Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 98
Chapter 98:
People were running into the lobby from all directions. I tried to run, but my feet were wobbly and my head started spinning. Only then did I remember that I hadn’t had anything to eat or drink since the previous evening.
Strangely, I had no feeling of hunger at all.
As I made my way to the lobby, my heart jumped into my throat. I stopped in my tracks when I saw Shane.
He was wearing his doctor’s coat as he walked down the stairs with the others. I noticed him looking at me. His gaze was fixed on me, but he didn’t stop walking. Just as I was about to turn around, he suddenly grabbed my arm.
“Why are you so pale?”
I turned and glared at him. “Dr. Hayes, congratulations! It seems the rules are different for powerful people. You’re back to work so soon. But it’s funny you should care about me.”
I shook off his hand and walked into the lobby.
People had lined up in two rows, leaving an aisle in between. Several nurses were standing at the front, bouquets of flowers in their arms, looking expectantly at the door. I wondered if they were waiting for someone important.
At that moment, Brenna nudged me toward the line.
“Brenna, what’s wrong? Wow… Look at the decorations. It looks great,” I asked.
“Our hospital has hired a young talent for a high salary. He has just returned from abroad after finishing his studies. I heard that many hospitals had also offered him a job with a competitive salary. However, our Wonder Hospital has managed to hire him after great effort. We have to hold a grand welcoming ceremony for him to express our gratitude.”
When I turned around, I saw Shane standing behind me. Evidently, he looked disinterested.
He was an arrogant and competitive man. Shane himself was a new employee at the hospital, but now he was standing with his colleagues to welcome another talent. Surely he would rub his ego in it.
I felt giddy as I waited with the others.
The women couldn’t contain their excitement and started gossiping. “I hear the new doctor is not only talented, but also handsome.”
“I don’t know what department he’ll be working in. But if I get the chance to work with a handsome man, I will never be late for work or leave early.”

“Don’t get your hopes up. An excellent man like him might already have a girlfriend or maybe be married – who knows?” Hearing that, the women let out a scream of horror.
At that moment, a woman slipped into the crowd and winked at them excitedly.
“I just heard that the handsome one is still single.”
The women regained their enthusiasm and milled around the door. They were behaving like a bunch of teenagers waiting for their crush.
I stood at the end of the line with no interest in being part of the drama.
Derek was also a talented and handsome man, but that didn’t matter anymore.
Moments later, there was a sudden commotion near the door, followed by thunderous applause. The women screamed and shouted for joy.
At that moment, I saw a slender figure advancing. The sunlight streaming over his head outlined a silhouette around him. He was accompanied by two figures in white robes.
“Wow, he’s so handsome!” I heard the women shouting as he walked forward.
My curiosity was piqued. I wanted to see the handsome man too. But my vision became blurry; everything seemed hazy. My feet turned to jelly.
I knew I would faint at any moment, but I struggled to hold on. I reminded myself not to cause trouble at such a critical moment.
I saw the blurred silhouette of the man approaching. My head grew heavier and my legs failed me. Just as I was about to fall, I tried to hold Brenna. But I lacked the strength to even move a finger.
Just as I was about to hit the ground, I saw Shane step forward. However, someone caught me faster than he did.
Before I could see the person’s face, I quickly lost consciousness.
When I woke up, I discovered I was in a private room at Wonder Hospital.
“You’re awake!” At the sound of the voice, I turned my head and saw Brenna smiling at me. “Thank God, you woke up. I don’t know if you’re lucky or unlucky, but you’re the first patient Doctor Hudson has seen after returning from overseas.”
“Doctor Hudson?”
“Yes. The handsome boy who just joined our hospital,” said the young nurse who came into the room.
I hadn’t seen the nurse before, and I didn’t remember offending her. But judging by her expression, I could tell she didn’t like me.
She exchanged an infusion bag for me and pulled out a pen. “You fainted at just the right moment. Dr. Hudson held you in his arms and carried you to the ward.
Of all the people in the hospital, you’re the first person to get his attention. I don’t think he’ll forget you, so it’s worth it, even though you’re hospitalized,” the nurse said as she scribbled something on the paper.
I was speechless. Maybe the nurse thought my fainting in the lobby in front of everyone was a blessing in disguise.
When the nurse left, Brenna gently touched my arm. “Rest well for a few more days. You, young lady, don’t know how to take care of yourself. Do you think you’re made of iron?”.
Brenna always treated me like her little sister, which made me feel warm.
Just then, I remembered that the nurse had mentioned the doctor’s name.
Wait! The new doctor’s last name was Hudson, and he had just returned from overseas. Could it be Aaron?
“The new doctor’s name is Aaron Hudson?” I asked.
“It’s me,” said a pleasant man’s voice.
