Chapter 7:

Soon, Derek and I arrived at the community where he lived. When I got out of his car, I saw red spots on the spot where I had sat. It was very embarrassing, so I made an effort to apologize.

“Thank you for this. I’ll pay the car wash fee when I get the chance.”

Derek smiled nonchalantly at me, neither accepting nor rejecting my statement.

I thought he didn’t believe me, so I quickly added, “On second thought, maybe you should wait here for me for a while. I’ll go back inside and pick up a few things and come back. I won’t be long. I’ll give you the money when I get back.”

He pursed his lips, fiddling with the steering wheel with his fingers and seemingly thoughtful. After a while, he said in a serious voice, “I just decided to give you a ride. I never calculated how much it would cost. That said, I won’t take advantage of your misfortune. But I must remind you that you must go to a hospital.”

When I heard him say that, my eyes watered.

At that moment, I was certain that he was a good man, even though it was the first time I had met him. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Shane. He hurt not only my body, but also my heart.

I nodded to Derek, “Thank you.” Soon, he walked away.

When I opened the door to my house, I instantly saw my wedding photo. It broke my heart to see it.

In the photo, Shane was holding me around my waist and I was leaning against his chest. There was a smile on our faces and we were truly happy.

But now that I looked at it again, I realized how ironic it all was.

He was using care and tenderness to trick me, while I couldn’t see through him. He was far worse than a rabid dog.

Fearing that my demon of a husband would soon return, I didn’t dare stay long. I quickly took off my dirty clothes and wiped my body with a wet towel. The basin of water soon turned red.

As I wiped my body, I cried. The pain coming from my lower body was searing, but it could never compare to the pain I felt in my heart.

After changing clothes, I packed a few sets of clothes, grabbed my passport and a portable charger.

Just as I was about to leave, I heard a faint sound coming from the studio.

I stared at the studio door and thought there must be some secret I hadn’t found yet. Maybe it could be the reason Shane suddenly unmasked himself.

Step by step, I made my way to the study, opening the door with all the strength I could muster.

But when I opened it, the studio was charged with absolute darkness. It was empty, and the curtain was moved by a faint breeze.

I turned on the lights and entered. There I found a book, lying on the floor, right in front of the bookshelf.

The sound I heard a few seconds ago must have been from the book that had just fallen.

Hearing the sound of a car coming from downstairs, I walked over to the window and saw Shane’s car. He seemed to have arrived home. I didn’t delay any longer and quickly exited the house.

The elevator light was still on, indicating that he was on his way up. I didn’t want to see his face at that moment, so I quickly hid in the emergency exit.

And before long, the elevator dinged. I could hear Shane’s footsteps, and the sound of the door opening and closing shortly after.

As I exited through the emergency exit, I looked at the door with resentment. I could hear faint sounds coming from inside the house.

My heart was now beating faster. Because of my desire to replace out the truth, I moved closer and closer to the door.

When I pressed my ear against the door, I could hear the sounds from inside more clearly than before.

I was so surprised that I almost screamed.

It was a woman’s voice. How could there possibly be another woman in my own house?
