Betrayed by My Pack – Wolfless Hybrids Escape -
Chapter 73 –
Saoirse's
POV
Robert's chest glistened with sweat, and my first thought was to get him home and into a shower. My next thought was that he needed to put his shirt back on now, as several females in the crowd were staring at him. It was obvious what they were thinking. I was trying to stay on my best behavior to ensure that Jaxon would allow me to build a permanent home here in Black Adder.
I heard a loud voice screeching out again, "How dare you try to steal my man, Saoirse?" I knew who was speaking before I turned around. I didn't want this jealous witch to ruin my reputation with her lies. I glanced up at Robert, who was just as upset by her words as I was.She thought he brought her items out to her because he liked her. He did it because she was more comfortable around him than other ranked wolves. I could see from the look on his face that he was just as frustrated as I was by what Adra had said.
"Adra, you're wrong. Saoirse didn't steal me away from you at all. We were never together. Saoirse is my mate, my Goddess-given mate. I have been chasing her since the moment I met her."Attention! I'm sorry that you feel hurt, but you can't slander us in front of our fellow pack members. I won't allow you to cause problems for Saoirse," Robert told her with an arm firmly around my waist, pulling me into his side. He was showing everyone here that I belonged to him. Thankfully, Jaxon suddenly told the crowd to disperse. Adra was spoiling for a fight and didn't care if she was telling the truth or not. The gossip mill wouldn't care, either. I am sure rumors about me were already flying around the pack.
Adra paled at his words, and her mouth fell open in surprise. "Robert, you can't be serious. You have always brought me my delivery. You have done it once a week for over three years. I made dinner for you every time you brought my items. I have made you dinner over a hundred times. I thought you knew I was interested in you. Why else would you eat with me if you didn't feel the same way?" she asked in a heartbroken tone.
"You were alone, Adra, and I felt bad for you. I was just trying to be nice to you. I knew you needed a friend. I never realized you felt that way about me. I would have traded out with someone else to deliver your groceries to you if I had known. I was waiting for my mate. I know that I have told you that before. We all know that you like to stay to yourself. None of us wanted to stress you by making you come and get your items. You originally refused to come and get your deliveries before, so why are you here now?" Robert asked.
I watched her get nervous before she got anxious. I knew what she had done as I saw her reaction. She was nervous because she had put a tracking spell on him. You are not supposed to use magic to stalk people, even when you like them, but some do. It showed that the rules that we were supposed to follow were blurred for her. She would do whatever it was she wanted to get the outcome she desired.
"I heard a commotion and came over to see what was happening. I have been getting out a little more since you brought her to visit," Adra replied. She wasn't going to admit what she had done. The fact that she ground out 'her' when she was talking about me was annoying. I haven't done anything to her. I even brought her a gift. Robert needs to never go back to her home. I bet she will try to spell it and keep him trapped inside it. This bitch is working my last nerve. I went to respond, but Cara cut me off.
"My mother has done nothing wrong. Robert sensed her as his mate after she got here. That is out of their hands and ours. They were destined to be together. I am glad that they found each other, as they are happy now. I think it would be best if you let this go. You need to spend more time with the pack and meet more people. Who knows, your mate might be here too," Cara told Adra gently. Cara was being very kind, but she was defending me. It made my heart explode with joy at hearing her leap to my defense. I may be her mother, but she hasn't even known me for two weeks. I thought I had lost her, as she never opened my letter. I was positive James had destroyed it.
"Adra, you have been safe here in Black Adder this whole time. I heard that you gave Saoirse a hard time and rejected the gifts she gave you. You are jealous about Robert, you know that you don't get to pick your mate. You didn't even give Saoirse time to explain to you why she had brought them to you before kicking her out. Jaxon and I have done a lot to keep you safe, but the last two members of the group who had been chasing you have gone rogue. Jana tried to kill one of my team members just this week. Saoirse went out of her way to get those stakes made for your protection. Just in case they tried to come here and attack you again," Alexei reprimanded Adra.
