Lyosha stared out across the great hall as disgust marred his handsome features. Across the room many of the wolves meandered around and drank large amounts of ale. Some of the women that were there were catering to the wolves that needed a body to slake their lusts.

Lyosha glanced at the pretty girl who sat at the base of his chair, ready to slake his own needs should they arise. On the other side of his chair was his pet who stared dejectedly out across the great hall. Lyosha felt his lips curl in disdain at the creature. He should have killed him long ago but so much information had come from the beast, a black wolf with red mottled throughout his fur, an abomination.

Giving a soft chuff of disgust again, he turned away from the beast and looked out across the great hall once again. At one point in time there had been legions of wolves that stayed in the magnificence of this keep. So many that had followed him without question. Now, less than three hundred of his followers were around.

It had started with Aleric, his cousin. Lyosha had hoped to get rid of a possible opponent but instead he had lost a valuable ally. It rankled him for years and since that moment, Lyosha had been losing wolves left and right. He should have killed Rush and his welp along with all the other meddling wolves when he had first become Alpha.

The thought pissed him off that the beast in him howled for blood. The girl would do though so he grabbed her and as he did she gave a rather nice squeal at his rough treatment. Grinning, he positioned her head in between his legs and began to strip out of his pants. He was going to use that pretty mouth to suck him off and maybe afterwards he’d take her as the wolf. It was a taboo act that he had become rather fond of recently.

Lyosha was about to shove into the girls mouth when the bells started to ring. Never before had he heard those bells ring. Never before had Azgeta had enemies storm across her lands. He noticed many of the wolves glancing in his direction in confusion, they not knowing what to do with themselves.

Giving a disgruntled growl, he shoved the girl out of the way and ignored her cries as she fell down some of the steps, “Veryk!” he called to one of his betas, “Call in the rest of the wolves!” Turning to one of his brothers, Bastien, he shouted, “Open the weapons armory and replace out who was ringing the bells!”

He watched as several wolves followed his brother to gather weapons for themselves. Lyosha sneered though when he saw his other brother, Adrik, take the women that had been in the great hall and corral them into a safe room. Why was he forever worrying about the safety of the women? They were there to slake their needs as the wolves saw fit. He’d have a talk with Adrik afterwards about his conduct.

Many wolves began to come in, confusion and menace evident in the air, so many of these wolves were sick with blood fever and those that weren’t reacted to the unstable aggression of the sick.

When Rush and many of the other wolves he saw as dangerous came into the hall, Lysoha relaxed a little, for sure that they would have nothing to do with the bells ringing if they were coming into the halls as ordered. Better to have his enemies close then out there helping whoever was laying siege to their lands.

The last of the wolves that resided at the keep finally made it into the great hall and for a moment Lyosha feared that it was a mistake to gather so many in one place. It’d be far too easy to kill them all with cannons or fire. But he pushed the fear away, the bells were a warning that Azgeta had enemies marching, not that they were anywhere near the keep.

Lyosha moved back up to the throne and watched two of his other betas move towards him. When he looked at either wolf, they both shook their heads in the negative. They had both gone with Veryk to see if anyone could be found at the bells. Mau pushed his hair back in agitation, one hand on the pommel of his sword, “No one saw anything and there’s all sorts of tracks around the bell. Veryk can’t distinguish anyone, he says they are probably already in the great hall but he was going to see if he could replace anyone about that shouldn’t be.”

Lyosha snarled as he looked out across the great hall, this could possibly be a prank for all he knew. As Mau and the other beta moved back into the packed hall, Lysoha watched the other wolves who were talking and muttering. There were so many that it caused the small space to sound like it was holding more people than what there were.

Raising his hand, Lyosha waited for silence to descend across the great hall. When it did he asked the one simple question, “Who rang the bell?” All that answered him was silence and he growled low in frustration. These wolves should have been clambering to replace out who had rung the bell. Instead nobody was saying anything! After several moments where nobody came forward, Lyosha stood up and snarled, “Alright, so be it! If none of you are willing to answer then the consequences will fall upon your possessions!” he snarled, saliva dripping from his fangs as the thoughts of what he and his betas were about to do. There were many wolves who had delicious possessions, they were Lyosha’s by right anyhow, “I will take each and every one of your women and fuck her brains out, right in front of you and after I’ve used her so deliciously, I’ll splatter her insides across the walls!”

To some of the wolves it wasn’t much of a big deal. If the Alpha wanted the women, so be it. They’d replace others who were less whiny. But many muttered and growled, protective of those that they deemed were their mates. As the mutterings grew louder, Lyosha snarled.

“I rang the bell!” a voice shouted out, and the crowd moved away from the person as they came forward, their sword ringing across the floor as it was dragged. Lyosha narrowed his eyes on them, they had brilliant blood red hair with a cloak around their shoulders that seemed to match his own black one.

As they made their way out of the crowd, Lyosha heard his pet whine and whimper. Looking at the wolf beside him, he found the animal straining at his leash, his blue eyes bulging at the one who was walking towards them.

