Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 269
Chapter 269:.
It’s been a while since we’ve had this much fun at our house. In fact, I missed having Aaron live with us. He was lively and pleasant. Our house was full of laughter all the time. And most importantly, Aaron was in charge of cooking and I was resting happily.
“How have you been studying?” asked Aaron during dinner.
“Well, I spend the day learning to drive.” I smiled shyly.
“New things happen every day, so I haven’t made any progress. Someone like me who isn’t smart in studies will never become a scholar.” Hearing that, they both laughed.
Derek smiled, “It doesn’t matter if you’re not smart. All you have to do is work hard. You know diligence makes up for stupidity.”
I remembered Alvaro had also told me the same thing. I didn’t know if Derek had talked to Alvaro about anything or if it was some kind of business. But judging by his mood since he got home, I could tell it was nothing serious.
After dinner, Aaron offered to do the dishes. He was always a diligent man. I quickly grabbed the dish and shook my head.
“Forget it. You’d better watch TV. You don’t come around much. I don’t want to exploit you too much.” I quickly washed my dishes and went out.
The two of them were playing chess instead of watching TV. I sat to the side and watched them play. I didn’t want to admit that I didn’t understand the game, so I pretended I did.
Just then, the doorbell rang and I ran to open the door. It was Derek’s father.
I didn’t expect to see him here. We hadn’t seen each other since I exposed that I had used Becky.
Gifford didn’t look well. As soon as I opened the door, he pushed me aside and walked in. His eyes were red with fury. He looked like he wanted to eat someone alive. I sensed something was wrong, so I quickly followed him inside.
Gifford grabbed the fish tank from the cabinet and threw it at Derek. The fishbowl hit Derek’s head and landed on the coffee table before rolling across the floor and shattering into pieces.
Blood dripped from Derek’s forehead. My heart was breaking in my chest. I was so terrified that I rushed to get out a tissue to wipe up the blood.
Derek calmly took my hand and comforted me, “I’m fine.”

Blood was gushing out of his head, how could he tell me he was fine?
“Dude, you…” Aaron jumped to his feet and gave Gifford a confused look.
But Gifford was furious. He frantically glanced around the house looking for something to attack Derek with again.
“If there’s a problem, why don’t you two sit down and talk?”. I plucked up my courage and tried to persuade him, but he turned a deaf ear.
His gaze rested on the bar on Derek’s arm. The next moment, he grabbed it and lunged toward Derek.
How could a father hit his son like that? What could Derek have done to make his father want to beat him to death?
Derek was a strong, muscular man. Gifford was old and had no chance of beating his son. Yet Derek stood there, unmoving, with no intention of dodging or defending himself. It looked like he was ready to accept the attack.
Without thinking, I lunged at Derek to protect him.
