Chapter 51:.

The singer wanted to avoid him, but the drunk man grabbed her by the waist without hesitation.

“Great performance, beautiful lady! Sing a few more songs for me, okay? I’m rich.” He pulled out his wallet, from which he took out a lot of money. This act caused the audience to burst into laughter.

The singer must have been used to a situation like this, so she just calmly took the money from him and put it in her pocket.

“Sure, I’ll sing.” Fortunately, the drunk man did nothing else that was offensive. He merely walked off the stage and calmly returned to his seat. So, the singer continued to sing, while the people seated with the drunk man began to chatter loudly.

“Who is the original singer of this song?” the drunk asked.

The others at the same table didn’t seem to know the answer. After all, Thorn Birds had disbanded many years ago, so it wasn’t surprising that not many people knew them.

“I think it came from a band – what was it called? Oh, I remember now! The band was called Thorn Birds.”

“Oh, yes, Thorn Birds. I remember the lead singer of the band was named Sybil Nash.”

The drunken man slapped his hand on the table as if he had just had a moment of enlightenment.

“Sure! That’s her name. Man, that bitch was so fucking cheap!”

“Yeah, you’re right. I heard she died young. That’s too bad. Some said she was very beautiful.”

Those nasty men were gossiping like there was no one else around. They were also clearly drunk and making a lot of noise. Only one person at the whole table had been drinking quietly. The others got up from time to time to propose a toast to the silent man, as if to ingratiate themselves with him. It seemed that the silent man was the leader of that group of men.

Just as I became involuntarily interested in his subject, I heard a loud bang that silenced everyone.

I looked in the direction of the loud noise and saw blood dripping from the drunk man’s head. And the man next to him was holding half a broken bottle in his hand with a grim expression. This fearsome man was Derek.

By the time I regained my composure, the table where the commotion was taking place had been overturned. Felix, Eric and all their companions grabbed beer bottles and rushed at Derek’s enemies and joined the fray without hesitation.

Derek’s hand was wounded and blood was dripping steadily. But, even so, he was still holding his face steady.

His eyes gave off a terrifying calmness, and his mere presence was so intimidating that anyone could tell he would not go down so easily.

The other patrons began to scream and flee. Soon, the bar was nearly empty.

However, the singer on stage still stood with her guitar in her hand, staring blankly into the fray. It was as if she had been frightened.

The fight was so fierce that she couldn’t speak either.

Seeing that Derek’s hand was still bleeding, I stood up and almost cried. Compared to the fear I felt, I was more worried about him.

“Derek, stop! Please!”

However, my voice was drowned out in a sea of curses.

A beer bottle smashed into Felix’s shoulder, and soon, blood oozed through his plaid shirt. He turned and threw a punch at his opponent. “You ignorant piece of shit, I’m going to kill you!”

They began punching each other with whatever they could grab, hurting their foe. It seemed that no one had the upper hand.

I had no idea when Louise joined them. She was a black belt in Taekwondo, and it was wonderful to watch her when she fought. By the time she joined the fight, she managed to take down several men by herself.

The leader of the group of men stood back, looking at Louise curiously.

“A woman who is so good at fighting? That’s interesting,” he spat.

“Cut the crap.”

Louise swept her leg over the man, but he dodged her attack.

She began to launch numerous attacks at him, but the man merely dodged her throughout their battle.

I watched Louise’s fight and Derek’s fight alternately, my heart hanging in the back of my throat.

Right now, Derek was fighting fiercely against the drunken man. His face was bruised and blood was dripping from the corner of his mouth.

The drunk man looked even more miserable. His face was riddled with cuts and bruises, but he was still brandishing his fists.

He didn’t understand why the men fought. Whenever they lost their temper, they resorted to violence.

Derek was so focused on dealing with the drunk that he didn’t notice that another man had thrown a beer bottle at him from behind.

Without hesitation, I used my body to shield him.

As if I had predicted he would, Derek pushed me away. The next moment, the bottle hit him hard in the head, shards of glass and drops of beer splashed into my hair and face.
