Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 455
Chapter 455:.
Based on the look on my face, Aaron could tell I was feeling lucky. He shook his head and let out a sigh. Then he straightened my clothes and buttoned them back up.
“Eveline, you’re a woman. Don’t compare your body to a man’s and don’t force yourself to put up with things you shouldn’t, okay?”
I was so grateful to Aaron, and at the same time, I felt sorry for him. I felt sorry because I couldn’t reciprocate his kindness. To take better care of me and the kids, Derek hired two babysitters.
One afternoon, the children had fallen asleep. Fearing I would die of boredom in the room, Derek took me downstairs. There was a couch under the eaves of the living room and he sat me on it. There was a pile of snow on the ground and the air was cold.
Derek brought me a hand warmer and a thick blanket, wrapping me up like a silkworm pupa.
“Are you cold?” he asked me.
I couldn’t help but laugh at the question.
“Look at me. I’m almost sweating.” Derek smiled, visibly relieved.
He headed out to the garden, grabbed a shovel and used it to shovel some snow. He then made a snowman out of the snow he had collected. After making the doll, he sat down next to me and grabbed my shoulder.
I noticed that his hands were red from the cold and I felt like grabbing them. However, he didn’t hold my hand.
Instead, he grabbed my arm and snuggled into my chest.
“My hands are freezing. Don’t touch them,” he told me.
Ever since I got hurt, he kept me company. He was home almost every day. Although he didn’t have much to do at the company during the vacations, he probably had a lot of social gatherings to attend, considering how important he was.
Occasionally, I would hear him answer phone calls about dinner parties. But even then, he turned them all down. The two nannies he hired were in their thirties. Both went to college and received formal training. They had a lot of experience.
Their division of labor was clear and well-proportioned. One took care of the children and the other did the housework. They took turns. And once the children were asleep, they would chat with me about how much Derek loved me.
They said they had taken care of many wealthy families, but they had never seen a gentleman who spoiled his wife so much.

Honestly, it was so sweet it warmed my heart. As I gazed out at the snowfall, I asked Derek what had happened on the cruise the other day.
“Did they catch Doug?”
At my mention of the man, Derek’s face grew serious.
“No, but they captured his cronies. The police went into the sea looking for him, but they couldn’t replace him. Doug was also injured and the sea water was freezing. He is most likely already dead.”
To be honest, I couldn’t understand what kind of grudge Doug had against Derek.
“Doug was targeting you. But I remember the police saying he was a wanted felon who had been on the run for a decade. Ten years ago, you were only twenty. It would have been impossible for him to develop a grudge against you at that point. So what kind of enmity do you have with him?”
As I finished my question, he suddenly kissed me, sealing my lips and stopping my doubts. We weren’t the only ones at home. The nannies were here too, but he didn’t seem to mind their presence.
He was still acting like he always did. He kissed me and hugged me whenever he wanted to. Derek put a little bed next to ours and insisted that the babies sleep in the same room as us.
Whenever the twins cried at midnight, he would wake up before I did and plant a kiss on my forehead before preparing the bottles of milk himself.
“The kids are hungry. Go back to sleep, honey. I’ll take care of them. ”
