Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 193
Chapter 193:.
My heart sank. “I’m sure the woman Derek likes isn’t bad. But she seems so ordinary. Did we get the wrong woman?” another man asked.
“Maybe she’s really good in bed,” said another man, sounding sarcastic.
They burst out laughing again. A frigid smile appeared on the face of the man fiddling with his dagger. “We didn’t kidnap the wrong woman.”
I was surprised to learn that they had planned for this to happen.
Doing business was like fighting a war, and making enemies was inevitable. I didn’t want to be Derek’s weakness.
The vehicle was moving as fast as if it were a wild horse without reins. Just when I felt like throwing up, it finally stopped.
The moment I stepped out of the car, I shivered from the wind chill.
At that moment, we were on a hillside near a luxurious villa.
After being dragged inside the villa, I noticed that the lights inside were coming on one after another. Soon, the whole villa was illuminated.
Once inside, I was thrown on a sofa as if I were a sack of potatoes.
Then they had a few drinks, started smoking, turned on the TV and played cards. It was like that was their way of life.
“Call Derek and ask him if he misses his wife,” the quiet man said as he took a cigarette out of his pack.
Someone picked up a phone to call. “Derek Sullivan, it’s going to cost you more than a gas refill to pick up your wife today.” Right after telling Derek the address, he hung up the phone. He didn’t even know how Derek would react.
While the men waited, they played cards at the coffee table and completely ignored me.
I was on tenterhooks. At the moment, I was just looking forward to seeing my husband again, but at the same time, I was afraid Derek would fall into his trap. I was worried that he would be at the mercy of those hooligans for my sake.
After hours of discomfort in the villa, I heard the sound of a car coming from outside.
One of them left his cards to go to the door. He looked back and said,
“Alvaro, he’s here.”
Alvaro was the man who put a knife in my waistband and kidnapped me. He threw down his cards, looked at me and said to the man next to me, “Take her upstairs.”
I tried to struggle, but in vain. Soon after, the men dragged me upstairs and locked me in a room. I had no idea what was going on downstairs. I couldn’t see or hear anything, and that made me quite upset.
What did they want? I didn’t want Derek to be extorted so easily.
Even though my hands were tied, I could still walk, so I got up, walked over to the window and looked down.
There I saw a Maybach parked in the yard. There was a faint voice coming from the living room, but I could barely make it out. Suddenly, I heard a creaking sound. I started to panic.
Were they fighting? Derek came here alone. There were many enemies here. How was I going to defeat them?
As I was overcome with agitation, I struggled to free myself. My wrists hurt a lot, because the ropes were binding me too tightly. But in the end, I managed to free myself.
I rushed to the door and leaned against it. When I was sure that no one was outside, I gently opened the door. Fortunately, the hallway was empty. As I left the room and reached the staircase, I stopped.
“Derek, I’m surprised you’re willing to take a chance on a beautiful woman.” That was Alvaro’s voice.
Not long after, I heard Derek’s voice next.
“It’s natural for me to protect my wife. If you have something to say, come with everything you’ve got! My wife is a coward. Don’t scare her.” I cautiously poked my head out from the stairs and watched the scene unfold in the living room.
Derek and Alvaro were sitting on a couch of their own and there was a coffee table between them. There were a lot of people on Alvaro’s side, while Derek was alone. But even so, he didn’t look nervous at all.
He was wearing a white shirt and a black suit. His legs were crossed, a cigarette in his hand and he looked very relaxed on the couch. It was as if all this was no big deal to him.
Alvaro laughed, “Ah, not to worry. Like you, I am also a gentleman. If you want to see your wife first, then this means you don’t have to think too much about my question now, yes?”
I had no idea what Alvaro wanted in return from me, but I figured it must be a request that Derek was reluctant to agree to. Evidently, this must be the reason Alvaro and his lackeys had gone to so much trouble. –
Personally, I didn’t want Derek to compromise so easily.
“Derek, don’t agree to whatever that man says!” I hurried down the stairs, oblivious to the danger.
But the moment I took the last step, two of Alvaro’s men caught me.
