Chapter 196:

Felix felt irritated by the pair of burning eyes staring at him incessantly. I feared he would lose his temper if he failed to grasp the situation.

I hastily stood up and said, “Mr. Larson.”

When Felix heard that I had greeted the man so politely, he was a little surprised and also a little nervous. Colin Larson nodded at me and returned Felix’s gaze with his piercing stare.

“Louise, did you jump off the building because of her?” he asked.

Louise jumped off the building?

The rumor was getting more and more absurd.

Louise snorted and asked, “Dad, do you believe such a rumor?”

“Well, I asked the doctor about your condition. You said it was a rumor. If so, how did you get injured?”. Colin had indeed believed the rumor, so he didn’t want to hear any other explanation.

“Whether you believe it or not is up to you.” Louise and her father had been on bad terms for a long time, and he really wasn’t in the mood to explain what happened at the moment.

“It’s not what you think, Sir,” Felix commented.

“Shut up! I’m talking to my daughter,” Colin shouted. Felix must have noticed that his future father-in-law was clearly displeased with him. Although he had wanted to explain himself, Colin cut him off.

“I will instruct the doctor to move you to a separate ward without further delay!”. Colin announced his decision firmly.

Louise shot her father an indifferent look.

“How come you suddenly care so much about me?”. Colin looked at Louise helplessly and struggled to remain calm and composed.

“You are my daughter. Of course, I naturally care about you.

If I’m not going to worry about you, who should I worry about?” Something came to Louise’s mind.

“Oh, I get it. Now you’re worried about me because that bitch dumped you and now you have no one else to worry about?” If they continued to communicate in this toxic manner, the only outcome could be a draw.

I immediately interrupted their discussion. “It’s a good idea for Lulu to stay here. I can take care of her. Don’t worry, Mr. Larson.”

Colin insisted on standing firm on principle, so he said to Felix without sugarcoating it, “Young man, you and my daughter are not right for each other.”

“Why not? I’m his wife now. It’s none of your business,” Louise replied.

What Louise had said left me momentarily dumbfounded.

At that point, Felix had no idea what to say. He couldn’t be sure whether Colin believed Louise’s words or not. Either way, he was absolutely furious.

In the end, he stormed off with an angry expression on his face. Obviously, Colin tried to stop Louise and Felix from being together.

Felix was still scratching his head in confusion. “Your father hasn’t told me why he is unhappy with me. I can make the necessary changes to be better,” Felix said.

“Don’t bother. You’re not with him,” Louise said and glared at Felix.

When Felix went to the bathroom, I asked Louise if it was true that she had already slept with him.

She looked at me with a smile on her face. “No, that’s not the case.” She glanced into the bathroom and whispered with embarrassment on her face. “There were several times we almost made love, but in the end we didn’t.”

I thought it must have been Louise who stopped the act halfway through. If a woman repeatedly stopped the sex act in the midst of arousal, the man would lose his mind. Since Felix put up with it, I knew he really loved her.

I left the hospital early that day. As I walked out of the inpatient department building, I saw Colin standing in the courtyard. To my surprise, he had not yet left the hospital.

“Hello,” he said to me. It was obvious that he had waited for me there on purpose. Maybe he wanted to talk to me about Louise.

Without beating around the bush, Colin said, “Eveline, I know you’re Louise’s best friend. She’ll tell you anything and everything.

“She’s dating some jerk from a bar and jumped off the building on purpose. Did she do it to spite me?” I noticed the contempt and loathing that saturated his words.

Derek’s father used to give me that kind of contempt, too. I took a deep breath and said in an even tone, “Felix isn’t a bar jerk, he’s actually the bar owner. He’s outgoing, but don’t judge him so easily. Nowadays, people pursue love openly. After all, it’s not easy for people to replace someone they truly and deeply love. You were also young, strong-minded and desperate. I think, therefore, you can understand this kind of relationship, can’t you?”.

It seemed that Colin considered that my words made sense. He said nothing, but exhaled a heavy, long sigh.

I took the opportunity to persuade him to look at it another way. “I know you don’t get along with Lulu. This is a good opportunity for you to mend your relationship with her. In fact, it’s not that Lulu doesn’t care about you. She’s just stubborn, but she really has you in her heart.”

When I finished the conversation with Colin, he thanked me.

It seemed like he finally understood something. I sincerely hoped that they could manage to make peace with each other soon.
