Chasing My Rejected Luna -
Chapter 151
TEGAN'S
P.O.V
My mind seemed to be on a continuous loop, my mate was alive. Standing right in front of me, not a single scratch from the fall or even from the fighting on his body. I was so happy he was safe. However, the happiness quickly faded when realization hit me. My mate was alive but in the hands of a dangerous being. Every second counted while dealing with Iblis. Have you ever been in a position where your morals were at battle with one another? A place in one's mind where you knew right from wrong, yet every part inside of you was screaming to choose selfishly? There was this rational part of my brain trying to talk me off the cliff. A part of me wanted to be selfless and make the correct decision while another part was begging me to be selfish for once. It truly reminded me of the decision-making process where people use the phrase: 'The devil and angel were on my shoulder, each pulling me in their direction'. To me, phrases like that are just used as an excuse to help the one making a hard decision feel better about having thought, even just a moment, about giving into temptation selfishly.
In my case, it wasn't just an excuse, the devil was offering me a trade. Asking me to give in to the deep dark desires of temptation. However, even though he was asking, it was only I who could choose to either be selfish or selfless. I like to think that I am semi- rational and can make good decisions but I am still only part human, with a human mind. Of course, I was also part wolf, and although Gemma and I do share a body we, however, don't share the same mind. We have separate instincts and rationalities who happen to also share most of the same feelings. Therefore, I can't say that I didn't consider being selfish and giving Iblis what he wanted solely for my benefit. But the more I considered it, the more I realized how wrong it was that it was even a consideration. Choosing one person over the other would make me just as bad of a person as Iblis himself. Plus, we were talking about two of the most important people in my life here. How would I betray one of them over the other when they both mean so much to me in every way? "I don't have her." I finally said, even if it were only half true.
"What a pity," Iblis replied with a flick of his tongue. "And here I thought we were making such progress."
"I don't see how we've made anything close to the definition of progress," I spoke out, honestly.
"I give you gift after gift and yet you lie to me."
"I'm not sure what you consider a gift to be."
"Well if your mom wasn't a good enough gift. Then surely your mate was?"
"My mom? You think giving me someone who couldn't even remember she had other children aside from her first was a gift?"
"Oh come on, how would it not be? I gave you your mommy back."
"You have a fucked up way of viewing what a gift is. As for my mate, not only have you sent someone to murder him but you are also now holding him hostage. So please explain how any of that is like giving a gift?"
"I like to call it a unique form of gift giving. But it appears as if you don't know the extent of what I meant." He said deeply yet so calmly.
When I didn't respond, he looked between us all before speaking again.
"Why weren't there absolutely any virgin Alpha females for Ezra to wed? You know, more qualified females for the role than you."
"Because girls can't keep their legs closed even for a title of empowerment,"
"Half true but then again, oh so wrong." He said with a laugh. "I made sure every single Alpha female aside from well, you, were indeed excluded from the picking for the king. I had your life mapped out before you were even two." "I don't understand."
"How could you? I was pulling strings long before you were of the age of understanding. Helena may have shielded your gifts but I knew you'd be special. I mean, your mother birthed possibly the first Tribal Wolf Alpha Male, why wouldn't she also have a girl just as powerful too?"
"So purely centered around a guess, you made arrangements for my life?"
"I've done less strategic things in my life, believe it or not." He said with a smile.
"I don't understand. Why?"
"Let's just say I've been busy for several years to achieve my goal."
"Which was pairing me and Ezra?"
"It was a shot in the dark, most of my hunches are. However, this one was futile because it wasn't at all what I needed."
"You're not actually answering any of my questions."
I was starting to get irritated with him beating around the bush. What was the purpose of this conversation? Was it a mere distraction?
"In due time answers will come."
"Appears the time is now. Because I am sealing that door with or without the answers." I said with a stern tone as I shot my hand up.
I started thinking about what Trystan said. Just tell your mind what to do, and do it. I focused on what I wanted, Helena. I used all my thoughts on achieving this goal.
"But the good part was just starting." He groaned out like a toddler as he snapped his finger.
Instantly undoing what magical connection I had formed to get Helena. Fuck, Trystan was right I was wasting my time going against him. He was the most powerful being and could achieve his goal without having to really think about it. There was no comparison, he was better without even thinking about it. 'He has mate, we fight to the death!' Gemma raged in my head.
But there was so much more at stake. We needed to close that door and rescue Ezra at the same time. However, I didn't have the manpower to back me up to do such a task. I couldn't close the door if he had Helena. Which meant that there was no way around an all-out battle. In order to close the gate, I must defeat the person standing in my way. He has proven time and time again that he is far more powerful, but his cockiness blinds him.
Fuck it, I got nothing else to lose was all I could think about as I charged forward, making everyone with me do the same thing.
"So you want to do this the hard way then huh? Even after I gave you the only chance at having a mate and a family?" Iblis's sleek voice asked as he twirled his fingers in the air waiting for me to get close enough to strike. "Fate never defers when one is meant to be with another," I said as I came at him full force.
The magic freely flowed from my hand as he dodged the attacks left and right. I was doing all I could while he stood in one spot, not a glimpse of fear on his face.
"Is that all the power the little wolf has?" He asked as he struck back.
His magic barreled right through mine, hitting me directly in the chest, and knocking me off my feet.
