Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 270
Chapter 270:
The arm bar hit my shoulder with full force. Although I was wearing thick clothing to protect me from the cold, it did not protect me from the attack. A sharp pain shot through my shoulder. Moments later, my entire left side went numb.
I bit my lip to keep from crying. The excruciating pain was nothing compared to Derek’s bleeding forehead.
“Eveline!” Derek pulled me into his arms.
I could hear the panic in his voice. I looked up as his blood dripped onto my face.
Gifford, however, was still enraged. He raised his hand to strike Derek again, but Aaron grabbed the rod from his arm in time.
“Dude, calm down.”
Gifford tried to pull it away, but failed miserably. Aaron’s grip was too strong, and the older man had no choice but to surrender. He grunted and pointed a trembling finger at Derek.
“You little brat, put that land back now!”.
I couldn’t understand what he was talking about. Aaron and I exchanged glances. It seemed obvious that Derek knew what his father meant. Blood was still dripping from the wound on his forehead. The calmness of his face gave him an intimidating look.
“The land is already sold; I can’t get it back,” he said calmly.
Perhaps it was his stubbornness that infuriated Gifford. He rushed toward Derek, wanting to assault him with his bare hands. But Aaron grabbed Gifford’s waist from behind.
“Dude, hitting him isn’t going to solve the problem.”
Gifford lifted his leg to kick Derek. However, he couldn’t locate him and ended up hitting the coffee table, causing the cups to shatter on the floor.
Two fish were flailing about on the coffee table. I grabbed my sore shoulder and glanced at Gifford. The situation was out of control.
At that moment, Gifford’s eyes rolled back in his head. He fell back against Aaron, panting.
“Dude, are you okay?” Aaron quickly placed him on the ground.
I was so terrified that my body refused to move; I didn’t know what to do. After mustering up my strength, I quickly ran to him.

In that moment, I completely forgot what Gifford had done to me earlier and just wanted to make sure he was okay. Derek and his father had a complicated relationship, but it wasn’t as bad as tonight.
My body was shaking with fear. Even though Derek didn’t like his father, he still cared about him. After all, his family was important to him. That’s why he didn’t bother to defend himself tonight. If Gifford got hurt or even died because of anger, the guilt would continue to haunt Derek all his life.
“Call an ambulance!” said Aaron.
I pulled out my phone and made a call immediately. The ambulance arrived in less than five minutes. We got in the ambulance and Aaron followed us to the hospital in his car.
The doctor was startled to see the blood on Derek’s head and wanted to treat the wound right away, but Derek insisted that he had to examine his father first.
Gifford got better as soon as we got to the hospital. The doctor asked us about his condition and examined him. We later learned that intense anger and stress had raised his blood pressure, causing him to faint. But the doctor assured us that it was nothing serious.
The doctor gave Derek a knowing look, “Young man, don’t be too impulsive. Sometimes you have to be patient and stick it out.” Derek said nothing.
I knew how patient and resilient he had been tonight. I took Derek to get his wound dressed. As the doctor wiped the blood from his forehead, I saw the wound. The nurse warned him to hold the pain while she applied the medicine to the wound. I understood how painful it must be.
However, Derek did not flinch or frown. His face was expressionless, almost as if he had gone numb. This was not his first head injury. Since I had known him, he had already injured his head twice. This time, however, his father had attacked him.
I couldn’t bear to see him like that. I knew he was strong enough to withstand physical injury.
However, the pain was not in his head, but in his heart.
