Be My Man, Mr. Jenkins By Flora Julius -
Chapter 2
Chapter 2
The old wretch, Josie, smirked when she saw those reactions on Adriane’s face. But before Josie could say anything, Adriane stood up suddenly. She bent down and seemed to be looking around for something.
That sudden act from Adriane was beyond Josie’s expectations. Puzzled, she frowned and asked, “What are you doing? The engagement ceremony is about to begin. Hurry up and get dressed! We have no time to waste.”
After catching the phrase “engagement ceremony” from Josie, Adriane quickened her movements of rummaging through the room.
The bruise on the leg did not matter to Adriane, neither did the maid who was picking on her. Her heart hammered as she searched, afraid she had guessed wrong.
Finally, she found her mobile phone in her pearl handbag. She looked through it carefully. Sure enough! It was the model she had been using, exactly like she remembered it.
With her back facing Josie, she quickly unlocked it with her fingerprint and looked at the date on the phone screen. The date July 3, 2012, was on it
Adriane gasped, and she could feel tears rolling in her eyes. She could hardly hide her excitement. The realization that she had been sent back seven years from the day she died struck her.
Then, Adriane looked around the room. The paintings on the walls. The crystal chandelier. The expensive sofa, tables and chairs, and the white gown on the hanger behind her. Everything looked luxurious.
Although the Stewart Family was well–to–do, they would not spend that much on decorating their mansion. And she recognized that gown with diamond shards on it. It was the masterpiece of the world’s top designer named Chuck.
The memory of her previous life was still fresh in her mind. It filled Adriane with pain and regret, but she was no longer gloomy because she was given a second chance now.
This time, Adriane would never let the Stewarts suck the last drop of blood from her. She would not let Alexander use her as a pawn. Determined to make her enemies pay for what they had done to her, Adriane swore that she would make them pay it back.
Of course, and the man who called Adriane “daughter” when she was dying. Adriane would try her best to replace him.
Only a few seconds had passed when those thoughts ran into her mind. She tapped her hand quickly on the screen, then turned her phone screen down on the table next to her. Then she turned around with a guilty look on her face and lowered her head, looking at the ground timidly.
Josie was scolding and insulting her, “What a pathetic girl from a regular family! Disrespectful and arrogant. Is that all they taught you? I’ve taught you many times, yet you can’t put on a simple gown like that. What a disgrace! How can a pathetic, stupid girl like you marry someone from Jenkins? Do you think you are Cinderella, trying to change your life, marrying a prince?”
Plans were getting into shape in Adriane’s mind as she listened to Josie’s nag. “Today is my engagement ceremony with Arthur Jenkins, the youngest son of the patriarch of Jenkins family. Alexander, that scumb’g ex–boyfriend, is the patriarch’s grandson. Alexander’s father is Arthur’s eldest brother, which makes Arthur Alexander’s youngest uncle. So, Alexander will have to call me aunt if I marry his youngest uncle.”
Arthur had an accident when he was on a business trip, and the accident almost killed him. His terrifying accident was the trending news that year. Although Arthur had been in a coma after the accident, he still managed to gain consciousness after half a year. However, his health condition was at stake, and the accident crippled his legs. The wheelchair was his legs since then.
Arthur was an eligible bachelor. He was also the heir of the Jenkins family that Albert Jenkins, the patriarch of the Jenkins family, had chosen. But that accident ruined everything Arthur owned, and rumors had it that the man would have a short life. Albert could not hand over the future of Jenkins to Arthur anymore, even though he was alive.
All those people who had once flattered him avoided him since then. Some even made fun of him and took the opportunity to backstab him.
The Stewarts were among those who flattered Arthur before all that happened. They had tried to offer their daughter’s hand to Arthur, but Arthur turned
them all down.
In the end, after the accident, Albert came on behalf of Arthur, asking the Stewarts to agree to his son’s proposal of marriage. The Stewarts did not want their only daughter, Juliette, to marry a disabled man, but they did not have the guts to refuse Albert’s offer. Instead of saying that they were afraid, the

Stewarts more likely agreed because of the luxurious betrothal gift that Albert promised to give them if their daughter married Arthur. So, they decided to let Adriane, their foster daughter, marry Arthur.
