TEGAN'S

P.O.V

It felt like it had been weeks since Ezra and I's bond broke. But it had only been days. Days of t*****e. Days of pain. Fredrick sent guards scavenging that forest, and nobody was able to recover his body. I didn't want to have a memorial without his body. But it appeared as if I would never get to see his face again. He deserved far more. He deserved to have a funeral, to allow all his friends and remaining family the chance to see his gorgeous face one last time and say their goodbyes before we laid him to rest. But that was another issue. His parents were both in the royal crypt. Somewhere he should also be. But instead, he was decaying somewhere where animals may have eaten his decomposition. While Uriah remained seated at my son's throne. "Mail is here, you won't believe what's in it!" Lucy hollered as she entered the ICU room.

I had been at Novalee's bedside waiting for her to wake up. The doctors said she was in a coma, possibly brain dead from the lack of oxygenated blood flow for so long. But I wasn't ready to pull the plug. Not yet. "What was in the mail?" I asked unamused.

"A royal letter. Or an announcement, I presume."

Her words yanked me out of my thoughts. A royal announcement? I reached up for her to hand over the letter. The bright golden seal of the Kingdom.

"I wanted to read it to you, but fine."

I ignored her comment as my eyes skimmed over the letter. This mother fucker... How dare he!

Loud beeping noises started going off just as a frail but gentle voice spoke. "What's it...say?"

My head jerked to the side to see Novalee's big doe eyes staring back at me. The tube that was once in her throat, now in her hand. Ouch, that had to fucking hurt. "You're awake." I was finally able to say.

"It'll take more than that to take me down." She said, trying to be funny.

"Actually, if it weren't for me, and E. You definitely would've kicked the bucket." Lucy responded while laughing.

But I wasn't laughing. How was she already slipping up?

"Gee, thanks." Novalee responded with a roll of her eyes. At least death didn't take her corky personality.

I quickly kicked Lucy, when Novalee wasn't watching, for mentioning Elias. It wasn't that I didn't trust her. We had just agreed that nobody else should know. Including Novalee. 'Shit... Sorry... Lucy mind linked, but the words were already out there. We just had to hope now that Novalee didn't catch it.

"I can't believe you're awake." I then said, ignoring Lucy's link. "I didn't think you'd come back."

"And miss whatever drama you're about to spill? As if. Go on, read the announcement outloud."

I looked back down at the letter, before letting out a deep sigh. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath in before opening my eyes once again to read the contents of the letter.

***

It is with great sorrow that this letter has to be made. I, Beta Uriah Jameson of The Blood moon pack, and placeholder of the throne hereby announce the tragic deaths of the following: Tegan Hendricks: Luna of the Blood Moon pack, Queen of the realm.

Elias Hendricks: The future King to the throne and Alpha heir of the Blood Moon Pack.

Irelyn Hendricks: The princess of the kingdom.

Lucy Declan: The Luna of The Silverline Pack.

Emily Declan: The future heir of The Silverline Pack.

And traveling alongside them were non-pack members: Novalee Harkness, and Zola Harkness.

We are sad to announce that they tragically passed away in a hit and run accident where the car they were in caught fire.

I, Uriah Jameson, will continue to rule the kingdom justly with the tragic loss of our future King. Both memorial for the fallen and a ceremony of the crowning will be held on the next full moon. Please, join us in the celebration of life while we set their souls free. But also as we celebrate I as the new, rightful King.

"What the fuck did I miss?" Novalee asked when I finished reading the announcement.

"Where do I begin?"

"How about from the moment I died?"

"How about before that?"

I quickly filled her in on everything that happened. Minus the small detail of Elias bringing her back from death.

"Oh, T. I'm so sorry..."

I could feel the sincerity coming from her tone. She meant it.

"I... I have no words. I wished I could change what she did to Ezra. I wished I could wipe away her existence. If I could've done that, I could've saved Ezra and Zola. OH MY GODDESS. ZOLA, WHERE IS SHE!? IS SHE OKAY?" "She is fine, her and the kids are back at the pack daycare."

"Daycare...Where exactly are we?" She then asked while looking around the room.

"My pack." Lucy responded swiftly.

"And Uriah has no clue?"

"Obviously." I said while waving the announcement in the air.

"And we can trust that nobody will leak the truth?"

"Uriah proved to us that we can't trust everybody's intentions. But at least for now, we are safe."

"What are we going to do?"

"We are going to take him down. Take back what is rightfully my sons." I said more confidently than I had felt in a long time.

I could see pity in their eyes. Pity for me, for what all has happened. But they shouldn't pity me. I was used to feeling undervalued and underestimated. But I was tired of being nice. I was tired of people coming in and ruining our lives. I vowed to protect my kingdom and that was what I would do. I would take back the throne and show everyone who was worthy to rule.

"I love bittersweet vengeance." Novalee said happily..

"I figured you would. I mean it runs in your veins."

She flinched at my words, but I didn't actually mean them in a bad way.

"I'm truly sorry for what she did to your family, Tegan."

"It is not on you, nor will it ever be. When we take back the kingdom I am going to need that vengeance to take down Sibil once and for all."

Her eyes lit with happiness. If anyone wanted her dead more than me, it would be her.

"How long have I been out?"

"Two days." Lucy responded when I didn't.

I couldn't because I lost track of time. If it were up to me to answer, I would've said weeks. But even I knew that was an exaggeration.

"And we are not any closer to figuring out the cure for the death curse?" She asked in a disappointed tone.

"Actually, that's not true."

"Wait it's not?" Lucy asked, surprised.

"I was looking at the photographs Fred took and I think the answer was in the legend all along. We just didn't have the full thing."

"Well, don't hold back. What do we do?"

"We have to seek out the one person who can't know of Elias's existence."

Novalee's face scrunched in confusion, while Lucy immediately understood. Her face mirrored what I expected mine to look like. Scared. "There has to be another way." She then said,

"There isn't. We have to. He is the only answer."

"But if he sees Elias."

"I know. But he is the only one who can save Zola. All we have to do is keep Elias away."

Novalee sat in silence waiting for me to reveal the answer to our long lasting question.

"The only person who can save Zola is Josiah."

"Josiah, as in the same Josiah who loathes my ancestor?"

"The very one."

"He won't help us."

"It's a gamble we will have to take. He is it, there is no other answer to the cure. It's his blood that we need."

I knew she wouldn't like the outcome. Hell, I didn't like the outcome. But it was that or Zola dies. There was no other option at this point. "What if he refuses?"

Her question charged the air with more tension. Because let's be honest. When he does refuse to help, because he will. What are we going to do?
