Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 8
Chapter 8:
“Shane, did you really lose your baby?”
The woman’s excited voice was the same as the moans of pleasure I had heard from the microphone I planted.
It sounded familiar enough, but I couldn’t remember exactly where I’d heard it before.
“That’s right. You trust me now, don’t you?”
Shane’s tone was quite soft, completely different from when he spoke to me earlier. Once again, my tears fell from my eyes.
I thought about how pathetic and stupid I was. I had already found proof in the studio, but I opted to fool myself.
But my situation seemed quite ridiculous to me. Was this woman invisible? Or was she just blind?
Maybe she was blind. If she wasn’t, I would have seen Shane’s true colors before today.
“You are so annoying! I never doubted you for a second. I just couldn’t wait to be with you, okay? I don’t like sneaking around like this anymore.” The sweet way he spoke gave me goosebumps.
A while ago, Shane had done something unspeakable to me, but now, he was being so intimate with another woman.
The house filled with sounds of triumphant joy, as I stood outside, dragging my wounded body and heart to leave the place I used to call home. It was as if I was worse than a battered animal.
There were cars coming and going outside the community. Helplessly, I sat on the side of the road, feeling like the city had abandoned me. I plugged my phone into the portable charger and turned it on. Soon, two missed call logs popped up. Shane had called me. He must have called me when he found out I was missing.
In the past, getting a call from him was always a pleasant surprise. But now, just seeing his name could make my heart flutter.
I had to tell Louise the truth. After all, she really cared about me.
As I waited for her to pick up the phone, a feeling of sadness ran through my heart. When the call connected, I realized I was already sobbing.
“Lulu, I’ve lost everything; my baby, my home…I’m nothing but homeless now.”
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line. Then, I heard a quiet male voice.
“Where are you right now?”
I stopped crying to look at my phone, only to discover that I had called Derek by mistake.
“Where are you, are you still where I left you?” he asked again.
I was grateful to this man I’d met by chance. I didn’t want to bother him anymore, but now I felt helpless. In the end, I told him that I was indeed where he had left me. “Don’t move. I’ll be right there.” With that, he hung up the phone.
In less than five minutes, Derek’s car pulled up in front of me again. Slowly, he rolled down the window, revealing his handsome face.
“Get in the car,” he said to me.
Once again, I climbed into his car.
It must have been washed by now. It was so clean inside that I had no idea where to put my hands and feet.
“Please take me to the Eastern District.”
I used to live in an alley there. It was located in a relatively remote location, and the house was a bit run down. I hadn’t been back there since I got married.
When Shane married me, he said he wasn’t going to let me suffer a single day in my life. But yet, he was the one who ended up making me suffer. And the suffering he brought was devastating.
At the time, I believed him. I was such a fool
Along the way, Derek smoked silently, while I was assaulted by chaotic thoughts. I ducked my head, glancing down at my phone from time to time.
When I saw the microphone app on the screen, my hand stopped. Once again, my heart was filled with reluctance, sadness and hatred all over.
I clicked on the app, seemingly out of instinct. When I heard the erotic sounds, I realized I had forgotten to put my headphones on.
Derek turned his head to look at my phone. He chuckled knowingly and took a puff on his cigarette.
I wondered if he thought I had done it on purpose.
