Chapter 521:.

I hastily wiped my face and opened the door to the ladies room.

My eyes fell on Aaron, who was standing in front of the door. Then I saw Derek and his companion. The woman was touching Derek’s face with a concerned expression.

Then she turned to Aaron and said angrily, “Who the hell do you think you are? How dare you hit him, do you have any idea who he is?”

I furtively glanced at Derek and that’s when I noticed that he had a bruise at the corner of his lips. Aaron was looking at Derek defiantly. It looked like he was protecting me.

When they heard the door open, they all turned and looked at me.

It was the first time Derek had ever looked me in the face. When his gaze landed on me, I felt my heart ache. There was a strange gleam in his eyes, but I didn’t feel like analyzing his emotions at that moment.

I hurriedly looked away and staggered out. Aaron quickly grabbed my arm to keep me from falling.

“If you’re done eating, let me take you home,” he said.

“Come on,” I quickly replied.

Aaron and I walked away together. We could hear the woman cursing loudly behind us.

At that moment, Megan and Eric were busy with their guests. I didn’t see fit to disturb them, so Aaron and I snuck out. We climbed into Aaron’s car and soon the car was driving away from the mansion.

At that time of night, the suburban roads were very quiet. However, despite the quiet atmosphere, I could not calm down. Images of Derek and that woman talking and laughing loudly flashed through my mind over and over again.

Aaron put on some light, soothing music to help me relax. It did indeed relax me to some extent.

I leaned against the window and quietly said, “I want to listen to a song.”

“What song?” asked Aaron softly.

“Fly to My Heart.”

Aaron nodded. Then he picked up his phone and looked up the song. Soon the nostalgic song played.

“I’ll take you flying around the world; a world without worry, pain or despair…”.

I still remembered that day when Derek sang this song to me. The sun was shining behind him and its rays enveloped Derek, giving him a magical look. He was smiling tenderly at me then and his eyes were full of love and affection.

“Beautiful roads await us, so let’s burn the bridges and go wandering together to a world of eternal bliss. I don’t need money, nor expensive clothes because my heart is full of hope. With you by my side, baby, I’m the richest man in the world…”.

Every word of this song was filled with promises of a future of happiness and bliss. I didn’t realize that tears were flowing freely down my cheeks at that moment. That day, when Derek sang that song to me, I thought about our future. I thought then that we could have it all and that our happiness was perfect.

However, everything changed in the blink of an eye.

Aaron didn’t take me straight home. He took me to the beach.

After he parked the car, he turned to me and said softly, “I know you’re not well right now. Come on, come and get some fresh air by the sea.”

The sea breeze was chilly this time of year. However, it was great if you needed to clear your head. That was certainly what I needed.

The cold wind sobered me up quickly. The tears on my face had already dried. I was standing in front of the immense sea. As I gazed at all that water glistening in the moonlight, I seemed to replace an outlet for my emotions.

I had to get it off my chest, so I burst into tears. The sound of the waves lapping the shore at irregular intervals, as well as the icy sea wind, drowned out my cries and tears. The only witness to this intimate moment for me was Aaron.

I could trust him because he wouldn’t make fun of me being so vulnerable. So I allowed myself to cry my eyes out. I must have held back the tears for too long.

As soon as I started crying, I couldn’t stop. Ever since I left the firm that day, I had been holding back my tears.

Today, Derek seemed to deliberately provoke me. I couldn’t hold back the tears any longer. I cried so hard and for so long that I exhausted all my strength. Exhausted, I collapsed on the beach. I managed to sit up and pulled my knees to my chest. I just sat there, staring at the sea in silence.

Aaron quietly took off his coat and draped it over my shoulders. He stayed by my side without saying a word.

When I looked away, I saw someone swimming in the sea. Few people would have the courage to swim in that weather. The man was swimming towards us. He was swimming very fast. My attention was caught by this person swimming towards us. This face… my eyes popped open.

The man was still swimming towards us, constantly changing his position to go faster. Were my eyes deceiving me?

I didn’t take my eyes off the man and for a moment I even forgot my sadness. As I stared dazedly at the man, I saw that he was finally reaching the shore. I tried to stand up. However, I was very weak and my legs were weak.

Seeing that I was about to fall, Aaron was quick to grab me.

The man was now walking directly towards us. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I rubbed my face to make sure it wasn’t a dream and my back started to sweat.
