Black Ice-Completed -
Chapter 49
He wasn’t pleased when he saw many wolves on the sidelines just standing and watching the outcome of the battle. “What are you waiting for?” he roared at them, “Attack her and bring me that sword!”
Many of the wolves moved forward as if they were about to join the fray but when they saw their comrades not moving, they stood still. Many looked at Lyosha and it wasn’t a look that made him feel good. Rush and the elders particularly made him uncomfortable. He’d just have to deal with them afterwards.
Lyosha watched as Nyota went under the pile of wolves that had converged on her and smiled. Soon nobody would ever be able to try to claim his position. He would die a ripe old age as Alpha. But just as he was about to turn back to his throne, the sword was instantly tossed out of the pile, as if someone threw it intentionally, and thud into one of the ceiling beams. Simultaneously, a deep howl echoed in across the great room which sent chills running up and down his spine. Never before had he heard such a powerful sound. It was the voice of a true Alpha.
His eyes widened as he watched a huge blood red wolf climb out of the pile of dead wolves and converge on those that were still living. Many more dying as she used her fangs and claws to deal damage against her opponents.
Lyosha had never before seen such slaughter before. It was true that he had killed many wolves, but never had he killed them in large packs such as now. Many tried to make their way to the door to escape the wrath of the she wolf but they were instantly slaughtered by those that were standing on the side lines.
Narrowing his eyes at Nyota as she turned around, he saw her eyes glowing green but as he watched, specks of blue ice were shining through, the telling sign that she was indeed Black Ice. He had wondered at her red pelt and her size, for she was so much bigger than any wolf he had seen.
Nyota advanced slowly and stared at her older brother, “Lyosha,” she said with the deep voice of an Alpha, “You are charged with the destruction of the Thurian wolves, our brother race, the murder of your fellow pack mates, disregarding tradition and killing the Alpha Braytek under traitorous deeds. You have two options. You may choose banishment or you will fight me and die!”
She heard many grumble. Nyota knew it was an irresponsible choice in offering banishment. She would always be watching her back. Just as well as she knew Lyosha would choose to fight her, thinking he’d be able to take her. To him the pack was his and nobody could have it.
Lyosha never verbally answered, instead he changed into his wolf quickly, far quicker than Nyota thought he could, and launched himself at her. Shifting her feet, Nyota steeled herself as Lyosha tried to push her back. Instead she pushed into his chest to try to off balance him.
The two Alphas bit and clawed into flesh, either working on trying to get a wound on the other. Nyota was the first to lose her footing as he had shoved her back and she had hit a body. Lyosha followed her down as he tried to bite into her neck but had to back away quickly as Nyota used her back paws to start scratching into his fragile underbelly.
As she rolled over to get up, Lyosha sprung onto her back, his teeth going for the back of her neck to sink into the flesh, trying to break her back the same way that he had broken Braytek’s. Nyota snarled as she rolled to her side, slamming her brother’s head into the ground. She had fought with bears, Thurian wolves, her mate, and had gone up against a Saber. Lyosha was never going to be able to take her down that way.
The fight went on like that for some time, Lyosha would try to replace some type of purchase to grasp on but Nyota would slam him to the ground or outright dodge his attacks. Many of the wolves could see Lyosha was bruised and bleeding from the random slashes that Nyota had gotten him. He was tiring and breathing hard while Nyota stood tall, barely huffing from exertion. She was, of course, bleeding from all the times Lyosha had tried to replace purchase but they were minor wounds.
Just looking at her pelt, many knew she had been in serious battles. Rush hadn’t even known the extent of her training and had wondered at her decision to fight Lyosha so soon. A lot of the elders had also grumbled at her, saying she was too inexperienced or the delicate situation she was in was too risky. This would certainly show them for doubting her.
Lyosha huffed as he stared at his little sister. He was extremely bloody and several wounds seeped masses of liquid. He could feel that his back leg was broken and couldn’t even put pressure on it. Looking around at the wolves, he felt fear. Nyota was too methodical, how could she fight so well when she had never been part of a pack?
Glancing over at his three brothers, he snarled, “Well, what are you waiting for? Kill her! As your older brother I demand it!” Lyosha grinned as he watched Izra and Bastien begin to charge towards Nyota, but growled as Adrik began to fight Izra. He’d have to deal with his traitorous brother afterwards. Instead, Lyosha turned back to Nyota and started to attack her with Bastien by his side.
The pack howled in outrage at the treachery but none moved forward to help. This was between family and no other wolf wanted to get into the mix of it. They didn’t want their heads on the chopping block should the winner be insane.
Nyota felt panic deep in her heart as she was attacked by two brother. When one attacked, the other would come from a different direction as she attacked the first. She now had so many open wounds and knew her strength would start to give soon. As she tried to attack Lyosha head on once again, she expected Bastien to try to rip into her, but was surprised when he didn’t.
Instead, she was able to get a deep bite into Lyosha and heard Bastien squealing in pain. She had seen Adrik start to fight Izra so she could only assume that he had dispatched the one brother and started to fight Bastien.
Lyosha snarled as his brother killed the other two. He should have killed Adrik when he was nothing more than a pup! He had been nothing but a pain in his rear ever since. In Lyosha’s fueled anger, he ripped away from Nyota and lunged at her throat, having full access at the rushed surprise attack, and felt his fangs go deep.
Nyota tried to snarl but instead a whine came up as she tried to struggle away from Lyosha. She began to have a hard time breathing as he kept up the firm grip on her throat. Black spots began to dance across her eyes and as if from a distance she heard a howl of rage.
Suddenly she could breath and Nyota gulped in as much air as possible. Turning towards Lyosha, she was surprised when she saw Tymothyn dodging around Lyosha, nipping at his legs and keeping him occupied while Nyota caught her breath.
As she took a step forward, Nytoa felt rage burn through her as Lyosha took a hold of her twin’s neck and tossed him against the wall where Tym crumpled and laid still.
Before Lyosha had any time to recover, Nyota rushed him and ripped open his throat. Blood began to spray across the steps and throne of the great hall. Nyota watched the anger and rage in his eyes slowly fade until finally the wolf lay dead at her feet.
Turning to her brother, she breathed a sigh of relief as Tym looked up at her and gave a wolf smile. Adrik came over and swiped a hand acrossed Nyota’s cheek and gave a soft smile, “Alpha,” he said, his voice low and growly like Braytek’s, “sister, welcome home,” he murmured and gestured to the rest of the great hall.
Nyota nodded in understanding. She would get to know her brothers later. Instead, she turned around and faced the great all. Many of the wolves stood watching her as she came forward and in the middle of the hall with blood dripping down her face and body, she howled long. Answering calls rang across the hall as the Black Ice wolves accepted her claim as Alpha.
The alpha of the Black Ice wolves was dead. The Alpha was now home.
