Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 67
Chapter 67:.
“Actually, Vivien, I think the dress doesn’t suit you too, why don’t you choose other dresses?” reasoned Shane.
She’d been living with this man for two years and judging by his face, she already knew what he must be thinking. It wasn’t that the dress didn’t suit Vivien, it was because she didn’t want to spend that much money.
“Why would you think that, do you even have good taste? Just because I can’t wear it now, doesn’t mean I can’t wear it in the future.”
In fact, it was hard for me to understand why Vivien didn’t feel ashamed to do such scenes in public. How was she able to be so thick?
“Honey, I think this dress is perfect for you. I’m sure it’s going to look amazing on you,” Derek commented.
His voice was loud enough for Shane, Vivien and the two salesgirls inside to hear.
They all turned their attention to us.
Truth be told, I preferred not to argue with those animals in public. Even though Vivien was a shameless bitch, I didn’t want to stoop to her level. I had to behave myself. But then, I found her glaring angrily at me.
It seemed that conflict was inevitable.
The clerk understood what Derek meant and gave her a smile.
“This gentleman has good taste. And you, Miss, have a great body. I’m sure the dress will look great on you. It’s going to give you an amazing look. Try it on if you want.” Seeing that the salesgirl was about to give me the dress, Vivien became so enraged that she snatched it away from me.
“No! I’m the one who picked this dress first.”
The salesgirl stood there, smiling awkwardly at me as if trying to apologize. Vivien turned her attention to Shane this time. “Shane, pay the bill. This is the dress I want.”
Since she wanted to buy it and found it first, the clerk had no choice but to sell it to her. “This dress costs thirty-eight thousand dollars. Swipe your card here, ma’am.” The price surprised both Shane and me.
I knew he would never buy a dress for a woman that cost him more than thirty thousand dollars.
“Shane, pay the bill. Hurry up.” Seeing that he didn’t move, Vivien nudged him toward the counter.

After hesitating for a while, Shane muttered, “Vivien, the dress doesn’t fit you.”
When Vivien heard him say that, her eyes widened with anger. “Are you saying my figure isn’t as good as Eveline’s?”
“I didn’t say that.” I could tell Shane was grumpy and agitated.
When I was with him, I had never wanted to buy new clothes. But he didn’t like that about me, since I wasn’t very good at dressing up. Now, he had found a woman who knew how to dress well, but she didn’t seem to take into account whether he could afford the things she demanded. They hadn’t had the wedding ceremony yet, but I could already see that Shane wouldn’t be able to put up with this woman squandering his money.
“Are you going to buy it or not? Because if not, I’m taking it off your hands,” Derek said.
Vivien kept looking at Shane. She didn’t come to her senses until Derek took the dress from her.
“Do you like it, my love?” asked Derek.
“I do like it, but…”
Before she could finish the sentence, she had already handed the dress to the salesgirl. “Pick it up for me, please. Thank you.”
I tugged on her sleeve and said, “I haven’t tried it on yet. I’m not sure it fits me.”
Derek looked at me with lustful eyes. “Who else knows your body better than me?”.
I blushed and whispered, “I think I’ve gained some weight lately.”
He smiled at me and replied, “If you can’t wear it yet, hang it over the dresser, don’t you like it?”.
I was too surprised to respond. Then, I watched her hand over her card and, after a moment, the sales clerk respectfully handed her card back to her along with the dress.
Seeing that I had taken away the dress she liked, Vivien was so angry that she stomped her foot. Also, Derek’s generosity to me made her disappointed in Shane. I realized that Shane would be punished once they got home.
The moment Derek and I left, Vivien was so embarrassed that she ran for the elevator. Shane chased after her and tried to pull her back, but to no avail. He had to get into the elevator with her.
If I was being honest, this thing didn’t make me happy. That dress was worth thirty-eight thousand dollars. It was almost as much as my annual salary.
“Aren’t you being too impulsive? There’s such a thing as impulse buying, and this is an example,” I whispered. Naturally, I couldn’t be mad at Derek.
He smiled, slipped his arm around my shoulders, leaned toward me and whispered, “Being impulsive is good for us sometimes. We are still young and need to be impulsive from time to time. As we get older, I worry that I won’t have the energy to be impulsive anymore.”
As he spoke, the warmth of his breath seeped into my ears, leaving me tingling. I soon understood what he meant, causing me to blush once again.
