Chasing My Rejected Luna -
Chapter 149
TEGAN'S
P.O.V
After the terms were agreed upon everyone disbursed, not wanting to be in the same room as one another anymore. I, however, stayed behind, to remain in the state of self-wallowing from my guilt and grief I guess. I sat in the armchair that he had sat in during our Christmas gathering as I thought back on the memory. It wasn't that long ago. He had such a big smile and was so happy. I wanted to remember his smile forever. Christmas was his favorite holiday. He once told me that it was his favorite because of the traditions his father gave him while growing up. I may not personally see the hype about Christmas like he did but what I did see was true happiness. Something I wanted my son to feel each and every day, not just on one specific day. I was lost in my cherished memories while stroking Elias's head in a comforting manner. He was far too young to understand the pain and loss that I felt. Which was the only good thing out of this. I'm glad I didn't have to explain to him why his father wasn't coming home, at least I didn't have to yet. "He really is a beautiful kid." A voice said, breaking me away from my thoughts.
I looked over to see Trystan standing there watching us.
"Thanks," I muttered as I cradled Elias closer to my chest.
"Listen, I'm sorry about everything. Had I known then what I know now, I wouldn't have done it."
"Done what exactly?"
"Any of it."
"What, torture Marci to no return or kidnap me to do the same thing?"
"Both reasons. I'm sorry for being such a prick. For only thinking of myself, and also for everything I have done in my lifetime."
He had this look in his eyes as if he was telling the truth, but at this point, he could be a mastermind manipulator. Who knows.
"I can't forgive you for everything you've ever done. I can only forgive you for what you've done to me. But what I don't understand is why you did it." I then said as I looked over at him.
"Because I was told to. Like I said, I did everything he asked of me without questioning it, until recently. I was trying to show him I was the prodigy he sought me to be. Clearly, I was wrong. I'm nothing like him. I knew that fact deep inside but I pushed it aside because if I wasn't his prodigy then what was I?"
"A special wolf," I replied without a second thought.
"Not exactly how I felt. I felt like if I wasn't what he wanted me to be, then I would once again become that image of a misplaced freak."
"You've met other Tribal Wolves, why would you think you were a freak?"
"Because I was different from even them. I was alone with what I was. I was isolated and different."
I only stared at him because at one point I felt the same way. Not because of my gifts, but because of me being deaf and different. I was a different person back then. I also felt like a freak, so I could relate to that feeling on a personal level. When I didn't respond he spoke again.
"Listen, I didn't just come in here to ask you for forgiveness."
"What else did you want then?"
"I'd like to see Marci."
"I don't think that's a good idea, Trystan. I mean you are after all the reason she is bat shit crazy."
"Please, Tegan. I need to apologize to her."
"I'm not sure she'll comprehend it." "Please," He begged shamelessly.
I sat there thinking about his words and then I remembered Gemma saying we all deserved at least one more chance. I wasn't sure if this was the right move. However, if I were in his shoes while feeling the weight of what I had done and the only way to move on was to apologize for my mistakes then I would want someone to allow me to try to make peace with my darkness and replace redemption too. I looked up at the clock and saw we still had an hour before we had to go back to that dreadful house and seal the gate for good.
"Okay, since you might die anyway, I might as well let you make peace with your demons. Literally." I said as I stood up.
"Damn, you sure have no faith in my abilities to take down Iblis, do you?" He asked as we walked to the infirmary.
"I don't have faith that any of us can take him down anymore. We just need to focus on closing that gate. That's all. Hopefully, in the process, he doesn't show up."
Once we approached the door I stopped in front of it before turning to address him again.
"Marci only remembers you. I don't know if she'll recognize you now, but all she talks about is the past you. So, just be ready." I said, although, I'm sure he already knew that.
I opened the door and stepped to the side to allow Trystan to enter. Once he was inside, I entered behind him.
He blankly stared at her as she rocked back and forth repeating the same thing over and over.
"I don't remember her being this far gone." He said as he approached the bed. "Marci, hey it's me. I'm here." He said before reaching his hand out for hers.
Once his skin touched her skin, her eyes shot up to look at him.
"NO... NO! NO! I TOLD YOU I DON'T KNOW!" She started to scream. "DON'T HURT HIM, I PROMISE I WILL COOPERATE!"
That was the most she had spoken other than her rambling since we used magic to take away her dark side.
"I...I'm not here to ask you anything." He stumbled over his words as he spoke.
"Please leave my baby out of it, he is just an innocent baby. He deserves far more than this life." She begged, making my heart clench in my chest.
"I won't touch him, I promise." He said, giving her the answers she desired.
"Protect him, don't let his real father replace him. He is special. A very special boy. Promise to always keep him hidden."
I could see the tears forming in his eyes but he closed them, willing them away instead of embracing them. He then put his hands on each of her cheeks as he stared deep into her eyes.
"I'm so sorry for all that I have done to you. I'll make it all go away, I promise." He whispered as he began to chant a spell I'd never heard before.
After a few minutes of him chanting, Marci closed her eyes. He continued to chant, however, the lights in the room flashed before he went silent. After some time Marci opened up her eyes looking at him once again.
"Trystan? Where are we? Is everything okay?" She asked while looking around the room. Her eyes landed on me and she paused, almost lost in her thoughts. "Tegan... Is that you?" Was the words that left her mouth next, completely taking me by surprise. "Y'all found each other just like she said y'all would." She then said as she looked between the two of us.
Who was she talking about was all I could think to myself but asked Trystan something instead. "What did you do?"
"I restored her memories that I took." He answered before standing up. "I really am sorry." He then said looking between us.
I was confused about how he did it. We had tried everything under the moon to restore her former self and were unsuccessful. But he comes in chanting some random spell and poof she is back as if it never happened. How was that possible?
"Tegan, we have to get going. The sun is setting. We have to close that gate before it's too late." He then said, breaking me out of my thoughts.
"I'll be right behind you," I replied to him before looking back at Marci. "We will be back, we have much to discuss." I then said as I followed Trystan out of the room.
Just how powerful was Trystan, really? Was he holding back on his true abilities?
