Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 520
Chapter 520:.
Aaron put food on my plate and said quietly, “Come on, eat some. The food here is very special.”
The waiters served more food and wine to each table. The small jugs of wine they brought to our table were beautifully carved porcelain wine jugs. The waiter announced that this wine was made with a mysterious formula that had been passed down for decades.
I picked up one of the decanters and said with a smile, “In that case, it must be very good.”
I opened the decanter and poured myself a glass of wine. Then I took a sip.
The wine was very strong. It literally burned my throat. Despite this sweet pain, I forced myself to compliment the waiter on the quality of the wine.
“It’s a very good wine.” To be honest, I had no idea how to taste wine. At this point, any wine that could make me forget this pain that was tormenting my heart was an excellent wine.
The woman sitting next to Derek then extended her hand toward one of the decanters of wine. “Mr. Sullivan, let me fill your glass,” she said in a honeyed voice.
She took the decanter and poured wine for Derek. His gestures were very affected and his body was very close to Derek’s.
When she spoke, her mouth almost brushed his face. I couldn’t describe what I felt at that moment. Derek was normally inaccessible, and now this woman had almost total access to him. Now he seemed more like a playboy.
I wanted to pretend I didn’t care, but I couldn’t. I was deeply hurt. My heart pressed down and I felt a lump in my throat. But I couldn’t allow myself to cry. It would be too embarrassing.
Some old classmates came to toast me one after another. I took the opportunity to drink a lot. I needed to forget the pain that gripped my stomach. Some successful classmates took the opportunity to ask for my phone number.
Of course, I knew their intention. But since they were old classmates, I couldn’t refuse, so I gave them my phone number.
I drank so much that my face burned and I felt dizzy. Images of Derek and that woman talking and laughing intimately flooded my mind.
I sat there feeling completely miserable. Soon after, Megan had already changed and returned with Eric for a toast.
By this time, I was already a little drunk and tipsy. I reached for the jug of wine again. Seeing that, Aaron tried to stop me, but I didn’t listen. The pain I now felt in my heart was indescribable.

I saw no other way to ease my pain than to drink more and more. Megan had put on a red evening dress. She looked very nice. As she and Eric approached our table, Megan said she was going to propose a special toast to me, the matchmaker.
I staggered to my feet with a wine glass in my hand and said with a smile, “You are meant to be together.” Then I pointed to Eric and said with a straight face, “Be nice to Megan.”
Eric straightened up and promised, “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of her all my life.”
Suddenly, these words sounded familiar. Someone had already said them to me…
In the past, such solemn declarations seemed really romantic to me. Now, however, they seemed like a big joke. I suddenly burst out laughing.
“Do you really think you’re going to take care of her all your life? Life is so long, you know, you can’t know who will be by your side until the end of your life.”
As he said this, all the diners suddenly fell into a deep silence. Derek lowered his head to light a cigarette, but his face was impassive.
The woman next to him said something to him and he gave her a sweet smile. It wasn’t until I saw Eric and Megan’s embarrassed faces that I suddenly came to myself.
“Did I say something wrong? I’m sorry. I’ll drink three drinks as an apology. I wish them a happy life and may they grow old together.” I kept my word and drank three glasses of wine right away.
At that point, my vision was so blurry that I could no longer see the people in front of me. Megan knew why I was like this, so she didn’t get angry. She gently patted me on the shoulder and whispered in my ear, “Come on, Eveline, get a grip. Look at him. He’s having a good time with that beautiful woman. It only makes him happier to see you so sad and unhappy.”
Hearing what Megan said, I frowned and touched my face.
Did I let my sadness show? That wasn’t what I wanted. All I wanted was to look happy and carefree. Honestly, this situation hurt me deeply. However, no one needed to know, least of all Derek.
I finally managed to crack a smile and said to Megan, “Don’t worry. I’m very happy now. Today is your wedding day, after all.”
I knew I had definitely had too much to drink when I suddenly felt a violent pain in my stomach. The last thing I wanted was to humiliate myself in front of all those people. So I grabbed my purse and ran to the ladies’ room.
I felt much better after throwing up. After flushing the toilet, I went to wash my face. Suddenly, I heard a loud bang outside.
