Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 79
Chapter 79:.
Suddenly, the crowd gave a glance towards the door. As I looked in the same direction, I saw that today’s main characters were coming.
Shane was wearing a white suit today, which made him look like a decent man. The wedding dress Vivien had chosen covered his bulging belly surprisingly well.
I was standing near the entrance, so Vivien soon spotted me. The bright smile on her face disappeared, especially when she saw the dress I was wearing. I could tell she was irritated, because she swiveled her feet and almost fell over. The moment Shane caught her, she saw me too.
The frown on his face when he saw me made him look annoyed. It was as if he was worried that I was here to cause trouble.
How ridiculous, did he still think I would bother him and act out a pathetic display of groom stealing the bride? Once on stage, everyone else took their seats. Under the direction of the wedding host, they went through all the conventional ceremonies, such as the vows, the exchange of rings, and the sealing of a kiss.
Throughout the whole process, I merely watched them as a spectator, unaffected by all that was going on.
After the ceremony, the party began. The newlyweds changed out of their suits and toasted all the tables of guests. As they got closer and closer to me, I noticed that Shane seemed nervous, while I was very calm.
Soon, they approached our table and casually proposed a toast. They wanted to leave right away, but I stopped them.
To everyone’s amazement, I stood up, picked up the bottle of wine on the table and poured it into a glass. I smiled and said, “A toast to the newlyweds. May they live a happy life together.”
They must have thought I was causing a commotion. Shane was looking grim and Vivien was glaring at me. But they couldn’t afford to lose their temper in front of so many guests.
In the end, they filled their own glasses and accepted my toast.
The moment we clinked glasses, I laughed and remarked, “Shane, thanks for letting me go.”
While he had an embarrassed look on his face, I gulped down the entire glass of wine and felt great.

I had rehearsed this speech many times in my heart. It was the most appropriate thing to say on an occasion like today. The others at the table seemed to understand the underlying meaning behind my words, so they all smiled uncomfortably.
Since everyone was watching, Shane couldn’t afford to lose his composure. So, he downed his glass of wine and left in a hurry.
Later, during the banquet, I went to the bathroom.
As I was washing my hands in front of the mirror, the door opened. I saw in the mirror someone in a red dress and a pair of resentful eyes.
“Eveline, what do you think you’re doing here, are you here to ruin our wedding?”
As I continued to wash my hands, I replied, “Weren’t you the one who invited me?”
Just after I finished speaking, I felt a sharp pain coming from my scalp. Vivien had grabbed my hair and pressed my head against the sink. “You bitch! I didn’t expect you to stoop so low. You already have another husband, and you still seduce Shane; at my wedding, no less!”.
My scalp hurt so bad it felt like it was going to be ripped off. So, I grabbed his wrist and dug my nails in as hard as I could.
“Am I seducing him? Vivien, is it because you’ve ruined someone’s marriage that you’re paranoid about someone doing the same to you too?”
As if on the verge of insanity, Vivien grabbed my dress and tried to rip it off me.
“And why did you wear this dress, bitch, did you do it to piss me off?
I’m going to tear you apart.”
Vivien had really lost her mind. Not only did she try to rip off my dress, but she also ripped off my necklace.
Women never fight fair and square. And she was obviously experienced and fierce. I couldn’t do anything against her.
Soon, she exposed my bra. The back of my neck began to ache, possibly from the strangling of the necklace.
At that moment, the bathroom door kicked open. Vivien loosened her grip on my necklace because it was already broken.
Pearls fell, scattering across the floor. Some even rolled into the floor drain.
I felt my heart ache from the broken necklace, so I hurried to pick up the pearls before they could roll any further.
“Get off my wife!” roared Derek angrily. Soon after, Vivien came running out of the bathroom in her heels.
Tears rolled down my cheeks as I staggered to pick up all the pearls. “Eveline, stop!”
Derek helped me up, smoothed my dress and finger-combed my hair.
“Did he hurt you?” he asked.
I shook my head, clutching a handful of pearls as tears fell steadily down my cheeks.
“The pearl necklace was very beautiful, but now it’s destroyed. There are a few pearls that fell down the floor drain and disappeared.”
Derek wiped away my tears and coaxed me as if I were a child. “Don’t cry, my love. I’ll buy you some new ones. Your husband has more than enough money to buy you all the necklaces you want.”
The more she talked, the more I wanted to cry. Eyes brimming with tears, I cried out, “Why did he do this, why does he have to be so wild?”
Derek hugged me, stroking my back to comfort me. “It’s going to be all right, my love. Bad people like them won’t be able to stay arrogant for long.
Punishment will come for them soon.”
