Chapter 94:.

When I was the only one left in the room, I finally opened my eyes and turned my head. I noticed that the glass of water on my bedside table was still steaming. My eyes felt wet, as if the steam was bringing tears to my eyes.

What did he want to talk about, the divorce? Maybe he would apologize and say he shouldn’t have taken advantage of me?

The next morning, I woke up early with a pounding headache.

Fortunately, I managed to get up.

As soon as I turned on the phone, I received a message from Seagull. “Eve, I hope every time you cry in the future it will be due to tears of joy,” he said. Truth be told, I wasn’t sure if I would ever be fortunate enough to cry tears of joy again.

The glass of water Derek poured me last night was still on the bedside table. I poured some warm water into the glass and drank it.

Afterwards, I left for work without eating any breakfast.

As soon as I got to the hospital, Derek called me. I put my phone on silent mode, tossing it aside and ignoring it.

While I was in my publication, I took a deep breath to cheer myself up.

Every time a woman was hurt because of a relationship, it served as motivation for her to become stronger and more independent. Even without a man, a woman must learn to live well.

Moments later, the emergency line rang and I quickly answered the call.

“Hello, this is the Wonder Hospital emergency line, what is your emergency?”

“I need help!” From the voice of the man on the other end of the line, I could sense that he was panicking.

As soon as I heard his plea for help, my heart skipped a beat. I rushed to try to calm him down. “Sir, please calm down, could you tell me what exactly is going on?”

“Several of my friends have been killed. I’m hiding right now. I’m very scared,” he replied.

“What?” I jumped to my feet as sweat broke out on my forehead. “Could you tell me where you are right now, how are your friends? We’ll send an ambulance and call the police for you right now.”

The man seemed to be shaking as he spoke. “I’m in WarFrame. I’m very scared. Save me.”

I was perplexed at his statement. And when he sensed my silence, he began to laugh. It was then that I realized I was talking to Felix.

Realizing that I had been tricked, I became so angry that I hurled curses at him.

“Go to hell! ” With that, I hung up the phone on him.

Brenna stared at me, surprised by my reaction.

When I noticed the way she was looking at me, I turned my head, only to realize that the head of the human resources department was standing behind me with an expression of circumstance.

“Eveline, your attitude is problematic for customer service. This is the emergency line. All calls made here are calls for help. Why are you telling people to go to hell? How do you think the patient’s family members would feel if they heard you right now? Your lousy service can and will affect the reputation of Wonder Hospital.”

“It’s not like that, sir! He was…”

“Enough. I don’t want to hear your explanation. Write a self-evaluation before you leave work. I want to know how dedicated you are to your job,” the director ordered before turning and leaving.

So I sat back in my chair, leaned against the back of it and let out a sigh.

“Eveline, it really is your fault. You have to own up to it.” Brenna used to be very kind and considerate to me, but even she blamed me for what happened.

With pleading eyes, I replied, “But, Brenna, that man was calling me a joke.”

Then, she burst out laughing. “It’s natural for people to call us a joke sometimes. I’ve been working here for many years and I’ve seen all kinds of people. Even if they are rude, annoying or just plain annoying, we have to keep our composure and be professional. It’s our job, Eveline. Remember that.”

I put my hand to my forehead and lowered it right after. “I understand. It really was my fault, huh? I shouldn’t have lost my cool. I’ll write a self-evaluation later.”

After a while, the phone rang again. I adjusted my mood and made sure I was prepared before answering the phone.

“Hello, it’s Wonder Hospital.”

“It’s me.”

A familiar voice echoed from the other end of the line. I was so startled that I hung up immediately.

When Brenna sat down next to me, she frowned and asked, “Eveline, what’s wrong, are you still not feeling well? You don’t look like you’re in any condition to work right now.”

Before I could answer him, the phone rang again. I didn’t even dare pick it up. Brenna looked at me, looking like she had no intention of answering it either. So, I had to answer the call.

“Eveline, wait!” shouted Derek anxiously, apparently afraid I would hang up on him again.

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath and said, “This is Wonder Hospital’s emergency phone, not a private number. Could you please stop holding our lines? What if there’s a real emergency right now?”

“Eveline, I just want to talk to you,” he replied.

“We have nothing else to talk about,” I replied.

Brenna probably understood the context of our conversation from my words. So, she smiled at me and went off to do something else.

“Eveline, listen to me. If you hang up on me again, I’m going to keep calling you until you agree to talk to me,” Derek commented. I hadn’t expected him to be so stubborn and thick-skinned.

“Come home and let’s talk about this, okay?” he pleaded.

Home, huh? I used to think his villa was my home.

I knew running away from this problem wasn’t a solution, so I finally agreed.