"I didn't know any of that had happened. Saoirse could have told me why she was there instead of wasting time on my doorstep. It is terrible that you all are judging me so harshly. I didn't know her; she had just reminded me of one of the worst times in my life. Of course, I would react badly to the alleged present she was bringing me. Neither of them had mentioned what happened. So, how the hell was I supposed to know? She just fucking disappeared like a coward, and Robbert only stayed for a little while after she left. I had just barely calmed back down when he ran off on me. I still needed him to comfort me. What happened to one of your men was terrible, but if you had just killed them when they were about to kill me, this wouldn't be happening now," Adra stated to our stunned group.
"You certainly have a way of twisting things around. I don't believe you. Plus, you never told Alexei that they should kill the whole group. Your being here seems a bit confrontational to me. I have to ask: you told us that Saoirse was wasting time in your doorway. I heard that you had refused to allow her to enter. So which is it, Adra? Don't worry, you don't have to answer me. I already knew what I heard was the truth. You were all over Robert that day, physically touching him and trying to cause an issue between them. You did that deliberately, probably because you knew who she was to him. That was wrong of you. No matter how angry you are over Robert wanting his mate, you didn't have to do that. Saoirse knew you were upset, so she left. You made it clear that she wasn't welcome there. What else was she to do but leave?" Brenna stepped up to defend me.
"You know nothing about what happened. I didn't do anything wrong. I was protecting my personal space. I don't think that you are aware that Saoirse is a powerful witch. Yet you are welcoming her here like she belongs. You don't even know her. I think that it is you who is not thinking clearly. Who the hell are you anyway? You are leaving the pack open to being attacked. How can you just trust her?" Adra snapped back.
"She is your Luna, so show some respect. We took you in here to protect you, too. We provided you with a safe place. We provided you with food and anything else you needed for over three years. Are you saying that we shouldn't have done that for you? Or do we need to stop helping others now that we helped you? Saoirse has done nothing at all wrong for us not to welcome her. I know that she is a powerful witch. She has not hidden her abilities from us. I have sat in on several trainings for her daughter. I am well aware of what they are capable of, and I accept them both. Saoirses mate is my Gamma, and her daughter is living here, too. You just need to accept the fact that she will be welcome here in Black Adder," Jaxon told her.
It was moving to hear everyone supporting me. I knew that Robert was the one who had told the rest of them what had happened at Adra's home. Robert was a good man, and he was trustworthy. They knew that what he had told them was the truth. They understood that I was his mate, and she was just angry. I was grateful to hear them defend me. I am usually not involved in drama, I don't have time for it, but Adra was pissed off. She wanted to attack me, but she knew that I was stronger than her. I don't want to get into it with her. She would only use that opportunity to make me look bad and garner sympathy.
"I hate you, Saoirse. You have gotten everyone against me, and I didn't do anything wrong. I fell in love with Robert. I wanted him, was that wrong of me? He was falling in love with me, too, when you showed up and screwed everything up. You are the one who is in the wrong, not me. I guess I should just give up my home so you can have that, too, since you are taking everything else away from me. Why can't I be happy too? I guess I will just go back to my house to pack up. I know when I am not wanted. I hope you are all happy with Saoirse. I will replace another place to live," Adra said. She was gone before anyone else could respond to her.
"I appreciate you all standing up for me, but Adra is really angry. I was not trying to drive her out of here. I was only trying to help her feel safer while she was here. Maybe someone should talk to her and calm her down," I suggested.
"No, she likes Robert the best, but I do not think that it would be a good idea for him to go there. We will give her a few days to calm down. Then we can try to speak to her. We have done a lot for her over the years. She should appreciate all we have done for her. I will have Mom and Dad go with me to speak to her. They made a deal to let her stay here. We will talk to her on Tuesday and calm her down," Jaxon advised. He is right. We should leave her alone for now. But I am positive she is not going to calm down. She hates me. I can feel it. She still wants Robert, and I can't allow that to happen. I need to make sure I keep my guard up because I know that Adra is not going to just give up.
