a cold shower,” he said.
Before he could leave, I stopped him. “You’re going to catch a cold if you take a cold shower. The weather is cold today.”
Derek looked at me, forcing a helpless smile.
“The cold water will be able to quell my burning desire,” he commented.
Soon I heard the sound of running water coming from the bathroom. I stared at the bathroom door, feeling a little bad for him.
By the time he came out, I was still awake from the pain coming from my lower abdomen.
In the dim light, I looked at his muscular body and saw the scar on his waist.
He lifted the quilt and lay a little away from me.
Her naked upper body still looked a little damp, because she had just gotten out of the shower.
From under the quilt, I ran my hand slowly down to her abdomen.

“Stop,” he said, grabbing my hand and seemingly rejecting my advance. This time, it was he who stopped me.
I ignored his words and touched his scar. “How did you get the scar?” he stared at the ceiling. I noticed his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down, and he seemed to be organizing his thoughts as he recalled the past. “Lean stabbed me with a knife.”
I was surprised to hear that.
“What, why did he do that, aren’t they supposed to be brothers? Your mothers may be different, but you’re still blood relatives, aren’t you?”
Derek smiled, but I could see a trace of desolation in his smile.
“My relationship with Lean is very different than what you’re thinking. We don’t share a brotherly bond. When his mother married my father, he was already twelve years old. At that time, we didn’t like each other and we were as incompatible as ice and fire.”
I was confused-why did Derek help take care of Lean’s wife then? And why did he give money to his brother? That just meant he still valued Lean as a brother, didn’t it?
“At that time, we often clashed. Men express their emotions directly, often leading to violent disagreements. Because of that, we almost always punched each other in every fight. Shortly after my father took him home, we got into a fight. That’s when he stabbed me with a fruit knife. The cut wasn’t deep or fatal, but this scar could last a lifetime. That’s why my grandfather didn’t want me to stay with my father any longer and insisted on letting me live with him.”
Twelve-year-old boys were impulsive and rebellious by nature, but I was surprised to hear that Lean was reckless enough to stab his stepbrother with a knife. Was it really recklessness? Was it ignorance? Or maybe he was just cold-blooded by nature?
Then, I remembered the time I saw Lean in jail.
He was no longer a rebellious twelve-year-old, but he was still arrogant and unruly to the bone; almost as if he was born to be that way.
“Did he end up in jail for assaulting someone? Or did he commit murder or something that serious?” I asked him.
When I asked the question during the day, Derek didn’t answer me.
But this time he hugged me, gently sniffing my hair. It took him a while to answer my question.
“When he was caught, he was found in possession of cocaine, and his accomplices stated that he was involved in drug trafficking.” This story was very similar to my experience in Goldelta.
“How could he appeal for freedom even though there are several eyewitnesses and testimonies against him, and material evidence? It’s impossible to get out of that one,” YoYo commented.
“His alibi is that he was carrying the drug without his knowledge,” said Derek.
Obviously, the alibi seemed implausible to me. If he was carrying cocaine without knowing it, why did he wait until now to file an appeal?
Was it because he had realized he was now a father and wanted to fulfill his parental duties?
But when I remembered the coldness with which he behaved that day in jail, I thought he probably had another reason.
It made me wonder what he would do to Tina and his daughter if he got out of jail sooner.
As time went on, I ran out of energy to talk. Also, the pain coming from my belly was getting more and more intense. My whole body was shaking as I tried to endure it, and Derek was quick to notice.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
I shook my head, biting my lower lip. “Nothing, I’m just having period pains.”
“How bad is it? Don’t force yourself to endure it if you can’t. Come on, I’m taking you to the hospital.”
It seemed like he was really worried about me, so I got excited.
I told him there was no need to go to the hospital, but he still got out of bed.
After leaving the room for a few moments, he returned, followed by Aaron.
“If you don’t want to go to the hospital, fine.
We have a doctor at home anyway,” Derek said. I was speechless.
Soon the bedroom light came on. Aaron sat on the edge of my bed, scowling at me.
“Where’s the pain coming from, and why are you so pale?” he asked.
Flustered, I looked at Derek and mumbled, “My lower belly hurts.”
Aaron looked me up and down before saying, “Are you on your period?”
I didn’t expect him to be so blunt, so I was caught off guard. I felt embarrassed by the question.
“How did you know?” asked Derek.
Aaron stood up and smiled at him.
“I’m a doctor,” he commented.
After that, he walked out. Moments later, he returned with a cup of tea in his hand.
“Here. Have some ginger tea, Eveline. It will make you feel better.”
Accepting the cup, I took in the pungent smell of steam.
“Thank you” I was too embarrassed to have them around while I was on my period.
After drinking the ginger tea, I gradually felt comfortable enough to fall asleep.
