TEGAN'S P.O.V

I couldn't get the faces of all those men, women, and children out of my mind. It's not medieval times. Why on earth would he behead someone then spike their decomposing heads down his pathway? He never seemed like that kind of person when we were together. There must be a good reason for those sorts of actions. "That is disgusting." Tanner muttered my exact thoughts as we kept driving down the road.

"I am sure he had a good reason for what he did." I tried defending. But not really believing my words myself.

"Or just a power-hungry man wanting to show dominance to those inferior to him." Tanner replied, his eyes never leaving the road.

I bit my lip to not say anything. We passed by another face which in turn made me sick to my stomach. The child looked no more than 4 years old. Why would this be something worth displaying? What could a child do so badly that would warrant this? "He is a fucking monster. Luna Queen, please reconsider. We can turn around now." Tanner said. I closed my eyes considering this option. But something urged me to see it through. 'Something big is happening here. I can feel it.' Gemma stated.

I could feel it too, but I didn't want to believe it. Liam showed nothing but kindness, love, and worshiped the ground I walked on. Surely it was wrong.

'Always trust your gut feeling over your heart. The man can't be trusted.

'And if he is the root of our evil, shouldn't we play along and replace out?' I asked.

'You're only human, your heart makes the decisions and in this case your heart has made up its mind.' Gemma simply replied.

'That is not true.' I said, trying to defend myself.

'If we replace something evil here, will you kill him?' I thought about it for a moment but didn't respond.

"We are here, Luna Queen." Tanner stated as we pulled into the driveway of Liam's pack house. It was huge, a cabin-style property. It gave a homey vibe.

He was waiting on the front steps, a big smile on his face. A maid rushed over to gather my belongings as I exited the car.

"Thank you." I said, making her jump.

'Why are they afraid?' Gemma asked, concerned. I only simply smiled in response but felt off on the inside.

"Welcome to your new home my love!" Liam hollered out as he grabbed me in his arms and kissed my head. "How was the trip?"

"A bit queasy." Tanner stated before me.

"Ahh, I take it that you saw my warning signs?"

"More like torture signs." Tanner said as he unloaded some bags. Which made Liam bite his bottom lip.

"I like to think of them as trespassers, those who don't belong on land that is not their homes." Liam stated bluntly.

"Is that a threat, Alpha?" Tanner replied challengingly.

"No, you were invited as a guest. Wasn't he Liam?" I spoke, hoping not to stir any unnecessary issues.

"Of course. Mi casa es su casa." Liam said. However, his eyes gave me a feeling of otherwise.

I needed to get Tanner out of here as soon as possible.

'I don't trust him.' Gemma sounded off in my head.

'You've said that already.

'And I will say it again.'

"Show me my room?" I asked, taking Liam's arm in my own.

"This way, ma lady." He said, leading me into the house. Tanner followed closely behind.

"It's breathtaking." I said as we walked down the beautifully decorated halls.

"My first mate decorated. I just couldn't bear to change it. But if you want to change it, of course it will be yours to do so." He said, making the maid next to me look over at him with a scrunched face before darting her face the other way before he noticed. That was odd.

"Oh, I wouldn't dare, what she did was more than I could ever do. I don't have a creative bone in my body." I replied honestly.

"I just don't want you to get upset that she made her mark." He said as we got to a door.

"I could never feel that way. This was her home once."

"I have other things to attend to. The maid here can help with your needs. Feel free to change whatever you like."

"It is beautiful the way it is." I stated.

"If she were still here, she would adore you." Liam said as he kissed my head and departed.

"But she is." I heard the maid murmur, thinking it was too low for anyone to hear.

"I am Tegan, what is your name?" I asked, ignoring her comment, stretching my hand out. She cowered in response.

"She won't hurt you, girl. What's your name?" Tanner stated, confused.

"I am addressed as maid, Luna."

"But that is not your given name, right?"

Her eyes were darting all over, refusing to make contact with my own.

"Right?" I repeated.

"No, Luna."

"So, what name did your mother give you?" I asked.

"Tallie."

"Well, Tallie, I am Tegan. It is nice to meet you."

-I wished we could say the same. - I heard, making me confused.

"I'm sorry?"

"It is an honor to serve you, Luna." She said, her eyes never leaving the ground.

-She is a beauty, too nice of a girl to be here. She should never have come. Lilly made the same mistake, she was nice-natured like her. And now she has wilted away suffering. - I heard again. "Who is Lilly?" I asked Tallie, confused at her back-and-forth statements.

Her eyes looked up shocked.

"I....... I didn't say that, Luna." She said with fear in her eyes.

I looked over at Tanner, his face just as confused.

"She did not say the name Luna Queen."

"But someone said... Never mind. Thank you Tallie. Tanner and I can take it from here." I said, dismissing the timid girl. She bowed before taking her leave.

"Luna Queen, are you alright?"

"I am not sure, Tanner. This place, it feels, it feels... -"

"Creepy." Tanner said, finishing my sentence.

"I need to get you out of here." I said, looking back at him.

"I don't feel comfortable leaving you here."

"Tanner, I need you to do something very important for me. In order for you to do this, I must stay here, and you must go to the kingdom."

"What is it?"

"Not here, I will tell you when I escort you off the land. Understand?"

He shook his head in response as he walked toward the door.

-At least the girl isn't as dumb as the last. Lilly was pretty, but she wasn't very smart. - Another voice spoke. I whipped around to look for the voice, but nobody was there.

I am either losing my mind or somebody is here that only I can hear. But if that is true, then that means...

'We have another gift. One the Goddess didn't mention. Gemma said.

'What is it?'

'The gift of spirit. Gemma replied.

'Spirit?'

'I SEE DEAD PEOPLE.' She replied, laughing.
