In her desperation, she pounded the man's back hard and yelled, "Who are you? Let me go, let me go!"

The man did not heed her words, letting her hit and shout as he continued walking briskly. Nina was too anxious and agitated to think clearly. All she wanted was to break free from his grasp.

She had only been in this place for a few days, unfamiliar with the environment and unsure if there were any thieves or criminals around. She feared getting hurt and her first instinct was to escape the danger. But no matter how hard she pounded, the man showed no intention of harming her. This was not the behavior of a criminal. Plus, even though she was yelling loudly, he did not seem afraid. Could it be... Just as she began to piece things together, she found herself gently placed back on the ground. When she saw his face clearly, Nina's expression changed completely. "You..."

But before the words could leave her lips, Nina realized that their relationship had deteriorated to this point, and there was no point in speaking further. She sealed her lips, refusing to face him, and quickly turned to walk away.

"Running away as soon as you see me? Feeling guilty?" the man said coldly.

Nina stopped in her tracks, pondering another question. In all the days she had been away, he had not come looking for her.

She had treated him so poorly, and he had his pride. She was sure he would not inquire about her, so it made sense for him to just sign the divorce papers and move on. If he wanted to replace her, he would have done so already.

Her way of leaving him, followed by his delayed visit, did it imply that he had a new obsession?

"I think I've made myself clear. The divorce papers are ready. Once you sign, you'll be free. Why did you come looking for me? We've reached this point, it's already ugly enough. Or did you already set a time to go register our divorce together?" Nina asked tentatively.

She stood with her back to him, unable to discern his expression or emotions, only hearing the powerful sound of his footsteps drawing closer with each step. She had no intention of fleeing. Even if she wanted to, if Nash wanted to catch her, he would replace her no matter how far she ran.

More importantly, she could not bear to leave her friends and family. If she truly wanted to avoid Nash forever, she would have to sacrifice so much. What she hoped for was Nash's understanding.

She also hoped he would cherish the ones he loved. He did not want to divorce her as he was simply accustomed to her presence and could not adapt to starting over so suddenly.

She could understand his reasons for not wanting a divorce, but she also hoped he could do right by everyone.

As she listened to the footsteps drawing nearer, Nina subconsciously swallowed, holding her breath until the familiar scent was right beside her.

She felt a hand grip her neck, swiftly pinning her against the wall. She was trapped, surrounded by his cold breath.

The danger and thrill making her momentarily forget to breathe, her gaze fixed on Nash's shadowed handsome face.

His icy gaze locked onto her, his cold lips opening to speak, "Divorce? Nina, you have some nerve!"

His grip tightened, as if he wanted to choke her.

Nina also felt his anger, the suffocation from his grip on her neck, and she struggled to speak, "Nash, what do you want? Will you be satisfied if you choke me to death?"

Nash's eyes were sharp as he spoke coldly, "Shouldn't I choke you to death? You've brought such a big shame upon me. You've humiliated me by being unfaithful!"

Just the thought of her being intimate with other men behind his back, her belly carrying another man's child, ignited fury within him. He wished he could kill her and her lover on the spot!

But Nina did not understand. She furrowed her brows and continued to defend herself, "Stop talking nonsense! When did I ever bring shame upon you? Our divorce was part of the original contract agreement. I'm sticking to the terms of the contract, but you...!"
