Chasing My Rejected Luna -

TEGAN'S
shift.

Before we knew it Lucy was ready and the body camera was intact. We had it made to where it looked like a button so that it appeared as part of her blouse. After it was in place we turned on the computer to ensure it was connected correctly before she left for her "Is anyone else nervous?" Fredrick asked, his eyes never leaving the computer screen.
She was currently driving so all we could see was the steering wheel and the sounds of music playing in the background. "Yeah," I said, agreeing with him.
Of course, I was nervous, this was a high-risk operation. Putting her in potential danger was terrifying. Although she acted as if it weren't a big deal at all, I knew it was. Lucy loved to walk on the line of what a normal person would consider dangerous. She said it made her soul happy.
"Don't worry, she can do this," Ezra said, kissing my head to try and keep my nerves in check.
Her car came to a stop before she exited the vehicle, heading in the back door of the club. All of us remained silent as we watched.
'Hey big man, having a good day?' She asked as she high-fived a bouncer.
'Better than that guy. He replied while nudging his head in the direction of a drunken fool who couldn't even walk straight.
'See you around.' Lucy hollered out with a laugh as she proceeded down the hall that was lined with numbers.
"Room two is where mom is," I said out loud looking at Fredrick.
Lucy stopped in her tracks at the door, examining it, when a cough sounded out behind her. She whipped around exposing a face I hadn't yet seen.
'Something interesting about a door that's not yours?' The hate in the woman's voice was evident.
'Just wondering how long it'll take me to be able to get in this room if not that one. Lucy said as she glanced at room 1.
'All of the girls dream about getting into one of those rooms, none seem to be able to though.' She responded snootily.
'I'm sure most don't. But I'm not most.' Lucy replied with a sassy undertone.
'Right. We shall see. In the meantime, Sovereign would like to see you in his office.' She said before turning to walk away.
My heart immediately pounded against my chest at what that meant. Was that normal? Lucy didn't seem to be phased as she turned to walk toward his door. Her hand rose up to knock before a voice spoke out, stopping her. 'Come in, dear.' His voice said. Sending shivers down my body, as it had done many times before.
She reached up, twisting the knob allowing the door to creek open.
'Good evening, boss, I assume we have more hits?' She asked as she entered.
'Indeed, but first I wanted to talk. He said with a hint of distaste in his tone.
'About?' Lucy asked as she took a seat across from Iblis himself.
'Your performance.
'I've been hoping to have this talk for some time now! Lucy replied with confidence.
'As you should. I see great potential in you.' Iblis replied happily, making my skin crawl.
'So, am I moving up?' Lucy asked joyfully.
'Not quite yet. I have a task for you to complete to be able to move forward.' Iblis said as he slid a folder to her.
Lucy took it in her hand without hesitation, opening the file greedily. The camera gave us full access to view the content.
"WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?" Fredrick asked in a scream.
A picture of me was displayed with why I should be executed. The reasoning is beyond any real reason at all. Her eyes shot up to his face, a smile spread over it with an evil glint in his eyes.
'My queen?' Lucy asked, confused.
'It has come to my attention that she was here a few days ago and now knows far more than she needs to. If my establishment is shut down it would be bad for all. She refused to work for me so now the only other option left is this! 'Elimination? But she has done nothing wrong?' Lucy's voice cracked as he looked her in the eyes.
'I had a feeling you wouldn't be able to do what needed to be done. Which is why you will never be my number 1 or 2. But that is okay. I had a backup plan just in case.'
As he finished his sentence a creek in the door could be heard. Lucy turned around, giving up a full view of who was walking in.
'Widow, meet my number 2. Malicious. Unfortunately number 1 is far too busy with her workload so Malicious here has agreed to take up the hit., without question! "Mom..." Fredrick's voice said out loud with a crack.
She grabbed the file from Lucy's hand as she scanned the content. Lucy's eyes I assumed never left hers because the camera was as still as could be.
'The girl from last week. I remember her. All sounds reasonable to me. When do I start?' My mother's soft yet harsh voice asked.
'Now.' Iblis said in a deep voice.
Lucy's eyes must've snapped over to him because the camera shifted so quickly that it almost gave me whiplash.
'Something wrong dear?' His tainted voice asked with a hint of amusement.
'How could you?' She asked.
"No Lucy, DON'T!" I screamed at the computer. "He'll kill her," I said next as tears began to rush down my face.
'How could I, what, exactly?' He asked next with a crooked smile.
'Give my hit away!' She demanded making his face falter. The pounding in my chest eased up.
'You said she didn't deserve it.
'Doesn't mean I wasn't game. She said next yanking the file from our mother's hands making a huge smile creep on Iblis's face.
'Perfect, how about this. Both of you will be assigned this hit. Whoever finishes the job will get room 1. He said, making it a competition.
'Deal.' The women both said in unison.
I wasn't sure what game Lucy was playing or if she realized she had almost fucked up. But either way, I knew one thing for sure. My best friend and my mother were both assigned to complete one task. Kill me. 'May the best one win. Iblis said as he stood up.
When both females walked out of the room, my mother looked at Lucy with anger in her eyes.
'I'm going to win, don't fool yourself. She said in a malicious voice. That must be why she had the nickname.
'We will see about that. Number 2 will always be number 2 when I am around.' Lucy said as she walked away in the direction of the door.
"She isn't actually going to try to kill you, right?" Helena asked with worry in her tone.
"I have no idea," I replied as Lucy walked out of the business.
She hadn't given my mom the note, or even told her anything we had discussed. Our plans are now completely in the wind.
I wasn't sure what was up Lucy's sleeve but apparently, I was the bait. The only question remaining was, did she actually want to kill me, or was it all a facade to trap my mom?
