Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 6
Chapter 6:
At that moment, several mountain bikes sped up and stopped in front of us.
The man in the lead propped his bike up with one foot, straightened up and looked at me, noticing the coat over my shoulders.
“Damn it, Derek, how are you so good at flirting with girls? You can even replace women on a barren mountain in the middle of the night.” The man next to him kicked the front wheel of his bike.
“Are you blind?”
Hearing that, the man in the lead looked me up and down. He was surprised to see that there was blood on my legs.
“What’s wrong?” he asked in confusion.
As soon as he finished speaking, the light of a car appeared nearby.
Slowly, a black car approached. The driver deftly stopped on the shoulder, inches away from us.
Soon after, a man got out of the car. He looked to be in his mid-thirties and was wearing a nice three-piece suit.
The man next to me got up, got into the car and sat down in the driver’s seat. The protagonist finally realized what was going on.
“Derek, how could you do this? We agreed to go back together, but you ordered a car behind our backs! You’re an asshole.”
Derek rolled down the window and threw the cigarette butt out with a grin on his face.
“I’m tired, asshole. Timmy’s coming back to you.”
With that said, he looked up at me from his seat in the car. “Do you want to keep sitting out there and freezing?”
I feared he would suddenly leave, so I hurried to open the passenger seat door. Just before I got in, I hesitated.
His car was clean inside and out, but I was dirty.
After struggling to decide for a while, I finally got into the car, but I didn’t dare sit down or move a muscle. My feet were quite dirty. I was worried that they would leave muddy footprints if I moved too much.

But suddenly the car started. As a result, I leaned back and sat down.
With my face burning with embarrassment, I immediately looked at him.
“Sorry…I’ll pay the car wash fee,” I said.
He laughed at my comment.
“Just washing my car costs ten thousand dollars. In case any stubborn stains persist, I’ll have to pay more.”
At the mention of ‘stubborn stains,’ he looked at my legs.
Ten thousand dollars? That was absurd. Usually, washing a car costs fifty dollars at most. How come his wash rate was so high?
But his car was so much better off than Shane’s.
However, I didn’t have that kind of money now. All I had now was my phone.
“I don’t have any money with me right now. But if you trust me, I’ll save your phone number and send you the money later.”
I picked up my phone with the intention of saving his number, but realized it was turned off.
Fortunately, I managed to turn it on. When I saved his number, I asked him for his name. He told me it was Derek Sullivan.
As soon as I saved it, I received countless messages, all from Louise.
Guessing that my friend must be very distressed right now, I called her immediately. But the moment the call connected, my phone screen went black, indicating that this time I was completely out of power.
“Do you remember your friend’s number?” She unlocked her phone and handed it to me.
I nodded, picked up the phone and dialed Louise’s number.
Perhaps because it was an unfamiliar number, Louise answered the phone politely. “Hello, this is Louise Larson speaking.”
“Lulu, it’s me,” I mumbled.
Hearing that it was me, Louise blurted out, “Eve, where the hell are you, something’s happened, hasn’t it? When I got your call earlier, I felt something was wrong, so I went to your residence to look for you. But then I saw you weren’t home. Where the hell are you, Eve? I’ve been calling you all night, but you didn’t answer. Later, I noticed your phone was turned off. Do you have any idea how worried I was about you?”
When I heard how worried Louise was about me, tears rolled down my cheeks.
I wiped the tears away and said in a choked voice, “I’m fine, Louise. I’m in Tonyin right now.”
“Are you with your husband?” she asked.
“Yes,” I stammered.
“Is he crazy, doesn’t he know you’re pregnant, why did he still take you out?
You need to be more careful.” commented Louise.
“I’m fine.” Hearing her mention my pregnancy, I almost burst into tears again.
Immediately, I covered my mouth and ended the call.
Derek probably heard what Louise said on the phone, because he was looking at my belly and the blood on my legs with a frown.
The wisdom in his eyes made me think he had seen what I had experienced.
But he didn’t ask me anything.
I handed the phone back to him and looked away from him.
Silently, Derek lit another cigarette.
For a moment, there was only silence in the car.