Turning back to the wolf in the crowd, Lyosha was surprised as his eyes collided with emerald green. He had known about his little sister for many years now. He had gotten many reports by not only his pet but other shifters who tried to integrate into his pack. Many slave merchants had also told him of a blood red wolf shifter in the south. Lyosha had, of course, assumed that she was dead for the past four years because no word had arose of her whereabouts.

As he looked at her, he felt a grin mar his face at her defiant look. It was the same look that Braytek had given him when he had demanded the sword. He watched Nytoa raise an eyebrow at his smirk, “Lyosha, I..” she started to say but he interrupted her.

“Little sister!” he said and felt glee as several wolves shifted closer in surprise at his declaration of familiar ties. He could also see many of his wolves lick their lips as they thought about the advantages of having a female black ice wolf. Others were looking between her and Lyosha in speculation, that gave Lyosha pause. Did they really think a female could rule the pack? That his dear little sister would even have a chance at ruling? “Welcome home! If it was indeed you who rang the bell, you didn’t need to be so dramatic, amorie,” he cooed as if speaking to a little child.

Nyota narrowed her eyes on her brother and felt her hackles raise in irritation, “Lyosha, I chal…” she tried to get out again but he simply grinned and talked over her once again.

“I mean you didn’t need to go to all the trouble. Now all of Azgeta will know of you instead of your dear brothers.” As he talked, Izra, Bastien, and Adrik all moved forward out of the crowd as they stared at Nyota.

She could see that two of her brothers, besides Lyosha, had blood fever, but one did not and she felt worry coming off of him in waves as his eyes darted between the Alpha and Nyota.

“Of course Tymothyn has been dying to see you,” Lyosha interjected when Nyota tried to say something. But her brother moved to the side to show the wolf that stood behind him, she could only stare at the animal. He was a gorgeous black wolf with red and tan highlights that ran through his fur. He had the usual ice blue eyes but that was the only distinguishing mark because he was rather smaller than any Black Ice wolf. In truth he was more along the size of a Thurian wolf.

She could only stare as Tymothyn tried hard to get out the collar, his eyes pleading for her to run away. “He was quite heartbroken when he tried to replace you many years ago. He almost didn’t return back to us alive because of the bears that had chased after him and left him wounded. I, of course, fixed that situation by giving the slave traders information on where to replace them. It’s not often they can sell bear, them being a dying race and slow breeders to begin with,” Lyosha said as he smirked at Nyota who was trying to keep a stoic attitude but he could see his words stab at her, it was all within the eyes.

Nyota felt her own heartbreak at what her twin had gone through. It had never been her intention to not think about him. Tymothyn had just never been an integral part of her life. When she was younger, she would sometimes have snippets of him, his feelings, or a phantom pain would course through her because of the connection they had. But then one year she hadn’t been able to feel anything and believed him to be dead.

“What did you do to him?” she rumbled as her eyes ran along his back and flank, noticing several gashes that were still open but not bleeding.

Lyosha shrugged carelessly, “He’s an abomination. One day he shifted and couldn’t turn back. Happens to many of the wolves. Usually I order them killed because they’re quite weak and shouldn’t have ever been born, but Tymothyn is my youngest brother. His usefulness hasn’t been extinguished yet. Eventually I will kill him but until then, he along with soon you, will be my dearest pets.”

Nyota bared her fangs at his proclamation of both her and Tym being nothing more than pets. She didn’t know why the curse had taken a turn this way. In the beginning, it had simply been the females of the pack not being able to shift. Nyota had assumed that as the years passed, it would have been the men not being able to shift. She never thought that the wolves would be able to shift and then be stuck as a wolf. But Nyota could also see it proper justice because of the pack always attacking Thurian wolves and slowly killing their brother race.

“I challenge Lyosha for Alpha of the Black Ice pack!” she yelled so her whole voice echoed across the keep. If she tired to walk away from the pack, they would die. The Thurian wolves would died and the ice spiders would repopulate all of Azgeta, magic would rule the world of snow and ice and possibly try to move south to the rest of the continent. None of this could happen, it would be over her dead body.

“Little sister,” Lyosha conjoled, “You need to kill or defeat everyone above you. With you being a rogue, that makes you the bottom of the pack. Do that, then you can challenge me,” he said with a smirk.

Nyota bared her fangs in a grin and held up the sword for everyone to see, “I have the sword of Allaidh and the pelt of the first female Alpha of the Black Ice pack. Per tradition, that gives me the advantage of personally jumping over everyone to being able to challenge you!”

Lyosha gripped the pommel of his sword, his face set in a mask of fury. He had hoped she wouldn’t understand anything about the sword and its intricacies to pack tradition. Narrowing his eyes, he looked behind Nyota to his wolves and gave a small nod. Several had already shifted and others were moving forward to try to get the sword. “Of course, sister. I accept your challenge,” he paused and smiled cruelly, “If you can defeat my wolves,” he sneered as he watched several shifted wolves jump at Nyota.
