Chapter 198:.

Later, I saw another acquaintance in line; it was Cindy. She was wearing a simple t-shirt and jeans. Her straight hair cascaded over her shoulders. She wore a peaked cap and a guitar strapped to her back.

She wasn’t as flashy as the flashier rivals, but she looked real and true to herself. She also spotted us and nodded graciously. She gripped the guitar strap and bounced on her heels nervously.

Felix shouted to her, “Come on, Cindy!”.

The contestants began to file into the lobby one after another. Suddenly, Derek grabbed my hand and pulled me toward the studio.

Derek got the VIP tickets, so we sat in the front row. We could take a look at everything on stage from our seats. Considering the large number of participants, they were only allotted a limited time to showcase their talents.

Many tried to perform a little longer. All the participants tried their best to impress the judges. Not only were they dressed well, but they also tried all sorts of strange things to look funny.

The whole studio would burst out laughing from time to time, but I couldn’t concentrate on the audition; my mind was a jumbled mess. My stomach began to churn with anticipation, so I went to the bathroom.

I didn’t know the place, so I asked the staff to direct me to the bathroom. It was a bit far from the studio, and I had to walk around twice to get there.

When I came out of the bathroom, I saw Aaron smoking in the hallway.

I approached him. “Why are you out too?”

“There are too many people inside. It’s stifling, so I went outside to get some fresh air.” I felt the same way too. It was depressing inside.

At that moment, Aaron’s face showed a smile. “Well, there are too many participants, and they all have unique abilities. Some of them make fools of themselves. It’s rare to hear good singing.”

I couldn’t help but laugh at his comment. Neither of us had any intention of going back to the studio. We walked down the hallway and stopped at the glass railing.

“Becky is Sybil’s younger sister,” Aaron finally said, running his hands along the railing. I could tell he was a sensitive person, for he knew what I was thinking.

“Yeah, I figured. She has the same last name as Sybil.”

Looking at the traffic ahead, Aaron sighed and said, “They weren’t from a wealthy family. Sybil had joined as a singer in a bar at such a young age because she wanted to earn money for Becky’s school.

Sybil would take Becky to Sousen during the summer vacations. Becky was only ten years old. I still remember her innocent face.” She smiled at the memory.

“Sybil and Derek were already dating. The Nash Family’s financial situation worsened after Sybil’s death, and Derek had been supporting them. It wasn’t a big deal to him because he was already successful in business.” They all had a history and were striving for a living.

“Derek had always thought of her as a kid,” Aaron said. I knew he was comforting me, but it didn’t make me feel any better.

Eight or nine years ago, she was indeed a child, but now she was far from it. Becky was a grown woman.

“Do you think I’m closed-minded?” I asked, smiling sadly.

Aaron turned around, leaned against the railing and shoved his hands in his pockets. He lowered his head and sighed.

“Everyone is possessive and closed-minded when it comes to love. They’re afraid of losing their better half. I understand what you’re going through, but try not to push Derek too hard. Men need space and trust. Derek is a thorough gentleman, so you have nothing to worry about.”

I realized that Aaron had already read my mind and understood my concern. He had been through a lot at my age.

I knew I wouldn’t do anything impulsive, but Becky’s presence was like a thorn pricking my heart. I wasn’t confident enough to forget her and relax.

When I returned to the studio, a pleasant female voice caught my attention.
