Chasing My Rejected Luna -
Chapter 200
TEGAN'S
PO.V
13 YEARS LATER
Tomorrow Elias would officially turn 16. Which meant that he would be getting his wolf. Most Alpha heirs didn't get to take over their position until the age of 25. However, under certain circumstances, such as the current Alpha of said pack passing before the heir turns 25, then they are permitted to take over when they receive their wolves at the age of 16.
I know being 16 was considered a child in most religions.
But as werewolves, it's believed that if you have your wolf then you can run a pack.
I'm sure Elias was absolutely terrified right about now.
Tomorrow night, he will be crowned the King. But before that, he had to get through his ceremonial crowning under the Red Moon. Which was why I chose to swoop by and check in to see how he was holding up before calling it a night.
I softly tapped on the big oak door of Elias's bedroom.
"Come in, Ma!"
I casually strolled in. He was seated at the desk reading his book.
"Hello, Luna."
I looked over to see Zola sitting on Elias's bed, smiling brightly at me. She sure had grown to be such a beautiful young girl. She had shoulder length blonde, wavy hair. Her facial features reminded me a lot of a younger version of Abbey Lee. "Good evening, Zola. I do believe Irelyn was looking for you."
"g**t, she's going to kill me." She muttered under her breath before her eyes shot up to look at me, fear swirling in them.
"Excuse me. I should've said shoot not s**t. I realize that now. Oh Goddess alive, I said it again. Well, thats my queue to leave. Goodnight Luna. Um, see you later, Elias."
"Night Zo. I'll see you tomorrow, right?"
"Wouldn't miss it for the world."
Her cheeks turned a rosey-red before she turned to dash out of the room. However, not before curtsying to me.
Something I wished she wouldn't do and have told her was unnecessary. But that didn't stop her.
"Y'all seem to be getting closer." I said to Elias once she was out of ear-shot.
"I guess so."
"She seems to fancy you."
"No, you have the wrong idea. We're just friends. That's all."
"That's all, huh?" 1 asked.
"Yeah, that's all, Mom. I have a girlfriend. Zo knows that we will only ever be friends." I didn't believe that for one second. I knew a crush when I saw one.
At times I wondered if they were going to be fated mates.
Something I prayed wouldn't happen. It wasn't that I didn't love Zola, because I loved that kid to death. But for Elias to be the King, it was impossible.
As much as I hate to admit, some traditions still haven't changed. The selection is not as picky anymore. The women are no longer judged by whether they were virgin's or not. You could also choose to be with your fated mate.
And she doesn't have to be Alpha born. However, the one thing I hadn't been able to overthrow with the Elders, was that the mate selected of the King could only be a wolf.
"I bet you could recite that by memory now, bub." I said as I watched him rereading the Alpha book he created for the millionth time.
"Last minute studies never hurt an Alpha."
"It never hurt a King either." I replied with a smile.
I couldn't believe how grown he was. His voice has matured so much this last year alone. One minute he was my toddler who couldn't even say 'fire truck' without sounding like he was cursing. And the next he was this giant adult-like kid. He was unbelievably tall. Shadowing even over me. He was only 16 and was already the size of grown men in our pack. I bet by the time he turns 25 he will be every bit of 6'4 maybe even 6'5. And the kid was drop dead gorgeous. His black hair made his unique eyes stand out. "So, are you scared for tomorrow?" I asked, taking a seat in the chair next to him.
"A little nervous, but never scared."
He sounded so confident. So adult-like. I always called him my old-soul. A small smile tugged at the corner of my lips as thought back to all the times he told me he was 'Mommy's little brave man'
"You're 16. You have every right to be scared, there is no shame in that."
"Dad wasn't scared and he took over the pack at my age."
"Who said Dad wasn't scared?"
"Dad was brave, and put others before himself."
My face dropped in understanding. He wanted his dad to be here to give him what most teenagers got from their fathers. Words of wisdom.
"I have something for you. I wanted to give it to you tomorrow. But I think you need it more now than you will tomorrow."
His eyes shot up to me, curiosity lingering in them.
"Here baby, this is from someone special. Always remember that you're going to be the best King." I said before handing over the videotape addressed to him.
I had found three tapes when we returned home, after taking back the throne. Ezra made them while he was stuck in the alternate universe. I'm not sure how they managed to make it to our side, but they did. Maybe the breakage of the seal allowed some items from both universes to collide.
One was addressed to me. One to Elias. And the last one for Irelyn, even though they never got to meet. I bought two more devices in order for the video tapes to be replayed. It was something the kids would always have as a remembrance of their father. Something dedicated just to them.
"I'm heading to bed, baby. Have a good night, alright?" I said while placing a soft kiss on his forehead.
I turned to leave as he hollered out for me.
"Hey, Mom?"
When my eyes met his, he spoke again.
"Love you."
Another smile spread across my face. He didn't say it much. So, when he did, it was nice to hear.
"I love you too, bub. Goodnight"
As I was closing the door he said goodnight back.
I took a deep breath before heading down the hall to check on the girls. Zola was staying over for the night, as was Emily.
Emily is Fredrick and Lucy's daughter. She was named after Lucy's late mom. The girls have always been close, seeing how they were raised together. Emily didn't live in the Kingdom so she wasn't around as much but she stayed over nearly every weekend. Zola, however, lived in the palace. Therefore, her and Irelyn were practically glued at the hip. The pack members often described them as the female versions of the three musketeers. But I liked to compare them to those kickass movie stars, Charlie's Angels. They had the spunky personalities that went well with their sassy attitudes. You know, the normal 14 year old girl stuff.
"Why are you even hanging with Elias? He is a lame." Irelyn's words came out snarky.
"I think that he's pretty cool."
"Eww, as if. Sounds like Zo has a crush on Elias." Emily said with a laugh.
"What? Me? No I don't."
I tapped on the open door, getting all three of their attention.
"Bedtime. Tomorrow is a big day for all of us."
"Mom... Seriously?"
"Seriously. Get some sleep, okay?"
"Fine."
"Love you kiddos." I said while blowing them all a kiss goodnight.
I made my way back to my room.
When I was finally behind the closed doors, my eyes shot over to the bedside table. I eyed the letter laying there.
The flowers I was receiving stopped coming and were exchanged with monthly letters instead.
At first, my heart begged me to believe that it was Ezra and he lived after all. But I knew better, the handwriting wasn't the same. There was never anything worrisome in the letters. They were just creepy.
I opened it up with an envelope opener before skimming it.
The contents saying:
'The moon shines brighter on the nights where you stare longer.
Creepy, right? But not necessarily worrisome.
I tossed it in the box along with the others that I kept and laid down.
The next day came and went. It went easy breezy, just as I knew it would. At least up until his shift. Tonight, Elias met his wolf, Aslan. Which reopened a fear I dreaded to face.
Aslan was the pure golden wolf from the legend, except he had the same mesmerizing eyes as Elias.
Fear quickly took control. Confirming that the legend Fredrick found was in fact real. Which meant one thing. A war with Josiah was destined to come. One I would never be prepared for, but I trained him to be.
