Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 456
Chapter 456:.
Our life seemed to be back to the way it used to be. Back then, Derek was so good to me. He took care of me, protected me and I enjoyed his attention. The only difference was that we now had two children.
In the past, I was hesitant to say that he loved me, because I was too afraid to assume that there really was love between us. And although I loved him, I thought it was an unrequited love. But now, he expressed his love for me in both words and deeds.
Plus, the restored recording also showed that he really loved me. I guess I can now say that our children are the fruit of our love.
As time went on, my wound began to heal, and now it was scabbing over. Every night since we got back, Derek would cuddle me to sleep.
He would kiss me and make out with me, but did nothing more than that. I could feel how much he wanted to do it with me, and I could also feel him holding back his desires. I thought he was resisting because he loved me so much and didn’t want to hurt me.
One day in February, I put the two boys on the couch and played with them. Suddenly, someone rang the doorbell. The maid hurried to open the door. The person who visited me was an acquaintance and brought me bad news. It was Lavinia’s assistant.
After hearing from her about Lavinia’s situation, I left the children in the care of the nannies. I changed my clothes and went to the hospital with the maid. At the hospital gate there was a group of journalists waiting. It seemed that they had already heard the news. As soon as we got out of the car, they surrounded us.
“Madam, can you tell us anything about Mrs. Mayer?”
“They say she is in an unstable state. What happened to Mrs. Mayer?”
Lavinia’s assistant did not answer and hurried toward the hospital with a stern expression. Meanwhile, I followed closely behind her.
In the end, security guards came to stop the journalists from entering. There were many doctors and nurses in the VIP room, in addition to Lavinia’s students. But even with so many people, it was very quiet.
The smell of disinfectant hung in the air and everyone could smell it. Lavinia was lying on the bed, wearing a hospital gown and an oxygen mask. Her face was very pale and she looked haggard.
But her eyes were still open. As soon as she saw me, she gave me an awkward smile. The doctor closest to her was probably her family doctor. Realizing that she wanted to talk, he helped her take off her oxygen mask.

“Eveline.” Lavinia held out her hand to me.
I immediately walked over to her bed and took her hand.
“Mrs. Mayer, I’m here.” I had always known she had a heart problem, but I paid special attention to her health, so I never expected this to happen to her so soon.
Judging by Lavinia’s face and the charged atmosphere in the room, I feared she didn’t have long to live. Lavinia was my mentor and played a decisive role in my path to starting a company.
She not only taught me about the industry, but also how to trust myself. She guided me on the path of self-improvement and taught me to be a strong and independent woman.
She also told me to pay attention to my mental and physical health. Even though I was on the verge of death, Lavinia was still smiling. It was as if she was not about to die. It was as if she was about to free herself from the burdens of this world and go to a better world.
“Eveline, promise me one thing.”
“Mrs. Mayer, I promise to do it if I can,” I replied.
Lavinia smiled in relief.
“You can do it. I’m sure.”
She turned to her assistant, who was standing beside her. The assistant pulled a document from her purse and handed it to me.
