Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 417
Chapter 417:
“Eve, I love you. I’ve loved you all my life. I’ve always wanted to tell you this, but I never had the courage to open my feelings. You call me a coward, but I didn’t want to disturb your life. But it breaks my heart to see that you are unhappy. Eve, give me a chance to take care of you. Whether you leave or stay, I want to be with you.”
I slowly slipped out of his arms and stared into his eyes. His words moved me, but I couldn’t do it, “Aaron, you’ve been good to me since I was a little girl. Nothing has changed and I thank you for everything you’ve done for me. But…”
“You don’t have to say anything else. I understand what you mean.”
She took a few steps back, leaned against the railing and stared up at the night sky.
“I knew you would say this, and that’s why I didn’t dare express my love to you. As long as I didn’t express my feelings, I could always protect and care for you as a friend.” He smiled bitterly and turned to look at me.
“Eve, you know what? The wound in your heart is no different than mine. It’s scary. What would have happened to you if you hadn’t called me tonight? You have nowhere to go. Where would you have gone? What are you going to do? I’m very worried about you, Eve.”
Her eyes were shining in the moonlight. Her love and care made me feel special. I was truly grateful that someone cared about me. However, that wasn’t love.
“Aaron, thank you for being so kind to me. But everyone will grow up. I can’t rely on others forever. Even if the road is full of thorns, I will replace my way out. I am an independent woman, and I can take care of myself. Please stop worrying about me. I just hope you won’t tell Derek that you saw me.” Aaron waved his hand helplessly.
“Okay.”
After standing in the cold wind for a while, he sobered and patted me on the shoulder.
“It’s cold in here. Let’s go inside.”
After entering the room, Aaron took off his coat and lay down on the couch.
“Okay. Forget about everything and go to sleep. You rest on the bed and I’ll sleep on the couch.”
I saw two comforters on the bed, but neither was thick enough to protect me from the cold. Fortunately, the room had a heater.

Aaron wouldn’t be cold even if he slept on the couch. So I went to bed without taking off my clothes, but I couldn’t get to sleep. Aaron was also wide awake; he was staring at the ceiling.
It was the first night after leaving Derek. My mind was in chaos. But it was only the beginning of a long and bitter journey, I still had a long way to go.
As painful and lonely as it was, I had to gather my strength for my son’s sake. I looked at the clock: it was four o’clock in the morning.
I heard the sound of slow breathing and looked at Aaron, he was sound asleep. Aaron’s wallet was on the table. I grabbed some money and my suitcase, then left the hotel.
Then, I called a cab to go to the train station. It was my first time in Lensy. The place was not good; it only brought back bad memories. I wanted to leave as soon as possible.
The station was strangely crowded and didn’t seem safe. I got out of the cab and hurried to the ticket office. The first train to Chinston was leaving at half past five.
“How far is Chinston from Sousen?”. I asked.
The ticket seller looked at me in surprise.
“It will take ten hours to get to Chinston by train”.
That was pretty far. Leaning against the window, I watched the beautiful sunrise. The train rolled across the fields and over the hills. The bleak snowy lands were replaced by colorful meadows filled with vibrant flowers.
Chinston was in the far south of the country. Spring was coming soon.
As soon as the train stopped in Chinston, I saw flowers everywhere. I ate at a pub in Chinston.
Just as I was about to pay the bill, I saw a note among Aaron’s pile of money.
“Eve, take good care of yourself. Call me if you have any problems. No matter how far away you are, I’ll come see you.”
Underneath the message he had written his phone number, email and other contact information. The note made my heart feel warm, but I felt guilty for turning Aaron down .
