Chapter 213 Background Investigation Results
“You’re very capable and efficient; you have the ability and methods to solve problems. Caesar Plaza might reopen in a few months, and you can get what you want, but that might also be your ceiling.”
Benson’s tone carried a deeper meaning, as if he was trying to convey something Important to her.
Yvonne pressed her lips together, lost in thought. She stared at Benson, her mind filled with many reflections.
Benson’s words made her realize that she might have reached a bottleneck in her current environment.
“You should know that a person’s achievements often depend on their perspective.”
Benson continued, his voice holding a mix of insight and encouragement.
Yvonne was startled, her mind flashing back to the board meeting where she cut business lines and considered closing stores, remembering how the shareholders‘ attitudes toward her and Benson were entirely different.
Although Benson had no experience managing a fashion group, his influence and capabilities in the industry were irreplaceable.
“Alright, I’ll go,” Yvonne finally nodded, taking the invitation Benson handed her.
Her tone carried a hint of resolve and determination, showing that she had gained a deeper understanding of Benson’s words.
“Don’t go to the company today. Come home with me?”
Benson’s tone was filled with concern and a request, clearly hoping she would accompany him back home.
“I knew it, you never miss a chance,” Yvonne muttered softly, a trace of helplessness in her eyes.
Benson brought her back to the family’s old house, its walls steeped in history, as if telling endless stories of the past.
Sunlight filtered through the lush trees into the courtyard, adding a touch of warmth to the old building. Before lunch, they walked side by side into the house that held countless memories.
Victoria had just had surgery not long ago, and although the doctors said the procedure was minor, her mood had not noticeably improved,
When lunchtime arrived, Victoria showed considerable indifference toward Benson’s return.
She didn’t seem to appreciate his concern or the supplements he brought, choosing instead to only talk to Yvonne.
“Mom, I’m sorry…” Benson tried to break the silence, struggling to express his apologies to his mother. But Victoria coldly interrupted him, her tone full of distance and dissatisfaction.
“No need, really,” Victoria curtly rejected Benson’s condolences, her eyes showing that she didn’t want to discuss the matter further.
Yvonne sat at the corner of the dining table, silently observing the scene, feeling a complex mix of emotions and helplessness.
On the surface, she seemed calm, but she had her own troubles. However, at this moment, she could only focus on the estranged relationship between the mother and son.

After lunch, Victoria continued to act coldly, forcing Benson to keep trying to ease the tension.
“Mom, are you really mad at me? I told Dad to talk to you.'”
Benson’s voice carried a softness and helplessness, trying to use family ties to soften his mother’s attitude.
Victoria’s expression grew even sterner, her eyes treating him like a stranger.
Her patience with her son’s explanations had worn thin, which deeply saddened Benson.
At that moment, Yvonne’s phone suddenly rang. She answered a call and quickly left the room, giving Benson and Victoria some time alone.
With just the two of them left in the room, the tension was almost suffocating.
Victoria’s voice was low and heavy.
“What exactly are you busy with? Why did you go to Mexico? You left Yvonne here–if you care about her, how could you do that?”
Her words were filled with undisguised reproach and concern, which stung Benson deeply.
A flash of sorrow crossed Benson’s face. He knew the real reason for going to Mexico was tied to the person in his heart, but he lacked the courage to answer directly.
His heart was filled with complex emotions, torn between his mother’s anxiety and his own dissatisfaction with himself.
“I stayed longer than I intended because of Sol,” Benson’s voice was low, tinged with helplessness.
Victoria was clearly surprised by the mention of Sol. “Sol? Yvonne’s brother?”
“Yes, there were reports that he might still be alive, but it’s been so long, and his original identity has been erased, making it difficult to track him down.”
Benson’s tone revealed a mix of confusion and frustration.
He hadn’t told Yvonne about this yet, wanting to wait until he had definite news to give her a pleasant surprise.
When Yvonne returned after her call, she noticed that Victoria’s demeanor had softened, which brought Benson a sense of relief.
His efforts seemed to have had some effect.
After lunch, Yvonne was driven to the economic forum’s evening banquet.
The banquet was held at a scenic resort estate, a two–day event that attracted important figures from various fields.
Though she arrived alone, her heart was filled with both anxiety and anticipation for what was to come.
The estate’s hall was luxuriously decorated, with a high ceiling adorned with magnificent chandeliers.
The warm glow illuminated the entire room, contrasting sharply with the fading light outside as dusk approached.
Thick, soft carpets covered the floor, each step she took reminding her of the lavish surroundings.
A long dining table was set in the center of the hall, draped in golden tablecloths.
The table was laden with an array of exquisite dishes, and the fine tableware glistened with a faint golden
hue.
Waitstaff, dressed in crisp uniforms, wore professional smiles as they attentively served each quest
As Yvonne gracefully entered the ho she glanced around, her heart tinged with a familiar mix of nervousness and excitement
Though the setting was unfamiliar, every detail exuded unparalleled elegance and refinement, drawing admiration
The atmosphere of the banquet was unusually warm and elegant. The quests were dressed formally, the men in suits and the women in evening gowns, adorned with jewels
They stood or sat, chatting and laughing, discussing economic trends or other light topics, the atmosphere relaxed and joyful.
Yvonne chose a seat in a comer, observing the interactions around her.
She quietly savored the food on the table–from the delicate appetizers to the finely crafted main courses, and finally the exquisite desserts.
Each dish was not only a feast for the taste buds but also a visual delight.
Meanwhile, back at the office, Benson’s gaze swept over the documents on his desk, though he seemed somewhat distracted.
George had just been discharged from the hospital, and despite needing time to recover from his injuries, he remained concerned about the company’s dynamics and Benson’s plans.
“Boss. I’m sorry. If I hadn’t been injured, there might not have been any changes.
George’s tone held a hint of guilt, clearly feeling responsible for the situation’s outcome.
A complex expression crossed Benson’s face, his brows furrowing slightly.
“Earlier, I asked you to investigate Yvonne. Were the replaceings accurate?”
George looked at him with some confusion. “What’s wrong? I personally went to Parsons School of Design. The professors remembered Yvonne very well; they couldn’t have been mistaken. Is Olivia not the one you were looking for?”
“I feel like she’s not,” Benson said, a trace of doubt in his voice.
“Then who is it? Your wife?” George pressed on.
Benson rubbed his face, his heart full of confusion.
During his time in Mexico, his thoughts had been constantly in turmoil.
He couldn’t understand–if Yvonne was really the person he was looking for, why did he shift the matter onto Olivia?
Olivia’s earlier refusal to divorce was due to Steven having information about Sol.
When Yvonne, under the influence of medication, revealed herself completely, he felt for the first time that she was like “her.”
But the reality was that Yvonne hadn’t appeared in Haicheng
His heart was filled with bewilderment, even though he strongly felt that Yvonne had some connection to the person he was searching for.
But the facts didn’t match his expectations.
