Benson 237
Chapter 237 The Disguise of First Love
The night in Goodsprings had fully descended into darkness, with streetlights flickering faintly in the cool
air.
Yvonne dragged her weary steps into a hotel near the airport.
She only planned to stay for one night and would catch early flight back to Las Vegas the next morning.
Her mood was even heavier than the weather outside.
The receptionist’s smile seemed particularly harsh to her. Yvonne just nodded, took the room key, and hurried to the elevator.
In her hotel room, she carelessly tossed her luggage aside and walked straight to the window.
Through the gap in the curtains, she saw the city lights twinkling in the night, but her thoughts were far from the scene before her, replaying the events from earlier.
The room was quiet, occasionally interrupted by footsteps in the hallway, but her heart felt like it had sunk into an abyss, unable to escape.
Benson stood in a corner of the room, his gaze piercing through Yvonne like a sword. His eyes were deep and complex, as if trying to uncover every secret she held.
Yvonne glanced at him with a touch of weariness and confusion. “What’s wrong?”
Her voice was low and calm, attempting to hide the turmoil within her.
Benson’s brow furrowed slightly, clearly displeased with her question.
He smiled faintly, but there was a hint of sarcasm in it. “You ask… what’s wrong?” His voice was cold and full of meaning, difficult to grasp.
Yvonne stared at him quietly, her eyes calm.
She knew she couldn’t respond to Benson’s emotions. She didn’t say anything more, just slightly turned her head, avoiding his gaze.
The tension in the air thickened, and the distance between them seemed to stretch infinitely.
Benson’s expression grew increasingly complex, as if torn between anger and sarcasm.
His lips curled into a smirk, a mocking laugh escaping his throat.
“Nothing’s wrong, really, Olivia is my first love. I’ve searched for her for many years, and I’ve finally found her. So, I must stay with her!”
His tone was filled with coldness and determination, as if every bit of disdain and irritation he felt for Yvonne had turned into words.
He emphasized “stay with her” heavily, his voice carrying a clear threat. He shot Yvonne a cold glance before turning and slamming the door behind him.
The sound of the door echoed through the quiet room, a sharp contrast to the stillness that followed.
Yvonne sat on the sofa, hugging a pillow tightly, her body trembling slightly.
Her mind was a whirlwind of chaotic thoughts, and the scene before her eyes blurred.
Her gaze wandered around the room, the picture frames on the wall, the carpet on the floor–all reflections of her inner turmoil.
trying to calm herself, but the deep exhaustion and confusion weighed heavily on
her, making it hard to maintain control.
Olivia stood alone in the room for a while, feeling the chilly air outside.
She opened the window, leaning out to enjoy the fresh, though slightly cold, breeze.
The night in Goodsprings had a serene sweetness to it, and for a moment, Olivia felt a sense of relaxation.
Her life was undergoing a dramatic change, no longer surrounded by crowds whenever she stepped out. She faced everything alone, feeling an unprecedented sense of freedom and ease.
However, this brief peace was shattered by the sudden ring of the doorbell, like a stone thrown into a calm lake, stirring ripples.
Olivia’s heartbeat quickened involuntarily. She ran to the door, hoping it was Yvonne returning to bring some comfort. But when she opened the door, she froze, a flash of wariness in her eyes.
It wasn’t Yvonne at the door, but Benson. His presence made Olivia feel both surprised and uneasy.
“Do you… need something?” she asked, her voice tinged with hesitation and caution. She tried to hide the turmoil within, but her trembling voice betrayed her anxiety.
Benson stood at the door, his gaze as sharp as a blade, devoid of warmth. His eyes were cold and indifferent, completely different from the tenderness he showed Yvonne.
At this moment, his gaze was one of detached scrutiny, as if contemplating a hidden secret.
He didn’t answer immediately, simply staring at Olivia in silence, making the atmosphere even more tense.
Olivia’s heartbeat quickened. She realized that she was ill–prepared to deal with Benson’s demeanor. She forced herself to remain calm, despite the storm raging inside her.
She mustered a small smile, trying to ease the sudden tension. “Would you like to come in?” Her voice carried a hint of reluctance, and her smile was stiff.
Benson didn’t refuse, silently entering the room with slow, deliberate steps, each one heavy with purpose. His arrival added more pressure and uncertainty to the already tense atmosphere.
Olivia’s heart was filled with questions and unease. She didn’t know the reason for Benson’s sudden visit, but her intuition told her it wouldn’t be a simple one.
Her heart felt as if it were being squeezed, the anxiety growing stronger.
She couldn’t stop thinking about Yvonne’s words. Could Benson have already discovered something?
Standing by the door, she pondered his intentions, unsure of how to react. A shiver ran down her spine as her anxiety intensified.
Benson made his way to the sofa and sat down, crossing his legs and placing his hands on either side of the seat.
The atmosphere in the room grew oppressive and stifling. Olivia didn’t know what to do.
Closing the door seemed wrong, but leaving it open felt equally inappropriate, so she left it ajar.
She chose to sit as far away from Benson as possible, trying to appear calm, with an awkward smile on her face.
“Olivia, is it you I’ve been searching for?” Benson’s voice was low and composed, like the pronouncement

of a judgment.
Olivia forced a smile, her tone uncertain and nervous.
“Of course it’s me. If it weren’t, why would you have done so much for me?” She lowered her head, pretending to be shy, though a hint of undisguised smugness flickered in her eyes.
She remembered promising Yvonne that she would continue pretending to be Benson’s “first love.”
Benson responded with a faint smile, but it carried an ominous chill.
“I’ve forgotten many things over the years, I’m truly sorry. The money you’ve spent helping me, I’ll pay you back.”
His voice was calm and cold, hiding the complexity of his emotions.
“Saving you was my duty,” Olivia replied, her lips tightening as she tried to maintain her composure.
Inside, she felt a small sense of victory, believing Benson’s once deep affection had now become her personal triumph.
“You… didn’t you say that you liked Agatha the most?”
Olivia attempted to break the silence, but as soon as she spoke, Benson’s jaw tightened, and his expression darkened.
“Don’t say another word,” he commanded, his voice filled with irritation and authority.
Olivia quickly fell silent, not daring to speak again.
The two of them sat on the sofa in complete silence, not looking at each other.
Olivia tried to maintain a composed smile, attempting to seem less nervous.
The air in the room seemed to solidify, thick with tension and unease. The two sat in silence, with Olivia nervously keeping Benson company.