Adriane was only 18 years old. She knew that she should repay her foster parents‘ kindness for providing her a home and taking care of her for years. At first, she was in griet, but she did not refuse to get engaged to Arthur.
However, Adriane’s immaturity on her last life led her into the abyss of despair when she knew that the man she was about to get engaged to was cold, brutal, and merciless since the accident crippled his legs.
Of course, it was also because Alexander “happened” to meet her before the engagement day. That bast rd had a gentleman’s disguise. His gentleness and words of concern fluttered Adriane.
The Jenkins sent Josie to teach Adriane the etiquettes of noble families before the engagement ceremony. Josie had been kind and respectful to her in public. But when they were alone, she would insult and abuse Adriane.
Adriane could feel nothing but blind terror when she was treated in such a way by a maid. She began to wonder what her life would be like with Jenkins if even their maid could bully her.
Egged on by Alexander, Adriane disobeyed her foster parents‘ order and ran away on the day of her engagement ceremony with Arthur.
After that, not only did she suffer the wrath of her foster parents, but the Jenkins family also almost banished her from Berkton City. It was a bleak time
for her.
Now, Adriane had a second chance to choose her life. She would never choose that path again. This time, she would not run away from her engagement ceremony.
Not only because the Stewart family and Alexander were both awful choices, but also because she knew that Alexander’s weak and vulnerable youngest uncle, who was also her fiance, would be able to walk again in a few years. Arthur did not only recover from his illness. He was even able to get back and rebuild the business empire he once owned.
Juliette’s words still lingered in Adriane’s mind. She remembered that Juliette said Arthur was hunting for Alexander and planned to kill him. Adriane almost burst out into laughter when she thought of that.
In some ways, Adriane felt that she and Arthur were allies, not enemies.
“Who cares if he is brutal and cold? The Stewarts are worse than him. I’m having my second–chance life. There is nothing to fear.”
Her bright eyes sparkled with hope as she thought about the change she was going to make.
Adriane did not only want to attend the engagement ceremony. She wanted more! This time, Adriane would lift her head and walk into the hall. She would proudly get engaged to Arthur. Then, she would be Arthur’s fiance, and of course, Alexander would have to call her Aunt Adriane. That would be interesting!
After making up her mind, Adriance took the gown on the hanger and wanted to put it on.
Last birth, Adriane had no idea how to put on that gown. Josie took the opportunity to insult Adriane because of that, making Adriane feel embarrassed.
This time, Josie still did look at Adriane put on that gown with a malicious smirk on her face. She was waiting for Adriane to humiliate herself.
Adriane put on an act and pretended to be cautious not to spoil the gown. She asked timidly, “Aren’t you supposed to help me put this gown on?”
Josie lifted her eyebrows and mocked, “Don’t you have hands to put it on yourself?”
“But… I am going to marry Arthur. I am his fiance. Aren’t you afraid that he will know you treated me like this?”
Thinking of Arthur, who was as scary as a monster, Josie shuddered a little out of fear. However, she had a mission to accomplish. Josie had to make Adriane afraid of marrying Arthur. If she could make Adriane run away from the engagement ceremony, the people in Berkton City would think Arthur was pathetic.
“What can a man, who can’t even walk, do to me? Anyone can take advantage of him now. As for you, you better give up the idea of asking your future fiance to help you. Your nightmare will begin once you marry that useless man. You’ll know that soon. Hahaha!”
Chapter 2
Adriane was not simple–minded like her last birth anymore. She figured out all the traps Alexander set up for her. It was not a coincidence that Alexander happened to meet her before the engagement ceremony. Now that it made sense to Adriane why Josie had the guts to insult her like that.
Arthur might be crippled, but he was still the youngest son of the patriarch of the Jenkins family. Other maids would not dare to offend him like that. Adriane did not realize that the last birth was because she was stupid. That was why Alexander was able to trick Adriane easily.
After making Josie say insulting things like that, Adriane put on a sweet smile and said, “Well… I will not hesitate to marry him if that’s the case.”
