Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 44
Chapter 44:.
I didn’t expect Derek to arrive so soon. When I left the community, he was already there.
The moment I got in the car, he looked at the cat in my arms and frowned.
I was worried that he didn’t like my dirty cat, so I was quick to say, “Please don’t hate Ugly yet! Actually, he’s very cute. It’s just that no one took care of Feo these past few days, so he’s gotten a little dirty. I really feel sorry for this cat.”
Derek’s knitted brows loosened as a smile appeared on his lips. “In that case, take him home and bathe him gently.”
On the way home, he asked, “Why did you go there?”
I told him I was just going to retrieve some things, but in the end I didn’t take anything with me other than the cat they had abandoned.
Noticing that I was in a bad mood, Derek put a hand on my head.
“Are you feeling sad?”
I felt a lump in my throat at his question. “Not really.”
After that brief interaction, he concentrated on driving and said nothing more.
Throughout the entire trip, he was fuming and was visibly irritated.
What’s the matter, are you upset or something?” I asked cautiously, wondering if he was concerned about the fact that he had interacted with Shane.
Derek took a puff on his cigarette and spoke in a tired voice.
“It’s nothing, I went to a social engagement this noon and I’m a little tired.”
“Was someone trying to set you up with a girl again?”
The moment he mentioned that he had gone to a social engagement, I remembered seeing him at the bar with those people who wanted to introduce him to their daughters. But the moment he said that, I wished I could bite my tongue.
I shouldn’t have asked that question. It made me sound like I was sticking my nose into too many things that were none of my business. I didn’t want him to think I was butting into his business, not to say I had no right to.
Derek gave me a sidelong glance and chuckled.

“No, if anyone tries to set me up with a girl, I’ll tell them I have a wife named Eveline, and show them our marriage certificate.”
His words were so touching that they made me feel butterflies in my stomach.
Later. I gave Feo a bath and gave him a new look. Afterwards, I made him a little house and poured some milk in a bowl.
During the time afterwards, Derek insisted on taking me to a mall and bought me a lot of shoes and clothes. I realized that the prices were exorbitant for an ordinary person, but he didn’t bat an eyelash at paying the bills,
As soon as we left the mall, I said uncomfortably, “These clothes are so expensive. I’d probably feel bad wearing it.”
Derek looked me in the eye, smiling brightly at me.
“You’re my wife. You deserve to wear all the expensive clothes you want.”
“That’s right, I have to improve my image and make sure I don’t embarrass you,” I muttered.
Suddenly, he lifted my chin, making me look him in the eye.
“Eve, your husband is not ashamed of you. He just wanted to boost your confidence.”
His beautiful smile made me fall in love as he suddenly gave me a peck on my cheek in public.
Although it was a simple kiss, it was enough to leave me in a panic attack. To be honest, I almost hyperventilated.
Especially since there were so many people watching us. I felt so embarrassed.
Derek seemed to be amused by my reaction, as the smile on his face widened and he pinched my cheek
“Why are you so cute, you’re blushing! Look at you, Eve!”
I covered my face to hide that I had gotten nervous and whispered, “I’m already twenty-six, Derek. You shouldn’t describe me as cute.”
Derek laughed again, “You’ll still be cute in my eyes even when you’re sixty-two.”
I stared at him, seemingly entranced as my thoughts drifted away.
When I was sixty-two, would he still be by my side? Would he still be my husband? Or would he be with someone else, and would I say these same sweet words to him?
